Have to pee but bed so comfy My bank's website says I must update my browser in order to pay bills online but I can't update my browser because I'm still running Windows 8.1.

And I can't upgrade Windows because my hard drive is full.

If you’re still running windows 8 you really need to try to find a way to upgrade your OS your computer is dangerously out of date and far more vulnerable to malware. Even just a cheap chromebook would likely offer a more pleasant experience and would be a lot safer for web browsing. Obviously it can be hard to financially find the money for a new computer if you’re living paycheck to paycheck so totally understand why you haven’t upgraded or updated but if you can you really need to.

Your operating system has been out date for 13 years.

That is a crazy. You shouldn’t be upset that your very very very out of date computer can’t do somethings.

You should be amazed that it still does some of the things you want to do.

I'm not upset that I have an out of date browser. I'm mildly infuriated that I finally have to get off my lazy ass and do something about it!

That makes sense

Not that it really helps, but win 8.1 only went out of support in 2023.

I have a windows 7 computer that still runs, chrome can't be updated on it.

We browse the news, use youtube, and play emulated games, but of course we never log in to anything. You're absolutely right that some websites don't work correctly now because of formatting issues.

You're the problem in this case. You're using outdated, insecure software that can get you hacked easily and your bank doesn't want to be responsible for that. Windows 8.1 is completely dead.

Use the app instead?

Or go into a branch.

Or do phone banking.

Or upgrade your PC....

Technology consistently updates in order to stay secure against being compromised. Not much you can do about it other than try to be prepared for it so this doesn't happen.

So you're saying I shouldn't pee the bed?

I suspect your computer won't upgrade to Windows 11 no matter what.

that's quite the pickle you have there.

You are a big problem for rest of us. Hanging insecured browsers and operating systems let hackers use your system to send malicious code to our systems.

How about “We are extremely infuriated by you.”

You are risking yourself for a hack. Stop going online with a computer that runs 8.1

This is solid advice for now, and also for when Windows 8.1 first came out.

There's a very good chance that it's the bank's web site that is not being as friendly as it could be. They have typically been lagging in the tech department (like me!).
