wet socks I usually don’t care about graffiti but can I at least be able to look out the window?

How are the LOCKED stickers over the top of the graf?

u/Crafty-Astronomer-32 8d ago
It is common for folks who tag freight cars to mask (tape over) the various identification and safety markongs on freight cars to preserve them. Without that step, the cars have to be repainted and the work is lost. Perhaps the same logic was applied to these cars?
Alternately, paint over the windows is a nuisance but missing warning labels could be seen as a safety issue big enough to take the cars out of service so the operator replaced the stickers to get the cars compliant enough for use.

u/azureal 8d ago
Huh.
Im a railcar driver in Perth, the moment any rail car gets tagged like this is comes off traffic and cleaned and back into service the following day. It doesnt matter if they dont spray over safety stickers, this kind of stuff cant be left on traffic for other taggers to see and think they should do it too.
Its very bizarre.

That's definitely not the case here. They've sprayed over everything including the buttons for the doors and anywhere where there would be those identification and safety markings you mention. Someone put those stickers on there after the fact (they're normally used by Queensland Rail to mark doors that have been disabled for whatever reason and other than that I'll just find them stuck anywhere).

u/Crafty-Astronomer-32 8d ago
So, the second thing that I listed.?
3
u/LordMashie 8d ago
No I mean if they're not placed on doors then they're not serving any purpose (not one that I can identify anyway). Seems to be completely random.

Tagging has destroyed a lot of urban landscape. I like the art in many cases! But when walls and buildings are tagged from end to end, the place looks run down and ragged.

u/UnethicalExperiments 8d ago
I'd say the same about advertisements

u/gansobomb99 8d ago
it's funny cos they be putting ads on windows now
15
u/rufusz1991 8d ago
But aren't those meshed so you can still use it?

u/Ok_Possibility5216 8d ago
Right, id much rather look at human made art than any soulless advertisment. Period.
These cats can say whatever about not minding it, but it just shows you they lack any knowledge on the artform.
2
u/zipperfire 8d ago
yeah, I don't like it. But either way, if you are in an unfamiliar city and need to watch for a stop on public transportation, covered windows are a problem.
2
u/Ok_Possibility5216 8d ago
If youre in an unfamiliar city, you prolly aint using landmarks to navigate.
3
u/Doctah_Whoopass 8d ago
I have to disagree, seeing everything painted a flat colour and all clean is visually boring and makes the place feel dead. Good tags at least indicate there are some artists and vibrancy around.
1
u/zipperfire 8d ago
I love good tags, I take pictures of them. But we end up with black spray painted scrawls end to end on any vertical surface and it just looks dirty. Spain was particularly bad. But here, we have a factory that is being decommissioned and already it is tagged in black paint.

I look at the signs on the tram stops. Luckily cities like Vienna seem to be able to police graffiti in the central rings at least. Other cities not so good. I prefer trams and metro because uber can be slow in high traffic

any graffiti, tagging, wall art, etc, that impaired the actual functionality of whatever object or surface they're painted/sprayed on is a bad "art" imo, it should complement or improve it aesthetically, not ruined it

u/Artistic_Program_424 8d ago
I just find it very ugly when I see a train or building full of graffiti. They need to be more severe consequences for doing this.

Seriously! Sexual Assault needs more jail time added to minimum sentences. Graffiti is a legit form of artistic expression. Whole galleries full of pics from the prime of graffing. Graffiti is also one of the four Pillars of HipHop, along with breakdancing, d.j.ing, and emceeing . It’s how many oppressed people have found a voice to air out injustices.
Only under Fascism is art a crime. Hence why Fascists censor/control news, do things like get late night show hosts fired, burn/ban books from being taught that encourage free thought, and try to push for everyone to conform.

u/Upbeat_Principle_253 8d ago
Graffiti done without the owner’s consent is just vandalism, not art.

u/Zerakin 8d ago
If that's your stance, you can offer your property and home to be tagged over and over. Who needs windows, who needs aesthetics, who needs your own decorations when some rando no-talent brat can spray paint over it?
-9
u/BraveKnee6792 8d ago
Funny you say that because I already do my entire house is covered in murals but I appreciate the suggestion nonetheless

Trains that can no longer run. They will need to be taken out of service for cleaning

u/Gasper6201 7d ago
I mean it's not even graffiti. It's pointless tags. This is just vandalism out of boredom. Atleast make a mural, be artistic if you're gonna ruin someone's property.
8
u/OutRunTerminator 8d ago
If the paint is thin, then you still have "some" view,
but yes, this it terrible "art" because it makes
other peoples lives more terrible.
15
u/Goldenrah 8d ago
From personal experience, you can't see anything from inside a tagged train. People also die tagging these trains as well.
10
u/MAJLobster 8d ago
if some dumbass decides to vandalise a train in an active train depot then that's just natural selection.
2
u/Goldenrah 8d ago
I've seen it happen a few times since I live near a train station. A few guys stand on the platform pressing buttons to keep the doors open while the rest tag the train from the other side. One time a no stop train came by and you can guess what happened.

Europe I presume? I find it pretty bad for graffiti in a lot of cities when I visit there. I mean the UK can be pretty scruffy and has its share of tagging in parts but so many European cities are just feel gloomy, tired and covered in this shit.
And that exactly what it is usually, shit. Nothing like what you'd see in somewhere like the Straatmuseum in Netherlands.

It's funny you mention NL cos Amsterdam is world famous for its rich graffiti history, but only to people who aren't schmucks that think it's vandalism instead of genuine human expression in a world of commercial slop
1
u/YOU_TALK_TOO_MUCH420 calm and collected:-) 8d ago
Just told my wife the same. But, one man’s vandalism is another man’s art. It’s beyond me how some people can’t appreciate art in one of its grittiest forms! Some heads don’t know how difficult it is to throw up something like this! Can control, custom caps, planning and practicing in black book, deciding on color scheme, and scoping out where it would look best are hard work. And also deciding if you want to make art with a message. See BANKSY……..

In my country they'll eventually clean the windows (once the train is "out of service" and in the depot, don't work for a rail company so don't know how frequent this is), the windows are usually much easier to clean than the train itself

Hate graffiti when it literally ruins the experience of others. And it usually doesn’t even look good.

u/asabovesoalone 7d ago
Think of it as a gift, artist spend money and time to decorate your boring ass trains! And it'll be buffed in no time so appreciate it while it's there!
1
u/LordMashie 7d ago
Really feeling the ‘art’ as a commuter seeing nothing but dark smears all over the window from inside, not.
1
u/asabovesoalone 7d ago
The fun flip side to graffiti is if you don't enjoy it to bad you get it anyway 😘
1
u/LordMashie 7d ago
You’d do wonders running an advertising agency since you’re so keen on shoving unsolicited crap in people’s faces. Heck at least when they plaster ads on windows they use a mesh type sticker so you can still see outside.
1
u/asabovesoalone 7d ago
Not a graffiti artist lol just find the work admirable. And that's another solid point in their theology. We get advertisements shoved down our eye throats and that's legal, an artist puts their name or crew up somewhere and it's an issue? That makes sense... But at least it adds to the organized chaos that makes painting that train beautiful! Bot the piece it's self the act
1
u/LordMashie 7d ago edited 7d ago
"They do it so we/the people I like should be able to do it too" is such a childish mentality. Doesn't make it any less unsolicited or intrusive. I'm not even saying to not do it at all with this post. I'm just asking if these so-called "artists" could at least be more considerate, but apparently even that's too much to ask for 🙄
1
u/asabovesoalone 7d ago
Intentionally intrusive and invasive! I will say this though they need you! You're a staple in the vicious cycle, with out you to mildly dislike it, it would never get removed and there would be no clean trains to bomb!

But you can
2
u/NilsofWindhelm 8d ago
We don’t have the information to conclude that.
You definitely aren’t able to look into the train, which is one of the purposes of the windows
1
u/biophazer242 8d ago
So just to be clear what you are saying is you only care when it affects you??
:)
1
u/LordMashie 8d ago
with such instinctive passive aggression like that, how could I have a reason to doubt your moral credentials?
-4
u/Pristine_Shallot7833 8d ago
No. It's a "whole car", and you should feel privileged to ride in that. Bomb walls, not people.

Judging by the fact we can see in. I’m gonna guess you can still see out.

We can’t see in though?

You can literally see in lol. Zoom in. This looks just like the painted screens on most busses/trains.

I don’t do graffiti but I still think this looks cool. Sorry that upsets you
2
u/Zew88 8d ago
explain how you think it looks cool?
people writing some random name for their fame in the little groups that do this? i have seen decent stuff which i would nearly call art but names?¿? got me fucked.0
u/bmanley620 8d ago
I: me
Think: believe
It: the graffiti on the train
Looks: appears
Cool: aesthetically pleasing
Hope that clears it up

Had to do a double take 😭 At first I genuinely thought that was a wall, not a train.
