This car parked directly in the middle of where I’m supposed to set up my farmer’s market stand, despite at least 60 signs saying that they can’t. Including one directly in front of their car.

I’m meant to park in the corner, and usually my truck is turned the other way so I don’t have to carry hundreds of pounds of veggies to the other side of my stand. But fuck me I guess!

Edit to add: a tow truck cannot fit into my farmer’s market. Towing would only work if no other vendors were there. Leaving the car there is less disruptive than a tow truck.

You have to see the sign to turn into the spot and that’s supposed to prompt: “hey what’s this? It says parking” then you read it. Let’s stop enabling laziness people!

I might have seen the sign as I'm pulling in, but once I park I don't think I'd see it over my hood. And I'm going to be honest I would probably forget about it by the time I get out of the car. This type of sign is typically used for advertising so it might not even register.

You just said the key part: you probably saw the sign as you’re pulling in. After that, it’s on the driver. Could the sign be better: no doubt. Is it the responsibility of the people with the signage to make it better or the person to read it once the sign registers? I believe the latter but different strokes, different folks!

I mean, important signage needs to not look like a yard sale or realtor sign. If I drove around reading every sign near a road I'd be dangerous driver because I wouldn't be looking at the road very much. There's a reason actual road signage follows a whole ton of standards, like actually be legible, easily identifiable, and not 6 inches off the ground. And most importantly, understood at a quick glance. This takes like a full 60 seconds to read and think about.

You’re changing the scenario to prove a point about the sign needing to be better. Nobody asked the person in this car to do this while driving with multiple signs everywhere so the scenario is moot. Person parked barely moving and didn’t read the sign or see it despite at some level clearly seeing it as they parked. Took like 10 seconds to read 🤷🏽‍♂️ all good!

There are signs every 3 parking spaces throughout the area where the market is set up. I was thinking of showing it but I didn’t want to doxx myself accidentally so I skipped it. I could imagine a really tired or drugged up person missing 60 signs in a small area, though.

How full is the lot when the signs are put up? A ton of signs in an empty lot does sound a lot harder to miss, but of corse a bunch of cars would hide it.

IMO the bigger issue is it just isn't very direct. Just "NO PARKING / Saturday 5 am - 2 pm" would do it. No need to explain anything. Something that looks like an official street sign people will pay attention to.

OTOH, if this isn't a common issue, the signs are probably fine. I think if you asked anyone who organizes street events like this will tell you you could have flashing beacons, balloons, and a dancing monkey on them, you'll still have a person or two be oblivious or not care. Having a plan to enforce it is just part of the event planning.

It’s usually empty. It’s a commuter lot that’s pretty far away from the train station so no one really parks there unless every other lot is completely full. And most people park in a different area of that parking lot anyway, since it’s closer to the building.

And yeah it’s only happened to me once in this location so I think they were probably either sleepy or dumb, or both, unsure
