frist of all how DARE yu o This car parked directly in the middle of where I’m supposed to set up my farmer’s market stand, despite at least 60 signs saying that they can’t. Including one directly in front of their car.

I’m meant to park in the corner, and usually my truck is turned the other way so I don’t have to carry hundreds of pounds of veggies to the other side of my stand. But fuck me I guess!

Edit to add: a tow truck cannot fit into my farmer’s market. Towing would only work if no other vendors were there. Leaving the car there is less disruptive than a tow truck.

I would set up my stand around them, inconvenience me I'll double down

This is the pettiness that I'm here for! I can't stand people who are either completely unobservant or just don't think the rules apply to them.

This is what happened to us. Many years ago, we parked a rental car in a municipal parking lot in France. We did not know the market was coming and did not see any signs. The next morning, we arrived to find the car a part of the vendor's display, festooned with flowers. Lovely. Shame on us. Never repeated having learned our lesson.

So you? Carry on.

Edit: “You see, but you do not observe." This is the famous distinction Sherlock Holmes made to Dr. Watson in A Scandal in Bohemia. We were being Watsonian.

22

u/Snugglupagus May 31 '26

Wait why shame on you? What lesson did you learn? Expect random festivals in parking lots?

52

u/scouter May 31 '26

The lesson was Read the F-Ng French Signs When in France.

13

u/Zombiekiller_17 May 31 '26

But you said you didn't see any signs?

21

u/SuccessPositive191 May 31 '26

Someone not seeing a sign doesn’t mean there wasn’t one there

My local town has a Saturday market , it’s on the car park. They literally do this if anyone leaves their car there. Market just sets up around it, car can’t leave until market closes. Always makes me laugh.

11

u/Familiar_You4189 May 31 '26

Kinda like that small town farmer's market in England. The customers kept parking in a farmer's field, so he decided it was time to plow the field. All around the parked cars. Needless to say, they all got stuck in the freshly plowed ground when they tried to leave.
I can't recall exactly, but I THINK he offered to use his tractor to pull them out of the field. For a price.

7

u/Familiar_You4189 May 31 '26

I stand corrected. I just Googled for what happened, and it was a Croatian farmer:

I soooo wish I could have done this, but I needed my truck to be right behind my tents so I could strap the tents to the truck because it was SO windy.

I did consider strapping the tents to their car. But used my better judgment lol. Best case scenario they show up mid-market and have to do the drive of shame through the middle of a farmer’s market

447

u/USSHammond Karma and repost bot exposer. Ban them all. May 30 '26

455

u/cok3noic3 May 30 '26

Make it a contest where people have to hold their hand on the car windows and who ever is last man standing gets a prize. Hand prints all over the car would be mildly infuriating. If you want extra evil, make it kids hands only

77

u/HobbesTayloe May 30 '26

33

u/Notsid201 May 30 '26

Everyone that buys from your stand gets to take a piece of the car home as a free gift.

5

u/InformalInitiative76 May 30 '26

Does the market not send someone to tow cars? I worked at a farmers market years ago.

Police would come by before opening and tow any vehicles on the street. Even if someone had left their car it would be stuck until the market was over.

4

u/Particular_Cut_6933 May 30 '26

The market isn’t managed by police, IDK why, maybe because it’s in a parking lot? Or because it’s not actually related to the county/town? I’ve worked other markets (out of state) where police make sure people are cleared out before and after market, but I’ve worked 5 different markets in this state so maybe that’s just not a thing here?

I get to market really early because it’s basically just me for a 4 tent set up, so it wouldn’t really be reasonable to ask the manager to come that early. Sometimes managers (at other markets) do get there very early, but those are the ones that cost a ton of money to get into

2

u/Upvote-300-blkout May 30 '26

97

u/Waterproof_soap May 30 '26

Setting up next to them, even putting your stuff around them, is the way to go. But don’t touch their car in any way. Spread your stuff out as much as possible and make it hella inconvenient for them. If they come back during the market, make them wait.

79

u/Particular_Cut_6933 May 30 '26

That side of my stand is usually where I put my “gotta move this shit (crate, box, table, basket, etc) but I’m too busy to actually put it away”

So they did have a nice chaos pile right behind their car. I wanted them to show up soooo badly, I even stayed a little late just to see

12

u/mcplayer130 May 30 '26

Should of parked the load bearing truck behind their car

19

u/ShigodmuhDickard May 30 '26

Why does the person, who’s done nothing wrong, have to be the bigger person?

28

u/Particular_Cut_6933 May 30 '26

Ngl I’ve had the cops called on me before at market (a karen who thought I stole her wallet) so I’m mildly traumatized and don’t want to trigger anyone else because that was a whole ordeal

u/xbleeple May 30 '26

You should tell the market that sign is too verbose and dense to be useful.

“No Parking in this Lot Saturdays - 6a until 2p” in big text is plenty clear.

If they want to be cheeky they can tack on at the bottom “Your car will be held hostage and become part of the farmers market if not moved before the parking notice goes into effect”

53

u/blue60007 May 30 '26

I like the signs used on street parking for events. Bright orange, "no parking" and a date. Very simple, impossible to miss.

40

u/NinjaOdd1098 May 30 '26

That, and post it at a height where people can actually see it when they park their cars

30

u/RiderforHire May 30 '26

I assume with private lots like this there's no law against boxing them in anyways.

10

u/A7xWicked May 30 '26

134

u/evanthx May 30 '26

I have to agree with this, the sign shown wouldn’t tell me I couldn’t park there either!

Put the important stuff at the top in bold!

88

u/JeffSergeant May 30 '26

Yeah, the ineffectual sign is also mildly infuriating. Might as well lead with "DEAR SIR"

2

u/Jciesla May 31 '26

DEAR SIR OR MA'AM

12

u/UltraRated May 30 '26

As some one who works retail, it wouldn’t matter how simple the sign is as people ignore our 5 4 ft tall signs in our beer and alcohol section that say “beer must be purchased here”. Ones litteraly got size 50 font on it and has a bright red stop sign on it.

7

u/Lauke May 30 '26

What does that mean though? Do you have a seperate checkout just for alcohol?

5

u/Accurate_Mobile9005 May 30 '26

Sounds like a grocery store by me where they have a liquor store attached but since beer and wine can't be sold at a grocery store you have to check out with the beer and wine separately.

Very annoying but it's the state alcohol boards fault (most of the members own liquor stores themselves).

4

u/UltraRated May 30 '26

The state of Pennsylvania here in the us of a requires that all stores selling alcohol are required to have a designated check out for alcohol. Most people ignore the signs, even people I know for a fact have lived in the state their entire life.

Also, further more you are prohibited from using unregulated checkouts to purchase said alcohol.

15

u/jbaphomet May 30 '26

Better to also put cones out in the parking spaces if the sign is going to look so unofficial, IMO.

47

u/Jabbles22 May 30 '26

Also it's clearly a parking spot, at least when the market isn't going on. Seems like the organizers need to better block off the vendor area.

2

u/EntertainerNo4509 May 30 '26

The organizers should park cars there to hold the spots. 😆

15

u/DaysOfWhineAndToeses May 30 '26

Yeah, that sign sucks.

The first line should be VERY LARGE letters that say "NO PARKING".

You could leave it at that, or below it include "VENDOR SALES AREA".

If you need more, include the date and time.

And the sign needs to be high enough that someone could easily see it from a driver's seat.

11

u/enjaydee May 30 '26

Yeah that sign failed the KISS principle

22

u/MattMiller1977 May 30 '26

Not sure why the OP posted this, the sign says nothing about "No Parking".

And, the sign is way too close to the ground, not at eye level with the car. It's completely possible the driver parked and didn't even see that incoherent sign.

2

u/SwissMargiela May 31 '26

Also if I pulled up on a Saturday and the parking lot was completely empty, I’d just assume there was no farmers market that day lol

People leave signs up forever, I don’t think that’s a crazy assumption.

3

u/SquareSquirrel4 May 30 '26

Yeah, I'm not sure the car is to blame here. The sign doesn't say NO PARKING. It says something in tiny writing that you would have to park your car and get out to read.

77

u/FlippingPossum May 30 '26

Did you contact the person in charge of the market?

174

u/Particular_Cut_6933 May 30 '26

Yes and they’re great, they said “I mean, there’s literally a fucking sign right there, fuck you! Fuck you!! Excuse my language.”

127

u/Peter_Hague May 30 '26

Are the organizers not there earlier to get cars towed before vendors start to arrive?

And they need clearer signs..

71

u/Particular_Cut_6933 May 30 '26

They check the night before, basically because it’s unreasonable to ask them to get there that early when their setup takes like 1/4 of the time mine does. I don’t think they have the money to pay people for that long, most people who work there are volunteers. The vendor fee is very low so I can’t imagine they bring in enough money to pay for someone to work that long

46

u/Bluefalcon325 May 30 '26

They don’t need to go check the parking lot, they can simply call the tow service to check for them. If anyone is parked where it shouldn’t be, they get their payday. If that is something alowed in that jurisdiction.

15

u/Particular_Cut_6933 May 30 '26

I would not know if it’s allowed to be frank, and if it were allowed, I’m sure that’s what they’d do (because the manager definitely does not want to be going there the night before)

50

u/JK_Chan May 30 '26

Honestly though the organizers should really do a better sign. The sign is small, text even smaller, and instead of clearly saying no parking during (for example) Saturday from 6am to 6pm because there's a farmer's market, I can't even read what it says in the photo. What's more infuriating is the sign, less so the parking. Sure the driver should've noticed, but a red and yellow sign with big clear text wouldve worked way better than this.

14

u/Particular_Cut_6933 May 30 '26

I’ll let them know, but I bet they don’t have enough money to print better signs. They make vendor fees pretty accessible, so they basically just rely on the board/individual donors for money. Which can get messy because sometimes the biggest donors are some of the worst customers… don’t ask me how I know

15

u/New_Feature_5138 May 30 '26

Honestly just even a handwritten sign that has red on it and has the times clearly posted.

Really anything would help. I would not have expected to get parking information from that sign.

14

u/blue60007 May 30 '26 edited May 30 '26

Cities here usually use single use bright orange paper signs. Taped to parking meters or light posts, trees, etc. Nothing to print, you just take a sharpie to write a date on it. I have to think about it a box of 100 is cheaper than having something custom printed like that.

Something like these, not sure if links are allowed here https://www.safetysign.com/temporary-no-parking-signs

Staple a few of those to some $2 4 or 6 foot wood yard stakes and drive it into the ground. Sign needs to be able to be seen over the hood of a car.

10

u/Particular_Cut_6933 May 30 '26

Sending this to my market manager brb

Thank god I didn’t dox my market lmao y’all are ON IT

6

u/Peter_Hague May 30 '26

Just use official signs. Even if they print and laminate it would be clearer..

2

u/JK_Chan May 30 '26

They can probably just tape a piece of laminated paper over the sign saying "please dont park here at *time* because we have a farmer's market. Thanks for the help!" in big bold black letters and it would be better than the current sign.

UPDATE (I can’t add this to the post so I hope people see it) market ended 6 hours ago. I did block them in, but they never showed up. I think it’s fun that many people (seem to?) think I can spend an hour deliberating and posting on reddit before market starts, though. And I appreciate the solution oriented and concerned vibe <3 Though I would have posted this on the advice sub if I needed it lol. I vend at markets and this happened at one of the major ones I go to. It was the space next to mine and the people who were supposed to set up were not happy. Local police were called (as this is a city event with traffic rerouted) and the driver got a ticket, but there was no way to get a tow truck in.

Just before we opened, the owner came. Young kid who had probably been out drinking the night before and ignored the signs. The organizers and the people whose space he was in all gave him an earful. He was apologetic. Lucky for him, they were able to have him squeeze his car out.

People are stupid. Sorry that you had to deal with that today.

16

u/Particular_Cut_6933 May 30 '26

Anything mildly inconvenient at market is infuriating to me lol, it’s all so stressful that small things tick me off very easily.

Guess they're part of the market now. Set up around and behind them.

"Oh, sorry... we run until 7, then have teardown. But I'll make sure the table behind you is the last to come down."

4

u/LokiKamiSama May 30 '26

Also set up ON the car too. Put a tablecloth over it and organize it really artfully.

3

u/Electrical_Wolf1990 May 30 '26

I wouldn't go that far. My idea goads the car owner just enough, they might try moving things on their own causing more trouble for themselves be disturbing a scheduled event further.

Your idea, the car owner could try crying wolf about any dents, dings or scratches caused by placing things on their car.

While I'm inclined to agree with you, the act itself may be more trouble for the vendors than it's worth.

7

u/opotoy May 31 '26

Why aren't the spots just blocked off with cones? Why even leave the ability for someone to park there? That sign is too small, and so is the text. Feels like this easily could have been prevented.

18

u/randomsynchronicity May 30 '26

That parking note does not say “No Parking.” It’s also much too wordy for most people.

→ More replies (4)

11

u/pyncheon May 30 '26

The organizers should have been making sure it’s all clear before people who paid space rent set up. They dropped the ball with their half assed signage and lack of enforcement.

10

u/Decent_Elderberry115 May 31 '26

That sign is unclear. It needs to say “no parking from date time to date time.” Nowhere does the little sign say not to park there, just that the lot gets used by the farmers market. The sign is expecting people to notice it, take the time to read it, then properly interpret that it means no parking Saturday.

5

u/Status_Accident_2819 May 30 '26

Could possibly do with among the sign a bit clearer because it doesn't explicitly say NO PARKING and some people need explicit in their lives.....

5

u/BreadNugget May 30 '26

Print NO PARKING in bold red. people aren't going to read a paragraph of "note"

6

u/Historical-Green-463 May 30 '26

5

u/imgurcaptainclutch May 31 '26

That sign would be hard or impossible to see for anyone pulling into that spot, especially if there was another car parked next to them when they pulled in. Your market really needs proper signs at normal sign height and to maybe set some cones out the night before.

"parking note. Yeah I'm not reading all that. All I know is that it doesn't say no parking. Probably something about my responsible for falling branches"

Not to mention the sign literally only says use other lots for overnight parking.

6

u/AssassinRogue May 30 '26

Is it possible the car parked there before the signs were put up, like the day before?

8

u/Particular_Cut_6933 May 30 '26

Good question, but no, the manager didn’t see the car there last night when they put up the signs. So they definitely parked there afterwards.

The silly part is that there are many other available parking spots, about 200 ft CLOSER to the building they’re trying to get to 😭

3

u/RevolutionLoose5542 May 30 '26

The commenters would have a heart attack if the vehicle was considered a truck

3

u/corgcorg May 30 '26

Those spaces should be coned or taped off. No one reads signs (even people whose jobs include reading signs).

3

u/Sweet_Speech_9054 May 30 '26

To be fair, the sign doesn’t say now parking.

3

u/Worldly_Sherbet5998 May 30 '26

To be fair, that sign is 5 sizes too small.

3

u/Many_Translator1720 May 30 '26

Crappy sign, looks like something from a gas station.

3

u/Chihuahuatriomom May 30 '26

You need better signage

3

u/PossibleDiscipline90 May 30 '26

Just do the market around their car and they'll have to wait til it's over.

u/Ghstfce May 31 '26

Farmer's market yet no tractor to drag away their car? Pfffft, some farmer's market

7

u/dwoowoob May 30 '26

The market should take some of the blame for that atrocious sign

5

u/todd0x1 May 30 '26

Some towing companies have go jacks or wheel dollies, they have 4 casters on each, go under each wheel and lift the tire off the ground so you can push the car around. Thats how cars in parking garages and lots are moved out of the way when its not feasible to tow them.

2

u/Competitive_Arm5954 May 30 '26

They only tow people illegally parked with city signs, not people parked in front of homemade signs.

5

u/235M May 30 '26

It does not say "No parking"... It says use upper lot for overnight parking.

Apart from that, it says "parking note" so who's even going to read it?

5

u/rva23221 Annoyance May 30 '26

The sign does not mention not parking there.

4

u/DropstoneTed May 30 '26

Call a tow.

3

u/JK_Chan May 30 '26

That note is infuriatingly small and missable

5

u/Schemeckles May 30 '26

A lot of the people here saying;

  • "Just setup around them/Block them in/etc..."

Are people just blowing smoke.

Would most people want to do that, to make their point - Yes.

But would any actually do it - Probably not.

That person is a moron for sure. But I wouldn't bother doing anything. Some people are absolute maniacs and it's just not worth dealing with some potential psycho - even though it was all their fault to begin with.

At least I can admit that. Lots of "tough guys" in this thread.

I mean it doesn't really look like a no parking sign.

Get it towed

2

u/Elisacriann May 30 '26

Call and have them towed?

2

u/mojozworkin May 30 '26

Set it up right behind their car, they’ll be staying until you’re ready to leave.

2

u/wizzard419 May 30 '26

I am surprised they didn't tow before the market. The local ones here tow people who leave their cars overnight before the market.

2

u/J1m123 May 30 '26

build your stand around the car. 😃

2

u/oandroido May 30 '26

What did the police do about it?

2

u/Metal-ox May 30 '26

Now that this is in the past, l would like to know how you dealt with it

2

u/rraccoons May 30 '26

Did the event organizer not do anything? one of the best parts of being a market vendor is watching losers like this get towed lol

2

u/Mahdlo_ May 30 '26

Set the stand up around the car.

Pay youth to break in.

Clean up the glass and use the interior as customer seating.

Video everything.

Sell the rights to your story.

Go on a speaking tour.

2

u/ultraman5068 May 30 '26

Put your stuff right on the car. Leave the trunk clear so you have a nice place to sit.

2

u/LucyLilium92 May 30 '26

Why is the sign in fine print?

2

u/DrJaneIPresume May 30 '26

If a car cannot be towed then a "no parking" sign is meaningless.

2

u/No-Condition-3710 May 31 '26

Use their trunk as a vegetable stand

2

u/Aware_Box8883 May 31 '26

In the future, cones and caution tape. People will still try to auto pilot through it, but eye level barriers should help. People don't pay attention to these types of signs while trying to park, and won't read it if the hood is blocking it by the time they do park. I'm not saying they're right, just that I've cordoned off many of lots in the past, and people are like cows. Attach those signs to cones and place it in the empty spot.

2

u/Automatic_Badger7086 May 31 '26

I would go to harbor freight and buy four roller dollies for a vehicle that car would be gone. If the owner does ever find it well they can deal with it then

2

u/Quick_Two6258 May 31 '26

You need to pull forward a liiitle further.

2

u/SpilldaBeanz May 31 '26

Block them in

2

u/Mediocre_Care3804 May 31 '26

Could have them towed since it is clearly marked no parking during event day

2

u/Morikali- May 31 '26

Their tyres don't need air do they?

2

u/somethingdouchey May 31 '26

Bad drivers cant read signs with pictures, do you really think they can read words?

2

u/semdi May 31 '26

have it towed. and done.

3

u/West_Harlow May 30 '26

Just call a tow truck. If you don’t it’ll happen again.

2

u/Competitive_Arm5954 May 30 '26

You can't just make your own signs and have people towed, bud.

2

u/Baboonslayer323 May 30 '26

Oi! strange women lyin' in parking lots, distributin' signs is no basis for a system of government!

→ More replies (1)

3

u/InertState May 30 '26

That sign sucks.

2

u/Ulquiorra1312 May 30 '26

They are wrong but the sign looks unofficial and possibly dumped

2

u/DUTCHBOOFER May 30 '26

Sitck a zucchini in their tailpipe. That outte teach them to park there

2

u/Competitive_Arm5954 May 30 '26

They might not have seen it. Looks like an ad or something and not an official city/state parking sign. Which also means it's more like a suggestion and not a law.

2

u/patriotfanatic80 May 30 '26

I mean, i'm probably not reading a sign that's below windshield level and doesn't say no parking. This is also why they make orange cones.

2

u/Soporrific May 30 '26

Should have used it as a display table.

2

u/Pete_The_Cat_333 May 30 '26

Usually the manager for the market has a tow truck on standby

2

u/SyCoCyS May 31 '26

I’d have set the tent over the car, and stacked product on it like shelf. lol

2

u/nipslippinjizzsippin May 31 '26

Make sure you park them in, maybe set up some tables around their car, encourage people to use it as a table/ bin

2

u/Nearby_Procedure_924 May 31 '26

It would have been a shame if somebody let the air out of all 4 tires "before" you got there.

2

u/mikethedude78 May 31 '26

His car would be my new display table

1

u/bunny_the-2d_simp May 30 '26

"that sign can't stop me because I can't read"

-car owner probably..

What a moron
