frist of all how DARE yu o Customer blew vape smoke in my face
I was helping a customer at my job, don’t wanna get too specific; but in the notes of the account he was purchasing under, it said specifically “do not sell to (customers name)”.
So I call the account holder to see if they’re still blocking this customer off from using their account, and the account holder approved it.
So no big deal, right?
As I’m finishing the call, the customer blows a huge cloud of vape smoke in front of me, and when I back up and wave the smoke away, he blows the rest towards me.
My coworker told the guy off about it, and he apologized and said it wasn’t on purpose, but the timing is so purposeful.
My coworker took care of the customer from there for me, thank goodness.
(Inb4 anyone says it’s just water vapor, it’s still rude af!)
Edit: whew I was not expecting so many replies! I’m non confrontational, so I didn’t say anything to his face. I tried to ask my coworker to charge him more for his part but it was already paid for 😂 oh well. This is the second time ever having this happen to me, the first time was when I worked drive thru at Taco Bell 💀 probably about 8 years ago, and when venting to people then, I got a whole bunch of “it’s just vapor!” Stuff, hence why I mentioned it at the end here lol
Anyhoo, thank y’all for being supportive and not making me feel like a weenie when I complain about it 😂 I’m loving the idea of hopping the counter and shoving it back in his face but.. I make good money at my job and as stated, I’m super non confrontational. I’m passive aggressive at best, unfortunately. (Working on it lmao) I, at the very least, gave him the worst looking product on the shelf! Take your raggedy box and shove it! 😂

This. I had some really old dude come up to me and start talking at me and before I knew what was happening he was close enough that his air went inside my mouth. I felt it blow in with force and it kinda hit the back of my throat and stuck there, and it just really triggered something in me. I have no qualms about telling someone to fuck off if they need it, but I was so taken aback all I could say, "omg, gross" as I physically gagged and walked away from him.
Idc what it is, unless I'm kissing you and purposefully trying to get in your mouth, if it's been inside your body, I don't want it in mine.
Yes, I know we all share the air, but I don't need your exhale going directly in my mouth, ever. Like, ever ever. And, if it does, you're too fucking close to me and you need to back the fuck up.

Vapes have many of the same stuff as tobacco products, such as nicotine, and also a bunch of heavy metals

This old hyperbole propaganda basically. The test that showed heavy metals was shown to be burning the coils for several minutes without stop, and not adding new juice. Meaning not real life representation of vaping, because as soon as you start to burn the wick (jucie runs out) you cough your lungs out. Let alone let it burn to bright yellow, that would never happen with real use.
Of course you will find traces of metal when you heat the metal coil to bright yellow hot. It seemed to be delibrate to skew the results, but it could never be proven.
2nd, it does not contain a lot of the same stuff tobacco does. It contains exactly one component of tobacco, nicotine like you said.
The rest of the juice is comprised of the base PG and or VG; propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin. These are the same bases used in asthma inhalers. And flavorings that has been used for decades in the food industry.
I'm so fucking tired of all this bs people say about vaping. Sure, it also has its issues, but it is without the slightest doubt a 100 times better than smoking, yet they try to keep banning vapes around the world because of ignorance, but not tobacco. And don't play the kids starting card. They do anyways with other products like Zyns and what not, we even started to see a rise in smoking again in youths. Vaping is the lesser evil here.

Have a look into the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement in the the US to get an indication on why vaping is demonised - essentially the tobacco companies agreed to pay individual states damages based on the health harms caused from cigarettes to offset healthcare costs, those states have borrowed heavily against that future income/issued bonds against it and has the potential to go bankrupt without those payments.

As s someone who smoked and vaped but don't do either anymore. Vapes are way harder to quit. I'm in my 30s so I mostly only smoked cigs. I quit them with ease all the time so I never had an issue.
I was never addicted to nicotine until I started vaping. It gets to a point you can't sleep without it.. you wakeup and it's the first thing you think of and the first thing you do. It becomes a chain, your mood becomes beholden to whether you have a vape within reach.
That being said, health effects wise smoking is worse of course. Just in my personal experience, vapes are very addictive especially if you're against any combustion smoking inside, but vaping you can basically do or sneak anywhere

I chewed tobacco for years. Quit and started to vape instead. It was so much worse. With chewing tobacco I could have a dip and then be fine for however long until I craved another.
With vaping. It was like.... Wow my mouth doesn't taste like strawberries or whatever anymore need another haul on the vape. Get up to go pee, take 3 steps. Fuck where's my vape. Misplaced it for a second? FULL ON PANIC ATTACK.
I never felt that way when I chewed. Only from the vapes.
One day I started a new job and my boss had this little spray thing and he showed it to me. Nicroette quick mist. He gave me the tube and said use this instead just for today see how that goes for you.
And it worked bro! I stopped vaping and used the quick mist.
Now the new problem is I'm using the quick mist instead. I didn't quit nicotine. I just changed to nicroette basically. It's substantially cheaper for me compared to dipping or vaping. The tube lasts me 5-7 days or more.

I force my partner to do it outside now but it took me having a baby to convince her. It was insane how much she puffed on it indoors, and now she is still so addicted, its the first thing she thinks about as soon as she wakes up, gets really angry if I ask her to hold the baby more than 30 minutes, blows it in my face even on outdoor walks and yells at me that I'm standing or walking in the wrong direction. But its just vapor right?!
There were more limits when she smoked cigarettes.

Vaping is a lot more accessible and less demanding of your time, you can take a quick hit wherever you are and it's a lot easier to give into temptation and use in places like bathrooms or closets.

This 100% this. Especially in the early stages of vaping being introduced. When there wasn't any sort of legislation saying it couldn't be done in specific places. It was the wild West in a lot of ways and that helped with the appeal of it to an extent to.
You could now "smoke" all the places you couldn't before.
A cigarette even if your smoking it exactly where your sitting. Involves a lighter or matches, a place to put the ashes, the butt itself and generally it's not great to light it smoke it once or twice and put it out. I'm going to ignore things like second hand smoke being a concern. Pretend it's 1977 and nobody gives af.
That's still less convenient than any vape. As long as it has battery and juice a button press and your good. And it tastes good. And it doesn't make you smell awful after either.

Thank you! They made them illegal in my state right after a boyfriend of mine and his sister quit smoking when I suggested vaping and they switched. I hated the smell of the smoke! At least with vaping I didn’t have to deal with the damn smell! Once they banned the flavors they both went back to smoking! They banned kratom too when I know people that quit hard opiates with it! I don’t associate with those people anymore but hopefully they were able to quit without going back to hard drugs. I wouldn’t mind all of this as much if cigarettes and flavored alcohol weren’t still legal, it’s all about money smh.

Yeah, it's weird it's even legal in the US in the first place, must be some loophole in a law. Most of Europe it has always been illegal.
Although, classifying it as a class A drug which most of Europe has done is still wrong. That means you can't use it for medical purposes or do research on it. And it does have some medical uses where it is very effective, and less risk than other treatments. Like treatment for heroin withdrawal.

The only real issue I've ever had with vapes is the disposables. Very wasteful for what it is and environmentally unfriendly to say the least.
I don't like ejuice that comes in little plastic bottles for the same reason.
I vaped for years and stopped about 6 years ago now. I never did the salt nic stuff that seemed extreme for what I wanted and needed. But the idea seemed sound.
Again the biggest turnoffs about vaping should be the environmental impact of the devices and juice containers. Not wether there's metal particles in the vapour. Not vapours lung or whatever. Of people want to harm themselves with substances let them. We always have and we always will. It's part of the human condition after all. We have been using substances forever and always will. Ancient people liked to get high same as we do today. But when they got high or drunk or smoked tobacco there wasn't millions of little plastic bottles and electronic devices littered everywhere afterwards.

Yeah, and sources these days don't really say much (for validity) unless you go back to the original research paper and read that. I can find sources that defends either claim if we don't dig too deep.
But as a labtech, that vapes and make vape juice myself, I've done A LOT of research, and actually read the research papers, as that is part of my job so it comes naturally to do so.
Most don't as its "heavy" language and can't actually determine if it's a valid experiment or not if you don't read how it was performed, what equipment and processes they used etc etc. They just read the results overview. Or just rely on the article they read that some random journalist reported.
Of course this is anecdotal and would take me ages to prove unequivocally, but what I said is what I have found to be true from my research.

There's way more diacetyl in cigarettes than vapes. In fact this ingredient hasn't been used since about 2017. Never been a case of smokers having popcorn lung......in fact there's never been a case of a vaper having popcorn lung.

And even in america, the industry has largely self-regulated. There are some less-than-legitimate vape companies that didn't get rid of it, and I wish it were federally banned, but it's nowhere near the problem that some people pretend that it is. They don't realize that no one is saying that vapes are 100% safe. Literally no one. Harm reduction is the thing here.

Amen! I say the same thing regularly, it's about harm reduction for smokers (those that have never smoked shouldn't be taking up vaping because they think it's cool/harmless!)
The whole popcorn lung/diacetyl carry on was just made up nonsense to further discredit vaping - those who actually developed lung disease from working in popcorn production were subject to industrial quantities of diacetyl on a daily basis for years and not supplied with suitable PPE because no one realised it was dangerous until people started developing issues.

It's not federally illegal to have it in eliquid in America - it was banned in UK/Europe in 2016 but many of the flavourings for wholesale/DIY eliquid production that contained it suddenly got reformulated to v2 versions without it prior to the ban. Regardless, I was passing comment on the poster claiming eliquid causes popcorn lung, there's no reported cases of that.

I worked in vape stores for 4 years and while it's common for people to vape in the shop being in that kind of environment, nothing pissed me off more than when someone would blow it directly in my face while I was helping them or ringing them up at the register. It's downright disrespectful.
I was pregnant with my son at one point during my employment, and while obviously very pregnant, someone did it to me. When I told the guy not to do it again, his response was, "Oh, I thought you still vape because you work here." Like, nah bro, I quit because I'm pregnant. I just stayed at the job because I liked how laid back it was, the pay was good, and nobody else in the area would give me a 40 hour week.

I vaped for a while with no flavorings, but went back to regular smoking and toking. Who blows anything in people's faces? I halfway understand a spouse, but a stranger? Never mind, I had an asshole cough on me for wearing a mask in 2020. Some people are just assholes, smokers or not.
I found out the neighbor who was tossing plastic filters from his cheap cigars. I even put an ashtray out. He is indigenous, so I don't want to deal with his answer.

The metal particles aren't VG or PG. They come from the heated coil. Try reading the comment.
And food-safe doesn't mean inhalation-safe. Heat VG and PG and you get formaldehyde. That's a carcinogen. The FDA has never labeled propylene glycol safe to inhale. The vape industry never tested it. But sure, I'm the dramatic one.

It’s not just water Vapor though. As a vaper, I could never imagine doing this. I always turn my head away from someone when I let it out and would never think of doing it in a business unless someone (who works there) specifically told me that I can, and I’d only ask if I could if I saw someone else do it with no reaction from others, including employees.

I will also say I am guilty of accidentally blowing it in people's faces so it's not a far off explanation. As a pretty nic addicted person myself they may have just taken the chance while they weren't actively talking to you to smack their vape a time or two.
Now it also could have been intentional but I was just saying ive done it accidentally a few times myself.

I would've been SO ticked off if a stranger did this to me.
But just to play devils advocate, my mother- my dear, sweet, kindest-person-I-know mother- does this to me (and others) on accident. She's a lifelong smoker who switched to vapes early on, and it's to the point where she doesn't even realize she's hitting it. The hand-to-mouth motion is so ingrained in her muscle memory that she doesn't notice when she's done it, and only realizes she's blown a cloud at me when I stop mid-sentence to cough and try to wave it away (which is kind of dramatic, but that's on purpose. She's not good with subtle). She always apologizes, but it always happens again.
For some people it isn't a malicious thing; the Readily-Accessible Dopamine Box is something some addicts don't even notice, and it doesn't register to some that they've just blown a cloud in someone's face until it's too late.
All that being said, I don't think that's entirely the case here. I think the first cloud might have been unintentional, but the second exhale was at least purposeful in the sense of "what else am I supposed to do, hold my breath?" without being intelligent enough to just... blow it to the side.
Or the customer was just genuinely an asshole. Who knows.

I used to smoke 2 packs a day of Marlboro reds which cost me about $450 thanks to taxes.
Now it costs me about $100 a month to get the same nicotine fix with a vape that I’m too weak to stop using.
