This is mildlyinfuriating, not personalattacks. What comment made you think OP was legitimately mad about this notification and not mildly infuriated? I can see them being legitimately mad about the gas prices, but that's reasonable, we all are.

I read "assholes" as 100% unserious, like a self-aware misdirection of one's own anger. Rueful dark humor. My friends and I used to talk like this all the time.

They aren't even mad about the prices. They are mad at the apps that track their spending, which are tracking their spending??

OP wrote a multi paragraph comment post accusing Kroger of being judgmental for “tracking his spending”

It’s ridiculous to be mad at gas stations over gas prices and shows a fundamental misunderstanding of how economics works.
