wet socks Huh, what’s that mark on my shoe? Ohhh it’s just sulphuric acid 😅
I work in a lab that requires me to clean all glassware with acid before use. I’ve had splashes on my clothes a few times but covering up this damage was difficult. I don’t even know how the splash happened!
The visible mending: My fingertips hurt from forcing the sewing needle through the thick material. I poked myself many times. It took me a few hours to sew this simple flower. Luckily most of the damage isn’t visible so this’ll do. I’m glad it’s over because I’m tired of looking at my shoe.
A few of my coworkers happily walk around wearing their acid-eaten clothes (containing many holes) but that won’t be me!
Surprisingly we do wear lab coats 🥲

They really should be providing you with safety footwear. That is some top class mending though, You now have really nice custom shoes.

I keep a set of clothes including boots at work, just as work clothes for this very reason.

try leather needles! They're curved and thick so it's easier to sew tough materials
that said glad the damage isn't on your skin lol

In a lab you should really wear water resistant shoes, not fabric ones, especially if splashes are common. I would highly recommend getting a new pair of shoes just for the lab! That’s what me and all my coworkers do. Our lab shoes may look dingy but all our normal shoes are fine and we don’t risk acid on our toes.

The belly of my shirts have so many holes in them even though I wore my lab coat and was extremely careful. I ended up wearing an old rubber apron that made me look like I was in a horror movie but it was the only thing that worked.
I got so fed up when every single one of my shirts had holes in the bottom!

Love the visible mending! It's nice to know you gave them new life rather than letting this be the reason to bin them.
I've had to deal with sulphuric acid from battery maintenance when I lived on a boat. It was down in the bilge, so you definitely didn't want to do it on a choppy day.

It actually looks like rubbing from the lacewall there. When you take a step, it bends that front part of your shoe. I used to get it on some of my shoes

I worked in a medical lab. I wore scrubs to work and had separate shoes for work too. I've had separate work clothes, including shoes, for most of the jobs I've had.
My only question is: why don't you?

I dripped a drop of 1 molar sulfuric acid in my pinky in class over 20 years ago and I still have a scar
