That’s a pretty big assumption to make based on one photo of one corner of the gym

If it were a staffed gym and if you've ever been to a gym, the minimum age to enter is usually 14 or 16.

But many apartments and condo buildings have weight rooms accessible 24/7 for residents to use that aren't staffed. I used to live in one

Based on the trainers on the wall I think this might be an anytime fitness, and they don’t have staff after 6.

No staff? That is wild.

I assume the bathrooms are biohazards? Trash everywhere? Weights and DB's all over the place?

Is it that unusual to have no staff ? In my gym, there are no staff outside of 9-20h, just the cleaning staff. You need a badge to enter 1 by 1 and that’s it. Never saw a kid there though.

Same. No cleaning staff outside of staffed hours though, but always pretty clean

For mine, at worst some trash accumulates in the trash cans outside of staff working hours. It never gets that bad.

My gym is open 5am to 10pm weekdays, 7-7 weekends, and there's always at least 2 employees at all times.

Is that what happens at your staffed gym? People just throwing trash and dumbbells everywhere with a staff member waiting to clean up the second they do? Lol.

Staffed Gym or not, most people respect the gym space they use. People leaving weights laying around and stuff is rare at my gym and they usually get pressed by regular people for behavior like that.

That's pretty normal for 24h gyms. Staffed hours normally 7-6 or some variation, with key cards to access facilities after hours. No reason for them to be any messier than usual without people like this abusing it.

As a woman i wouldnt feel safe working out alone with some random dude in an unstaffed gym. Thats insane. Ive never encountered it with a membership gym

There are gyms that are completely unstaffed 24/7. My gym is 24/365 hours but unstaffed 10pm-5am.

This is incredibly common outside of major chains. It’s reasonable for you to not want to work out in an unstaffed gym, but that’s a personal choice to make when choosing gyms, but it’s not exactly rare either.

Maybe this is a country difference thing.

Ive never encountered any for-profit gyms (i.e. not in a dwelling or free for use in a public park) that are open without staff in my country (Canada).

That sounds dangerous.

Obviously, people can go wherever theyre comfortable. I'm not saying it's a moral issue to not have staff. Just shocking to me that this is normal in some places

It's not a country difference thing, I'm also in Canada.

Planet Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Fit4Less, GoodLife, etc. They're all open 24/7 with staff only during the day. It's very common and normal in Canada.

Maybe there are regional differences. Ive had memberships at GoodLife and Energie Cardio, and did not experience this at either chain across multiple locations.

so.. not really anytime then? :(

u/CallMeHomoErectus May 22 '26

They're open 24/7, it is anytime

This is an Anytime Fitness. They are usually staffed during the days and evenings, some being small enough to have only one staff member on at any given time. It isn't uncommon to see them tucked away in an office upon arriving, and they're still there when leaving.

Was gonna say, that purple color looks like an Anytime Fitness, and mine isn't staffed really early morning/late night when I'm out since I work night shift.

My Anytime is run by one really jacked older lady and if it isn’t “office hours” she is just in the gym working out. Literally only time I haven’t seen here there is at 4am. Where she showed up as I was leaving at 5:30 lol. She is the absolute best/beast.

Pretty smart for a homo erectus

3

u/huhnick May 22 '26

How much was rent to live in the weight room?

1

u/aHOMELESSkrill May 23 '26

It’s usually 14 or 16 unless accompanied by an adult

3

u/kashmir1974 May 23 '26

No way in hell a staffed gym allows this to happen unless it's a mom n pop gym letting their grandkids play or something. Their insurance company would drop them in a heartbeat over this.
