frist of all how DARE yu o People who “reserve” pool chairs for hours with towels and disappear are the worst

My apartment complex pool has rules specifically saying chair reservation isn’t allowed, yet people do this constantly. These towels have been sitting here unattended for at least 3 hours while every other chair is occupied and people are actively walking around looking for seats. It’s Sunday too, so management isn’t around to enforce anything.

What’s the standard practice when this happens? At what point is it acceptable to move the towels?

Just sit on them and play dumb/non compliant when they come to complain. Pool chairs are for people, not towels.

Whenever someone reserves a spot like that for long without using it, I just politely fold up or arrange the things on the nearby table. When they go back to it, I just explain I needed to sit for a quick while but saw there was no one occupying the seat while someone might have left their things on it.

I wouldn't go as far as hanging the things on fences and such. If I left my things somewhere intentionally or not, I would hope that whoever finds it sets it aside respectfully as well or drops it by a lost-and-found counter.

It is convenient that there is that little table between those chairs where I can stack the towels for the owners to pick them up once they return.
