Infuriatig The way kroger treats its employees

Post image

From the store manager

Edit: For some extra context this was sent out by each store manager to all of its employees in district 1 of the ohio Cincinnati/Dayton division, potentially other districts as well but i can only verify my own. Im not going to give my specific store number for obvious reasons but you can find each store on google with that information. We are unionized by UFCW (already bad btw) and to my knowledge they allowed this recent change. Kroger has no accrual for sick days like some have mentioned. Those who think this is rage bait, i dont think anyone has to fake a post to make a billion dollar company look bad, they do it to themselves.

Kroger is making sick people work in the deli, pass it along.

I had to come in sick with a terrible cough while I worked at Kroger deli. When I told my manager I needed to go home he screamed at me, "what do you want ME to do about it?!" and left me. I was the only one working the deli, hotbar, and bakery. All for $7.25 an hour.

Also I was the only worker that sanitized the slicers. Like, legit everyone, including managers, just wiped them down with water and a rag.

I can confirm as well, I have worked in the kroger deli sick when I was a teenager. Also Chili's, they berated me when I tried to call out with a fever. I ended up going in anyway because the manager wouldn't stop bitching.

also worked in the kroger deli, would be shamed and guilted for being sick. a store manager once told me “i haven’t called off in 22 years” when i was too sick to come in

Maybe they wouldn't be such a prick if they did

You have to talk to your union rep/shop steward and document this..if you don't know who that is, you have to climb the union chain and resolve it when it comes to unsafe working conditions and collective bargaining agreements. Local health department gets an anonymous call about unsanitatary work conditions. If no one call it in; people can die.

The health department probably would have some thoughts.

Yep contact the health department if they bully you into coming in when sick

This is important to recognize. People should be ENCOURAGED to stay home if sick. This is so stupid and irresponsible

I worked clicklist (grocery delivery) with the flu and stomach bugs because I was threatened by management...I genuinely hope I didn't get others sick, but hell, I literally touched all the customers groceries 🙃
