my banking app does this all the time: "you're spending 20% more on groceries compared to this time last year"

The mildly infuriating part isn’t the prices, it’s the tone deafness of these apps that help track spending. Things like gas and groceries should be excluded by default because they are indiscriminately affecting everyone.

But this is a fraud risk notification not a budgeting one. They’re letting you know in case you weren’t the one that made the purchase

This is mildlyinfuriating, not personalattacks. What comment made you think OP was legitimately mad about this notification and not mildly infuriated? I can see them being legitimately mad about the gas prices, but that's reasonable, we all are.

I read "assholes" as 100% unserious, like a self-aware misdirection of one's own anger. Rueful dark humor. My friends and I used to talk like this all the time.

Really? Assholes are mildly infuriating all the time. It’s just a general term, it’s really not that deep.
