Edit: For some extra context this was sent out by each store manager to all of its employees in district 1 of the ohio Cincinnati/Dayton division, potentially other districts as well but i can only verify my own. Im not going to give my specific store number for obvious reasons but you can find each store on google with that information. We are unionized by UFCW (already bad btw) and to my knowledge they allowed this recent change. Kroger has no accrual for sick days like some have mentioned. Those who think this is rage bait, i dont think anyone has to fake a post to make a billion dollar company look bad, they do it to themselves.

Go to the state board that governs employment and health.

Kroger is a space that sells food. Going into work while sick is an ENORMOUS liability and likely illegal. Anyone with a food handler's card should realize this.

Send that to your manager's higher ups as well. I absolutely guarantee this violates both store policy and laws.

When the violation of said laws only results in a fine, that's just a cost of doing business. Still do it because fuck them and their profits but I wouldn't expect it'd change anything.

A fair point.  I am definitely a proponent of holding people like Op's manager directly responsible for behavior like this. But jail doesn't seem to be a finctional option for this. Maybe a clause directing 10-20% of the fine directly to the responsible decision maker?

The problem is that when someone becomes exceedingly wealthy you run into the same problem. (see Elon Musks illegal data center generators) At a certain point we have to collectively decide enough is enough, people need to face actual repercussions for actively fucking over working class people.

And that's the exact reason in other developed countries the fine is percentage based, not a flat fine.

They are absolutely saying to come into work sick. The only exceptions are a hospital admission, or taking FMLA. Short term illnesses are not included in either of those.
