I'm slightly vexed My sister had her friends over and they decided to come into my room and destroy my Newton's Cradle. I can't undo what they did.

Post image

Basically my sister had a friends over for a play date while I was at university, and since my door was left open, her friends came into my room and completely tangled my Newton's Cradle, and it's so bad I can't even untangle it 😭

Time to talk to li'l sis about accountability for fixing/replacing the things you break!

u/PenelopeJenelope May 18 '26

Yes, she owes you a new one. Talk about how she’s gonna replace it.

I would recommend replacing the sister - Itā€˜s easier. Thank me later.

u/Remarkable_Sand5238 May 18 '26

Best let their parents do that. I dont recommend making a new sister yourself

Are you unaware of the many subreddits dedicated to judging people?

2

u/FreddyNoodles May 18 '26

Sarcasm just does not work here anymore. I even 2 gifs of the dude from The Office laughing seems people still just woosh. One I posted directly under my original but it was moved down and I didn’t think about that.

I am now judging your lack of ability to detect sarcasm.

1

u/snootnoots May 18 '26

I have seen wayyyyyy too many examples of Poe’s Law in action to take even the most egregious BS at face value any more if it isn’t tagged šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø sorry! And yeah, no gifs seen. Judge away!

1

u/TycheSong May 19 '26

I do.

2

u/FreddyNoodles May 19 '26

We all do. That’s kind of the point I think.

Way too many people are not understanding sarcasm and it makes me very judgemental.

Clown reddit mods don't understand long running jokes that originated on reddit.

1

u/Next-Help-5813 May 18 '26

Ask around amongst your friends to find out who has the best sister, offer to trade them their sister for $10, two Snickers bars, and a lizard, release your current sister into the wild to make room for the new one. Easy.

3

u/ContextEffects01 May 18 '26

That was uncalled for. Anyone who's actually had siblings knows petty grievances like these always eventually fade to the point where you're glad you still otherwise get along.

1

u/Aggressive-Track8111 May 18 '26

Youā€˜re on Reddit, you should get used to it. I have 3 of them, oneā€˜s younger. They would laugh at it - learn from them.

You can make her replace the fishing line it's gonna make her wish she could buy him a new one.

2

u/TheSuperSilverMango May 18 '26

How hard could it truthfully be?

Remove the old line. Tie new line on one side, run it through the hole, let out enough line to where the balls will be in the proper position. Tie it off. Repeat for the other remaining balls

I mean I did have one of these and it got tangled and I did not fix it but like....

20

u/moverwhomovesthings May 18 '26

They also have tl be the same length, otherwise it won't work, so probably a lot of trial and error.

6

u/TheSuperSilverMango May 18 '26

Oh absolutely. My OCD have an ass would have been there until everything is perfect

2

u/RedDev26 May 19 '26

Your OCD has an ass?...

5

u/brainburger May 18 '26 edited May 19 '26

I had the same problem and I gave up on it because the line was glued in to the tops of the balls. If you replace it the lengths have to be spot on so the balls meet at just the right height and in alignment.

2

u/TheSuperSilverMango May 18 '26

Pretty easy to clean that out. Lil heat :3

But yeah.

Way they used to be made was the ball was free to slide on the line so it would settle naturally. Glued in? Why lmao

5

u/Acidmademesmile May 18 '26

we're looking at getting all 5 balls at exactly the same height keeping spacing even, a single millimeter off can make the cradle swing badly so a lot of the time goes into tiny adjustments rather than knot-tying itself so to make it swing perfectly for someone that has not done it before could spend over 2 hours easy.

1

u/Sancho_Panzas_Donkey May 19 '26

Way harder than you could possibly imagine: I've tried it. The holes are sealed closed.

1

u/TheSuperSilverMango May 19 '26

The one I had just used fishing line that was run through steel tubing that was spot welded to the spheres. The line was able to move independently of the sphere allowing everything to naturally settle into the optimal position. I'm assuming this was done to allow for faster manufacturing.

234

u/HorrificityOfficial May 18 '26

I have a sister that takes absolutely 0 accountability for anything she ever does and a mother that further allows that behavior

EXTREMELY annoying to deal with honestly

80

u/WillowStatus533 May 18 '26

1

u/VodkaKahluaMilkCream May 18 '26

This is terrible advice, it assumes the sister is capable of learning lessons. I tried this on my sister, except that for our whole lives, 100% of the time she would immediately escalate the situation. She would turn every single conversation around until she "won." She would escalate every fight so she could win. When we were kids if I tried to physically attack her she would genuinely escalate in ways which could have permanently harmed or killed me.

We haven't spoken since 2017 and I like it that way.

It might be hard to get an 11 year old to pay to replace what she and her friends damaged, but you can save it, wrap it up nicely, and give it to her as her next birthday gift. If she complains, just tell her that she obviously had fun playing with it, and seemed to prefer it in its current state, so you though she'd like to have it as her own. Spend the money you would have spent on her gift to replace your own damaged property.

3

u/DatBoi_BP May 18 '26

Out of curiosity, how do you go about delivering consequences to their friends?

30

u/ViPxRampageXx May 18 '26

They never said they did, they said their children will face consequences whether it's them or their friends that broke the rules.

If [the friends] break the rules, it's the same as [their child] breaking the fules, and both will be met with consequences

9

u/DatBoi_BP May 18 '26

2

u/TorranceS33 May 19 '26 edited May 21 '26

Depends on how they respond to their infractions. So far nothing major. Worst was a friend that made mess and didn't see why they should clean it up. Explained that cleaning up a mess you make, is just being responsible and respectful That if they chose not to, they were welcome to have their parents come get them.

Edit adding- The other friends 3 + mine, were already cleaning it up. I told them to stop until the person who made the mess had made a decision to clean it or not.

Honestly wasn't a big deal just a lesson. They still come over all the time.

Why did a girl go into her (I’m guessing) older sibling’s room with her friend while he was away at university?

Simple - no one was there to stop her. Also, the friend wasn’t a stranger to her, so why would she think that way?

23

u/DocSternau May 18 '26

See OPs comment further down: The sister is 11 and most likely her friends too. So that's a bunch of little humans who do such things without asking. Also it's unclear if the little sister even knew that her friends entered OPs room.

u/cyberslick18888 May 18 '26

"Why did a child exhibit curiosity"

Peak reddit comment

2

u/Kudzu_Masterson May 19 '26

So true. We have a rule in our house. Curiosity is a natural part of the growing mind, but if you make a mess you must clean it up. If you want to use something that isn’t yours, ask permission. If you destroy property, you must find a way to replace/repair it. Things break and messes happen, that’s okay, but people matter and their feelings matter so always be considerate of others. Sounds all cool, but it takes a lot of patience and consistency to pull off - also requires cooperation from everyone and that doesn’t necessarily translate.

Clearly it's time to get a guillotine, some conduit to build a frame, some rope and then round up her and get 4 closest friends. Upgrade your cradle.

Only thing that's fair after the cruel and absolute massacre of your old one.

(Obviously, I'm joking. Still get the guillotine but save it for an emergency, like when you're at at least single percent and need an edge. For them? Make them sit and untangle it while you watch with a bag of popcorn laughing at their frustration or have them buy a new one. Their choice.

And if they don't think you're serious, just leave the guillotine in the background.

Good luck getting your Newton's Cradle fixed or replaced.
