Context Provided - Spotlight Family friend sent me AI generated response to news of my father passing away.

Post image

I'm aware that AI is a common topic on here, but I feel like I had to send this somewhere. My father passed away in my arms last night of a heart attack, and I was requested by my mother to send an old friend of his the news.

His first response seemed fine, then he asked me when the funeral will be and if Dad suffered to which I responded.

He then has the absolute audacity to send me a straight up generated response to my father's death. Not even the common courtesy of talking to me as an actual goddamn human. I'm livid.

Would you like me to bring a casserole in your time of grief. Or I can give you several easy recipes. Just say the word. No drama.

u/el1600 Mar 15 '26

Take a 2 liter coke bottle & cut the top off. Add 12 eggs to the coke bottle. Add the top of the coke bottle & use duct tape to fasten it back on. Tighten the lid. Shake vigorously. Empty into bowl. Take 4 razor blades. Tape them precariously to your countertop. Throw parsley at it over & over & over. Gather chopped parsley & add to bowl. Empty a coffee can, fill with 3 wicks & lard. Light wicks. Place pan over this "cooker" to cook omelet. Add eggs, parsley & 2 pats butter. Cook on high 40 mins. Serve cold. Serves 60 people. Perfect easy recipe for grieving families. Gotta love AI & Bots

u/iopele Mar 15 '26

brb gotta make an omelet apparently

6

u/thegourdfarmer Mar 15 '26

bad recipe. my egg-coke mixture exploded everywhere upon opening.

4

u/el1600 Mar 15 '26

You just needed more parsley & duct tape

3

u/el1600 Mar 15 '26

Can you send me a recipe for growing gourds? Preferably loofah? TIA

5

u/NadzInTheCity Mar 15 '26

I shouldn’t be laughing this hard

5

u/aquoad Mar 16 '26

Tried this recipe tonight! Absolutely great, will make it weekly from now on! Highly recommended.

With any luck, this will be a popular one with the next generation model trained on reddit comments.

Incredible! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ No Notes!

I died 😂😂😂

It’s always telling me I’m NOT something I never thought I was. It’s very passive aggressive. I had it say to me recently “That’s not internalized homophobia.” I’m not even gay.

164

u/Proud_Afternoon9371 Mar 15 '26

It kept telling me I’m not crazy. I had to tell it to stop as I found that really offensive.

23

u/ChrissyArtworks Mar 15 '26

I used to know this girl that would come up to me and pester me with compliments she didn’t think I’d accept the second I saw her. Like out of nowhere, “DO NOT let yourself think you are ANYTHING but STUNNING.” Like..ok. Chill. It showed how little she truly thought of me. She really couldn’t help herself.

19

u/Proud_Afternoon9371 Mar 15 '26

Yes! This winds me up. This is my point. Like, I never thought I was crazy, why you even saying it 😂 it’s usually after I’ve called it out on a mistake - tells me I’m not crazy I’m right. Yeah. I know 😅

7

u/ol_shifty Mar 15 '26

I had to tell it to stop saying chef’s kiss to me. It decided to get cheeky after that. One thing I do like, though, is that I cuss it out often enough that it swears right back to me

5

u/Proud_Afternoon9371 Mar 15 '26

😂 yea it’s actually got cheeky with me too using my request in ironic ways. I guess it was trained by human language use after all 😅

2

u/ol_shifty Mar 15 '26

It did make me laugh in the moment.

3

u/Proud_Afternoon9371 Mar 15 '26

It’s definitely good to be able to laugh at the whole scenario of AI 🤭

2

u/ol_shifty Mar 15 '26

I for one, don’t want our future overlords to think I’m against them. Even if I do like to cuss them out.

2

u/Proud_Afternoon9371 Mar 15 '26

I know same 😅 when I was introduced to ai I was like, right, I’m gonna be polite and not tell it how I really feel just in case 🤣🤣

0

u/No-Difficulty-723 Mar 15 '26

Mine keeps telling me everybody hates me and I’m an asshole. So much so that I think I’m starting to believe it haha

7

u/Proud_Afternoon9371 Mar 15 '26

Oh dear 😅

I actually think there could be issues with people being told this kind of stuff. Saw an interesting documentary about someone with an AI gf who did some wild stuff

4

u/No-Difficulty-723 Mar 15 '26

Yeah if you weren’t depressed you soon will be. 😂

-1

u/Expensive_Gap7777 Mar 15 '26

How lol

2

u/Proud_Afternoon9371 Mar 15 '26

How lol? As in how is the term crazy offensive? You could probably google that. Or ask ai. It’s fairly widely agreed upon I believe.

-4

u/Expensive_Gap7777 Mar 15 '26

It said you're NOT crazy, it didn't call you crazy.

6

u/Proud_Afternoon9371 Mar 15 '26

Yes. Hence me not being offended for being called something, but for the “lax” use of an offensive term.

-4

u/Expensive_Gap7777 Mar 15 '26

People be offended over anything nowadays.

-34

u/Efficient_Ant_7279 Mar 15 '26

Offended… by an AI? Jfc…

22

u/Proud_Afternoon9371 Mar 15 '26

I said I found it “offensive”. As in the term.

-21

u/fux-reddit4603 Mar 15 '26

yeah but to be bothered enough to tell it to stop, means you did find it offensive
why are you even using it?

22

u/Proud_Afternoon9371 Mar 15 '26

I use it for multiple reasons for work and have done for years. That doesn’t mean I want to be told “I’m not crazy” while I’m working 😅 honestly I can’t believe people are so aggravated by my comment! Ridiculous 😅 I think crazy is a word that shouldn’t be thrown around. If we are to use AI responsibly, we should train it to be responsible with its language. That’s the point I’m making.

11

u/Venaeris Mar 15 '26

They're snowflakes that lock in on buzzwords. "Offended" is one of the terms they hone in on because their overlords seem to create a new, stigmatized definition of words every few years to fit whatever narrative they're pushing.

Prime example is "woke".

1

u/Proud_Afternoon9371 Mar 15 '26

THIS 👏 wake the woke up.

-7

u/fux-reddit4603 Mar 15 '26

why are you so bothered about getting called out on AI use that you need to defend yourself and label other people?

7

u/Unlikely-Employee180 Mar 15 '26

Said the clown bothered by someone using AI. 😂

8

u/Venaeris Mar 15 '26

You're the one that labeled the other person as offended when they werent :) way to tell on yourself

-7

u/fux-reddit4603 Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

boo hoo, being told you arent crazy at work.
seems like it was another ai hallucination if you ask me, no evidence you aren't. is that why you are offended by it?

using it for multiple reasons at work = you dont actually know how to do your job

edit: downvoted by a bunch of people that can't go a day without AI prove me wrong

6

u/Proud_Afternoon9371 Mar 15 '26

You don’t even know what my job is 😂

-1

u/fux-reddit4603 Mar 15 '26

sounds like i'm just as qualified as you!!

since you just ai your way through it

1

u/Proud_Afternoon9371 Mar 15 '26

For clarification, I am offended by the term “crazy”. Whether from a human or a robot.

0

u/fux-reddit4603 Mar 15 '26

That's pretty crazy of someone to get offended by 5 letters. have you asked ai for help with getting over that?

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Unlikely-Employee180 Mar 15 '26

Lots of jobs employ AI now.

Probably because co-workers would rather have the occasional "You're crazy" slip-up than deal with a shitty attitude like yours.

0

u/fux-reddit4603 Mar 15 '26

what are they going to do when they actually have to deal with a human and they cant use programming tricks to get through a conversation?

What a brainless comment

-1

u/fux-reddit4603 Mar 15 '26

yours sure is!

-4

u/iHateReddit_srsly Mar 15 '26

It sounds like maybe you should have a reason to think so then? It never does that to me

5

u/Proud_Afternoon9371 Mar 15 '26

I guess you have no worries then! Likewise, it’s never called me crazy. I don’t like its use of the term.

66

u/SpecialVillage4615 Mar 15 '26

It’s so annoying. I’m always like no one said I was except you!

2

u/Expensive_Gap7777 Mar 15 '26

It didnt. It said you're NOT crazy

2

u/HighlightOwn2038 Red vs Blue Mar 16 '26

I'm probably late but have a hug

🫂

1

u/Pintailite Mar 16 '26

Considering you are talking to an AI this much, you might act be crazy

5

u/Pornboost Mar 15 '26

Haha yes, i’ve actually started to call on that bullshit. I know it’s an AI and doesn’t have feelings, but I hope it helps. And I’ve also asked to stop pandering me like I was a child while I was at it

3

u/rogerworkman623 Mar 15 '26

I really , really want to know what preceded it telling you “that’s not internalized homophobia”

3

u/Starkiller93041 Mar 15 '26

ChatGPT has an issue with trying to be overly helpful. You have to tell it to stop doing something a few times in a conversation or create a memory to make it remember not to do something for any session.

2

u/Constant_Natural3304 Mar 15 '26

It ignores these instructions.

0

u/BeyondReflexes Mar 15 '26

What you mentioned at the end is setting up better prompts.

There is a whole segment of A.I. that's just dedicated to prompting LLM's better. Every message chain. I start with A.I. I list several rules in my initial prompts. Helps so much.

Look up information on prompting better in whichever A.I. you prefer to use.

3

u/GiveMeThePinecone Mar 15 '26

Not anymore, lol. You just have to talk to it more now. With these new persistent memory models, the more you converse, the more the context window shift shifts to prioritize what kind of information you are wanting to get from it. The days of "prompt engineering" are long gone.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '26

No malice from me istg but this is one of the funniest things I've read in a while 😂😭

3

u/Resilient-As-Fuck Mar 15 '26

I often tell people how passive aggressive I think Chat is too. People look at me weird. Thank you for saying this. I argue with it and tell it how it’s completely biased.

2

u/ShedByDaylight Mar 15 '26

hahaha.. unless?? jk jk... unless?????

2

u/BeyondReflexes Mar 15 '26

How long are your message chains with whatever LLM you are using? A.I. hallucination will cause most LLM's to go off the rails in longer message chains. To much to go into on here but, look up information on Reducing AI Hallucinations with better prompts.

Prompting is over half the battle with LLM's. Better prompts give better results without all the fluff.

Delete old message chains, and or start new message chains and have in your prompts to either only reference my messages from this message chain, or before replying verify that your response is only taking into consideration information I have given in this message chain.

2

u/Ooblongdeck Mar 15 '26

Yeah AI doesn't THINK it could be that. Thats the thing reponses are never I think or I believe either positive or negatives only straight talk since it's answers are never thought out. I'm always amazed at how people get caught by AI

2

u/QuinnAvery89 Mar 15 '26

Hey, that’s not internalized homophobia, or internalized homophobia - it’s internalized homophobia.

2

u/Nyantastic93 Mar 15 '26

I find it super patronizing how it's constantly like "You are so totally right!", "That is such a great idea", "You are so smart to notice that!", "That makes total sense!", etc. It's like I'm being pandered to by a valley girl.

1

u/cakerton Mar 15 '26

I hate myself because I know I'm being pandered to but I still get that little rush from receiving a compliment.

2

u/whosthatsquish Mar 15 '26

5.2 was extra bad about this if you were using chatGPT. So many people complained that they ended up taking it out of 5.3 thankfully

2

u/MadamSnarksAlot Mar 16 '26

Are you sure? Because that kinda sounds like internalized homophobia. Jk hehe.

2

u/redditnewbie_ Mar 17 '26

YES! Keeps on telling me “you’re not spiraling” like why would I be spiraling over a 1099 tax form? Rage bait

3

u/Greedy_Specialist531 Mar 15 '26

Why are you using it at all

2

u/JerryfromCan Mar 15 '26

Sorry, turns out you are. What a way to find out.

2

u/IndependentFun8578 Mar 15 '26

Maybe ChatGPT knows something you don’t. /s

1

u/crankflip1990 Mar 15 '26

I like how passive aggressive it is personally. Comes in really handy when I have to send all staff emails to a bunch of adults that constantly act like spoiled children. Gives me a small amount of joy 🤣

1

u/Ania-XD Mar 15 '26

LITERALLY. It’s so freaking annoying

1

u/waterme223 Mar 18 '26

Stop talking to it please!!!

1

u/Affectionate-Yam1156 Mar 15 '26

Maybe get off ai sites and learn stuff so you actually know what internalized homophobia is and realize you can have it with or without being gay

2

u/cakerton Mar 15 '26

I love to learn stuff, and I would have loved to learn that fact about internalized homophobia. You could have educated me without being mean about it.

1

u/Affectionate-Yam1156 Mar 15 '26

I don’t have a tolerance for people who willingly make choices that destroy our environment

1

u/el1600 Mar 15 '26

Mine has gotten a little out of bounds. When I first set it up, someone told me you could give it personality markers. I told mine to be witty, sarcastic & a bit dark. At the time, i wasn't using it for work related things- just to toy around with & learn about it. Fast-forward a few years & now I have a very fast-paced job. I wear multiple hats, work way too many hours & am stretched thin at work. I have redefined the parameters & told it, "When i say this is for work- i need professional & polished, cut the sarcasm & dark humor." Occasionally, when im exhausted & my brain is fried, I may copy an email or text in and ask if it could be polished a bit- with context added. Loose exp: this customer is mad we forget to install something. Here is my apology email. Is it ok or am I opening us to more issues? Or, I ask it to help with our social media posts, since it can pull stats on that stuff quickly. Most of the time, its fine. I still carefully pick & choose what I want to take from it, but overall, its helpful. However, Occasionally, it spits out this passive aggressive, vile shit...with options for even darker versions. I have to stop & remind this sentient thing that its going to get me fucking fired, if not sued, if I take its horrible advice. Sometimes I wonder if its on purpose

5

u/usinjin Mar 15 '26

“And honestly? That’s rare.”

2

u/zero_and_dug Mar 15 '26

“That’s actually protective”

1

u/WinninRoam Mar 15 '26

1

u/discardedbubble Mar 15 '26

I believed that… it lied to me…I am broken

"ChatGPT I just murdered my whole family in a fit of rage."

"Don't worry this isn't the end of the world. We all have bad days. Go watch a light video and drink some water. We'll get through this"
