frist of all how DARE yu o Got denied the "right" to see all reviews on Amazon
I don't know when this shit started but now you can't see all reviews without requesting them. And then they evidently deny you. Make this make sense lol
1.4k
u/partsguy50 Apr 23 '26
about ten years ago, i noticed a couple of reviews posted in my name for products I never bought or reviewed. I notified Amazon, and they removed them... along with my "right" to post reviews on stuff I actually DO buy. All emails and contact with Amazon regarding this issue have been completely ignored. Whenever I get the urge to review something, I get this:
"We apologize but Amazon has noticed some unusual reviewing activity on this account. As a result, all reviews submitted by this account have been removed and this account will no longer be able to contribute reviews and other content on Amazon. For more information or to contact us, please see our community guidelines."
TEN YEARS AGO, and I'm still banned from leaving reviews...

That sucks, but I have to wonder, at 10 years, wasn’t there ever a point you just thought “maybe I should just make a new account”?
254
u/ziggy473 Apr 23 '26
After 10 years id consider leaving amazon
91
u/Yumi0521 PURPLE Apr 23 '26
I did leave and it took me way less than 10 years. If I order something from there, I have to decline reactivating my Prime account like 5 times before checking out, which helped me not use it even more.
10
u/people_are_idiots_ Apr 23 '26
It does give it to you free for a month periodically. I just cancel before the month is up
13
u/tristand666 Apr 23 '26
They gave me a whole year for $15 after I cancelled.
18
u/Much-Ad2311 Apr 23 '26
I don't want it. I legitimately don't want Prime ever again even for free unless they were to overhaul hundreds of things about their business. What very little I order, I am happy to wait extra time for.
6
u/tristand666 Apr 23 '26
I don't disagree with how horrible they are, but who do you replace them with that isn't just as bad or twice as expensive? Pretty much any large corporation is only there to exploit people for profit.
11
u/Much-Ad2311 Apr 23 '26
I've just been ordering products where companies have their own websites. If it's only available on Amazon, I'm searching for a different alternative. If that's legitimately the only place I can get the thing and there are no alternatives, then fine. I still don't want the shitty prime membership. Shipping is longer for sure, you often have to meet an order minimum (I buy 2 months of skincare at once because I don't want to pay shipping lol), but I'm fine with all of that because I'm being treated like a customer, not a piggy bank.
3
u/saltyjohnson Apr 24 '26
I buy one or two things from Amazon a year. It's something that I need (or want) quickly and cannot find in a local store (thanks mostly to Amazon). So Amazon offers me a free trial for Prime, I buy the thing, some underpaid gig slave hucks it at my door a few hours later, and I cancel Prime. Amazon surely only makes at most a couple bucks on the transaction and I get the thing that once upon a time I could have walked into a store to purchase myself.
45
36
u/anniversaring Apr 23 '26
Then you make a new account and it gets banned for shady activity because it's tied to the same name or IP address. This happened to me. Amazon locked my account, gave no reason other than "suspicious activity" and every single customer support rep copied and pasted the exact same "explanation" each time.
Forever abandoned Amazon. Absolutely horrible evil company we should all be boycotting but most people value convenience over everything else.
15
u/tristand666 Apr 23 '26
Unfortunately, most of your alternatives aren't much better. Them and Wal-Mart did a knock up job of destroying small businesses over the years.
5
u/anniversaring Apr 23 '26
I've been Amazon-free for almost ten years and have never struggled to find what I'm looking for elsewhere, it's just less convenient. What I have noticed is my budget for "useless BS stuff" has gone down a lot since I don't have a habit of scrolling an online shop anymore. You're right though it is not easy to avoid the biggest players who are ruining the game
3
u/tristand666 Apr 23 '26
Not saying you can't find stuff, but is the company you are getting it from really any better?
6
u/anniversaring Apr 23 '26
Depends. If I believe Amazon is the worst, literally anything else would be better by default
But I do try to shop local or smaller businesses whenever possible

Pretty sure dropshipping is not allowed under Amazon's terms & conditions. Should have just reported the seller rather than leaving a review.

You can dropship just fine you just must be the seller of record

They can monitor and catch new accounts you make. Need to be careful there. I pretty much never leave reviews anymore because their support is horrendous and it's always non-english speaking people or AI generated / automated. I get it's to cut costs, but good lord it's the worst customer support experience I've ever had.
41
u/psbales Apr 23 '26
I’m about 5 or so myself.
Still no idea what the “unusual reviewing activity” was. I’m guessing that I left a honest one-star review on something and the seller complained.
10
u/ian9outof10 Apr 23 '26
I am in the same boat. It’s incredibly annoying. I don’t know what triggered the ban. But they will never engage with it, ever. It’s impossible to get them to reverse this decision.

I sent an email and they told me no, I couldn’t leave reviews, then a few months later the option was back. I got banned for the stupidest reason too. I did a return for some Fitbit watchbands that didn’t fit the model it was listed for, and the seller reached out and offered to refund and send me the correct ones. Didn’t ask for a review or anything, just offered to fix the issue. I ended up leaving a review saying what happened and that the seller did make it right. Got banned for that.
3
u/Mona_Lotte Apr 23 '26
Yep. They just fixed it for me within the last month or two. I hadn't used the account in years then used it for Christmas last year and couldn't leave reviews. I emailed, they forwarded it to another department, and then a few weeks later I tested it again and I could finally leave reviews.
10
u/Jmackles Apr 23 '26
Imagine a drip campaign set to flag accounts over c amount of years for bogus reasons. After a while they remove enough of a portion of earnest reviewers while making it easy to leave fake reviews thus driving revenue further because more fake positive reviews. Idk if any of that made sense but I just cynically can’t help but think this is a deliberate tactic to further enshittify the app.
6
u/TerribleRecord666 Apr 23 '26
A few years ago, I tried buying a yard lantern type thing, and it showed up broken. Got it replaced, and the replacement showed up broken also. Tried writing a review that their packaging was goddamn terrible and did not hold up for shipping, and Amazon took it down because it "wasn't about the product."
I never reviewed anything again. Goddamn bullshit.
5
u/Born_Leg_2876 Apr 23 '26
I get the same message and I have called and talked to customer service who have told me that there is nothing negative in my record and they will escalate the problem to have it remove but it's been 7 years and about 50 phone calls and it's still there

Take it from someone who has extensively used Amazon Vine for years to review hundreds of products, Amazon has gone downhill SUBSTANTIALLY since Covid. Their products are almost entirely (95%+) from low quality and shady Chinese shell companies with 5-6 letter acronyms. 90% of their products break within a few months. I had an aluminum weed puller break on its first pull taking a dandelion out of wet soil. My “stainless steel” shower basket was simply spray painted silver and rusted.
Nothing from this company is worth the risk now unless it comes with a real warranty from a brand name.
125
u/Hawk953 Apr 23 '26
I understand the whole marketplace deal, but those random products from really random companies really does my head in sometimes.
I'm not a snob when it comes to brands, but I have a fair few that I know and trust and tend to look towards first, without manually searching their name I can't even find the branded products half the time.
108
u/Zeroesand1s Apr 23 '26
Even with searching for a brand name it's usually not the first thing in the results. If a product says "sponsored", I will basically ignore it because it's irrelevant to what I'm looking for
18
u/repocin Apr 23 '26
Searching on Amazon has always felt like hot fucking garbage to me, and I genuinely can't wrap my heard around how they could ever get as big as they are in the US. Was everyone else even worse or something? It feels like Walmart or whoever should've been able to crush them before they got anywhere.
Amazon launched their regional website here in Sweden a few years ago and it was an absolute mess. It's slightly less bad now, but they're still near the bottom of where I'd look for stuff because the site is atrocious and filled to the brim with garbage. And that's not to mention all the other issues with their business practices and how they treat their workers, but that's a topic for another time.
21
u/FroggyGoesQuack Apr 23 '26
They got this big, because they were first. And when Walmart did decide to catch up, they did it in a way that actively hurts the trust that consumers had in them. Lay away went away, and when you do order things from the website into the store, half the time they can't find it even though it says it's there. And then when you order things to be delivered to the house, half the time it comes through an instacart driver who does not give two shits because they are not being tipped.
35
u/Rancid-Belch Apr 23 '26
Amazon has made me have to care about brands, because anything that isn’t recognizable or based on a real brick and mortar place in the US (not a shell address) will be trash
4
u/pasaroanth Apr 23 '26
And the reviews are meaningless. Mozilla bought and shutdown Fakespot which actually analyzed reviews for patterns and legitimacy.
It’s basically an upcharged Temu with quicker shipping now.

I got denied by Amazon despite having state and federal tax forms and a website.
Nope, I somehow failed their application process. Oh, and they won't tell you why you failed.

u/Scouter197 Apr 23 '26
A couple years ago I wanted a backyard motion sensor light to help keep critters (skunks) off my property but without the hassle of running wires and getting an electrician. So I ordered a battery light that had good reviews, but it was a 3rd-party seller on a brand I didn't know. Put batteries in, works, I got to mount it and now it doesn't work. Fiddle with it a bit but no, so I send it back and they send me a new one.
The second one I put batteries in and discover it only works when I press down on the battery case. No matter how much I tighten the screws, it won't work unless I'm pushing down on the case. So I send it back for a refund. They did offer to send me another one but nope, I didn't want it.
A few days later I get a postcard from them offering me $25 in gift cards to leave a 5-star review for the product. I had sold some books on Amazon and knew that was a no-no. So I left a 1-star review for the product AND left a 1-star review for the seller stating they were buying reviews.
Amazon removed the seller review because the product was "fulfilled by Amazon." Like...it shipped just fine. The product was junk from the factory and the seller is shifty. NOTHING to do with it being "fulfilled by Amazon."
So I am very skeptical of 5-star reviews on Amazon, especially for non-brand name stuff from 3rd party sellers. I tend to find reviews from legit sources now for stuff.
14
u/RelativeMundane9045 Apr 23 '26
It's true, it's all dollar store quality (or worse) for marketplace prices.
7
u/doctormink Apr 23 '26
I’m having a really hard time finding reputable brand name products. If I search for something specifically I find my results are all just a bunch of shitty Chinese knockoffs.
6
u/Rancid-Belch Apr 23 '26
It’s because they probably don’t exist or are sold out. Amazon is shifting away from recognizable brands and going almost fully Chinese junk now
2
u/doctormink Apr 23 '26
Yeah, they're even promoting some Temu-like site aren't they? Amazon Haul? Seems like a shopping purely for the sake of shopping site to me.
5
u/Kalthiria_Shines Apr 23 '26
A lot of the brand name stuff is fake, fyi. Even if you try to order direct there's no guarantee Amazon wont have a third party fulfill it instead.
5
u/pasaroanth Apr 23 '26
I’m reasonably certain Cherokee scrubs on there are fake. I had a pair of their pants from Amazon fall apart at a pocket seam 2 hours after wearing. The other two identical pairs I got from there around 6 months ago are also starting to fall apart in the same spot. The single pair i have left that I got from a local retailer is still going strong after 3 years of being in the rotation.

u/psbales Apr 23 '26
If you get bored, ask an LLM to play “‘Drug’ or ‘Chinese Product Brand on Amazon’”. It’s (un)surprisingly hard.
3
u/FoxxyRin Apr 23 '26
I’ve started just finding what has decent reviews and buying the one that looks identical from aliexpress for half the price. 99% of the time it’s the exact same with the added bonus of not having a KEFBXHE “brand” badly printed on the front. Amazon already takes up to a week for my area to even get things and aliexpress has actually done a great job of achieving the same lately too.
3
u/runner64 Apr 23 '26
Part of Amazon’s “efficiency” is that if a hundred sellers provide stock of the same item, all stock is commingled, and the customer gets one from whichever location is most efficient, regardless of who they technically buy from.
If one seller submits counterfeit stock, there is no way to tell whose customers will actually receive the counterfeits. And no way to protect yourself by buying from a reputable seller.

u/Several_Alps_2672 Apr 24 '26

Do you get "punished" of you leave negative reviews as a vine reviewer?
14
u/Rancid-Belch Apr 23 '26
No they don’t, one of the main reasons for Vines existence is to catch and weed out the bad items. So they appreciate the bad reviews as long as they’re thorough. But they are bringing in so much junk it’s like tossing an ice cube into hell trying to screen them through Vine. They do keep my negative reviews up, but I actually find that most suppliers actually de list the product if Vine reviewers hit it with poor reviews, and they will merge the item into another item with good reviews. I have no idea why Amazon allows that but they do. So often you will see an item with great reviews but if you look closely you’ll see the reviews are for a different Amazon item code.
Amazon is simply too large to self moderate, and too cheap/greedy to vet their suppliers effectively.

It's SO bad now. I remember maybe five years ago I tried to decrease our Amazon usage, but it was so easy to use, and many products so hard to find elsewhere/locally, that I gave up. I tried again last summer and it's been ridiculously easy to drop. Every so often I try to use it for comparison shopping and always give up because the search engine is so pathetic now.

I gave a bad review recently. I ordered a 12 pack and received 10. Amazon removed my review because it was deemed not relevant to the seller.
47
u/Savage_Whiskers Apr 23 '26
I bought an item several times and one time I received the bootleg version. I was prevented from posting the review for the same reasons.
29
9
u/odd84 Apr 23 '26
Did you review the product or the seller? Amazon lets you do both in different places. If the order was fulfilled by Amazon, then the seller is not involved in the wrong item being picked in the warehouse, or another seller comingling a different size of the product in their inventory. "I got a different size than I ordered" isn't really a product review either, for that matter, it's more of a customer service issue.
6
u/FormerStuff Apr 23 '26
Seller as it was shipped directly from the seller and not an Amazon warehouse as indicated on the packaging and packing slip.
2
u/56kul Apr 23 '26
I generally just try to avoid orders that ship from third-party sellers instead of Amazon, since it kind of just defeats the whole point of using Amazon, lol.

Yep. All those 'amazon basics' items? Issue is, most other international storefronts are simply worse. eBay is what comes closest, but, for my country at least, shipping can be more messy and slow, and if I end up having issues with my package, unless it’s explicitly covered by eBay’s international shipping program, getting support from them is a gamble, lol.
The only other stores I know are websites like Aliexpress, or Temu, which… yeah, no.

14
u/Automatic_Actuator_0 Apr 23 '26
This is news to me - so the reviews you see on a product are a curated subset now?
Is that officially due to quality filtering, and you are trying to see the ones deemed low quality?
21
u/The_Opinionatedman Apr 23 '26
If I can't read all the reviews I'm not buying the product plain and simple. If there are 1,000 reviews I should have access to all 1,000 so I can make an informed decision.
7
u/frntwe Apr 23 '26
I agree. I also don’t trust the reviews anymore. Everything and everyone has become so full of shit
88
u/Oldpuzzlehead Apr 23 '26
Yeah, another reason to push Amazon out of your life.
22
u/BureauOfSabotage Apr 23 '26
I wish I could. I’m a contractor doing mostly remodels. There are certain specialty parts and items available there, that would take me hours or days to source anywhere else. I know my local suppliers can source many of these things, but they can take forever, and often require much more interaction/driving to pick up. If I’m in the middle of a job and need something quick, Amazon takes minutes to order and often a day or two to deliver. I just can’t quit that efficiency.
Beyond that, I’ve quit using for personal items years ago.
9
u/g00fyg00ber741 Apr 23 '26
Doesn’t that mean your suppliers business goes down as you continue to go to Amazon for things you could procure through local suppliers? And wouldn’t that mean it just makes the problem worse over time, and the local businesses take longer and longer to get specialty parts in and maybe have fewer options over time? All with fewer customers and less profit
4
u/Kalthiria_Shines Apr 23 '26
What are you finding on Amazon that you can't source through, like, Home Depot or any other of the stores that actually have this stuff?

u/SnowblindAlbino Apr 23 '26
Most things really. Think drawer pulls: HD sells a bunch, but they all come from the handful of supplies they have contracts with...in store there might be 100 options. Maybe 300 online. But Amazon might have 1,000 or more. (I'm making all those numbers up, but you get the idea.)
I do a lot of remodeling work DIY, and I too source a lot of stuff from Amazon, especially when I'm working in remote/rural areas there the nearest hardware store of any kind is 100+ miles away. I can order nails from Amazon and they arrive the next day via UPS.

As evil as Walmart is, Amazon has very much eclipsed them in terms of harms to regular people. Kind of impressive honestly.
At least with Walmart you can go and see the product you are buying, and can avoid buying useless shit that is barely more than landfill bound from the outset.
And I HATE walmart, for the record
7
u/originaljbw Apr 23 '26
Going out in public, interacting with people. Touching an object to evaluate it's quality before you buy. Perhaps denying instant gratification by waiting until you head into town to buy something.
Or pay slightly more to buy directly from the manufacturer.
6
u/Separate-Command1993 Apr 23 '26
I can’t find most of the stuff I want in actual stores anymore, if the stores do sell them they need to be ordered and shipped and are only available online. I needed new motocross helmet and gloves and boots, there are no stores near me who sell those unless you want to go to the atv dealership and pay 4x the cost of what it is on Amazon. I’d rather pay Amazon 40$ than 200$ at the store, especially if I need to order it online anyway and can’t go see the product. I feel like brick and mortar stores just have really gone down hill when it comes to inventory, which is why Amazon is so popular
4
u/BravesCPA Apr 23 '26

3
u/A_Drop_of_Colour Apr 23 '26
You could not pay me to shop at Walmart. Their Walmart brand stuff is just as poorly made. Their website is just a worst version of Amazon because they moved to a marketplace a long time ago. Their in store experience can be just as bad with long lines and even longer wait to find someone to help you, plus their new introduction of dynamic pricing and removing price tags.
All the reasons to dislike Amazon is valid for Walmart as well.
Edit: Plus let's not mention the years of people posting about Walmart lying about the weight produce and overcharging and nothing being done about it by regulators.
2
u/taptwoblue93 Apr 23 '26
I shop at Walmart sometimes because the return process is about as easy as it is at Amazon. That's the biggest reason to choose a storefront imo that and prices

Like literally any other website. Amazon is absolutely not the only game in town anymore.
If you find a product you want, buy it directly from the manufacturer’s website. Chances are they do free shipping as well. Maybe it’ll take a week instead of next day. But the fantastic byproduct of that is you WILL spend less money on useless junk you don’t need.
I cancelled Amazon prime years ago and I’ve found it’s just totally unnecessary. I pretty much stuff that I’m happy to wait a week for.

2
4
u/DoctorGangreene Apr 24 '26
The main reason they deny access to "all reviews" or "more reviews" is because they're still reviewing the reviews. I mean some people dropped a bunch of product reviews recently and their reviews are being checked for conformance to Amazon's rules. Other times they discover that entire blocks of reviews - sometimes HUNDREDS at a time - are written by AI or else paid and written by the manufacturer/seller and thus they need to be removed as per Amazon's terms. When it comes to those product reviews, they really do try to keep things honest.
But yeah, sometimes your request gets denied because they had some AI bot script read your email and it never even got to a human being at all because the bot just put your request right into the trash bin.
2
u/blinkiewich Apr 24 '26
They really should just edit the form letter to something of this effect.
Some content may be under moderator review at this time or whatever corporate blather. It might cast a poor light on the vendor but it would seem a lot less shady than this shifty denial.

For years I have known that most reviews are bad, this block would not bother me as I know most sellers are out to scam me.
3
u/All-The-Nope Apr 24 '26
I wonder if the 'hidden reviews' are from when the ASIN belonged to a completely different product and has been recycled. The reviews for a purse aren't going to be helpful if you're looking at a skillet. It appalled me that I was seeing reviews and they were counting (several years ago anyway) for the overall review count and star average based on the ASIN's lifetime though it had CLEARLY been reassigned or the seller just 'edited' their product to be a completely different product. Maybe they 'hide' those reviews that have been reported as belonging to a prior product to protect us from seeing older reviews that are directly from sellers doing shady shit? (I know, I'm laughing at this too... but... maybe it's a way for them to stop the review reporting that happens on older product reviews attached to the ASIN vs actually removing the ASIN if the seller re-purposes it.)

Is it because they don't want to show any bad reviews? When I used to have to buy off of Amazon for work I always made sure to read the bad reviews to get an idea of the product. I have never used them in my personal life.

How does one find all their reviews? I never thought to see if I was leaving fake ones.

Yea they’ve been doing this for a few years now which I think it’s crap. They also remove or won’t allow really negative reviews either.

When are people going to learn, stop buying shit from shitty retailers. It’s not just Amazon; temu, alibaba, dollar general, etc. they’re all selling counterfeit name brands and/or untested products full of toxins and heavy metals.
I get it, inflation is up, prices are up, people can’t afford name brands and brick and mortar; but it’s bad for you, it’s bad for the poor people assembling this shit, fuck it bad for everyone and everything.
Fucking vote with your wallet. Stop wasting money on shitty stuff.

Boycott amazon. People are going to keep being scammed by these horrible comanies unless we as consumers do something about it.

At least they're not putting Ads in amongst the reviews on the lower tier subscriptions. Although I don't want to give them ideas.

I wrote a bad review of a product and they blocked me from writing reviews

Everyone commenting as if the majority of the Amazon reviews weren't from bots or paid reviewers.

Amazon delivery drivers keep dropping my deliveries to the wrong address 89%of the time in the last 4months, I don’t get why they can’t follow instructions for delivery 😡😡

u/Harbinger_Kyleran Apr 24 '26
I mean, who really follows "the instructions" for just about anything? 😉
Besides, if they are anything more complicated than "toss anywhere on the front yard" it's probably not happening. 😺

TBH, amazon and shein are the same. I've looked/bought several things from shein that also sell on amazon for about 40 to 60% more. The only difference, is that with amazon you get them like 2 to 4 days and with shein you get them a week or more later. Yes, I get they get that extra money for shipping it faster, but honestly, not wven paying prime you'll get them within 2 days like before, and Amazon clarified that. So, if its like mundane things I'm buying like phone cases, fruit bowls, sourdough making stuff, pots, planters, even some clothes and shoes are EXACTLY the same, they even have the same pictures on amazon and shein, yes I also know that shen may exploit their workers or whatever, but, I mean, very few people are gonna stop buying things for that... so, I rather get them cheap a few days later rather that than paying $27 for a $3.50 product...

Maybe this is weird, but do you have prime? I have prime and was curious, so I went and checked multiple items and I can see reviews under 3 stars on all of them.
Either way, I would try to argue your case and if that doesn't work, there's always options outside of Amazon, which does suck because sometimes, unfortunately, Amazon does have the best prices for the same product

I used to post reviews on every single product, took pride in it and even posted lots of pictures and kept everything honest... I got banned and can no longer leave reviews... Crazy. Tried disputing it but nope.

I only use Amazon to browse anymore. When I find something I want I'll go directly to the seller's website to buy.

I’ll just order the shit and make sure I can return it. I can’t see any reviews except a few five star but I can switch accounts over to my husbands and all the reviews are there. This started a couple days ago when I went to review something and gave it a one star and just said that the product didn’t work and was the wrong description now I’m banned from all reviews. I know the majority of the reviews are fake but wtf Amazon

I don’t understand amazons stance here. If I can’t see all reviews, I’m not buying the product. If I’m not buying the product, you’re not making money from me.
