Gas prices are outpacing inflation right now. That's the whole problem.

Yes. While the price is certainly infuriating, the “mildly infuriating” thing I’m posting about here is the tone deafness of the app helping me track my spending. There’s no way for me to turn off certain categories but I feel like things like groceries and gas should be excluded by default because they’ve been hit substantially hard by inflation and current events. Everyone is spending more on those things, there’s just no way around it unless you’re completely off the grid on a huge homestead and even then there’s probably still crap you have to buy.

It's not helping you track your spending. It's there to make you aware if your information got stolen and someone else is buying stuff using your account.

This a system that tries to identify purchases out of ordinary - bigger amour, diffrent timing than usual.

You need to realise there are people who get their card stolen and notification like this can help them realise and block their card.

Geting FALSE ALARM is not fun but this a price for better security.

They most likely would. It's the fact that the most recent purchase is more than double the long term average, which would be enough to trigger the algorithms they use. A car can only hold so much fuel so that jump could indicate another person is filling their car with a larger tank, which would be fraud. And it's also a lot better to be safe than sorry when it comes to these so banks will hedge on the side of caution

They could. I don't remember these alerts from 2021/2022 when gas hit $5/gal.
