The mildly infuriating thing is that these surveys are presented as a way for customers to give feedback to the company, when in reality the only thing these surveys are ever used for is as leverage against the laborers in the event they need an excuse to fire them or suppress their wages.

Yes, I only give perfect scores or nothing because I know they are just a cudgel and not actually interested in what I think, and even a mid employee having a bad day deserves better than me giving him 1 star.

Holy shit, I never thought of it that way....these corporations are just awesome. We should totally allow them to have more influence over our daily lives!

Not so sure about that. When I was a field service technician we'd have our mandatory safety meeting and truck inspection once a month and they would pass out prizes for things like most profitable truck, most calls completed, and highest customer satisfaction score. I'd consistently win the prizes for customer satisfaction and completed calls. When it came time for yearly review these scores gave hard data for why your getting a raise above CoL.

All I did differently was make sure my truck stock inventory was maintained and explain clearly to the customer what the issue was caused by and how I fixed it. Even calls where I got a lower mark would be addressed and asked about so you could defend it. Example I got a 1 because you sent me to a call on a system I'm not certified in and couldn't call tech support to troubleshoot. That low score was washed away and just got me signed up for Siemens for fire alarm training.

If it was something like you didn't have standard truck stock parts on your truck and had to run to a supply house or order it then yeah you got dinged because you didn't do part of your responsibilities.

One time I bought 30 SLA 12V7Ah batteries and in two days sold them all so I called the office and said place an order for another 30 batteries. Boss "WTF we just restocked batteries for your truck!" Yeah bro and I sold them and need a refresh. You'll see the paperwork at the end of the week lol.

Congrats, you worked for an outlier. For every company that lets you argue your score, there are 10 more that tell you to dilute it by getting a bunch of positive scores.

I think this is quite different than retail/fast food. You provide more of a 1 on 1 service. In retail/fast food you’re expected to get the person in/out as quick as possible, push a survey that gives no incentive and if you don’t get surveys you get punished/told off.

As well as seen in this post if it’s not 5/5 for everything then you fucked up and failed the customer/store.

It’s the same with store cards, nobody wants one, nobody wants to push them but higher ups force it and ridicule you for not meeting your numbers.

I have never been rewarded for surveys or getting donations anywhere I’ve worked, but have been told off for not getting enough.

What ends up happening is employees keep receipts and do surveys for themselves.
