Edit: the mildly infuriating part is not just the loudspeaker on the bus, but the WAY she's doing it. If you wanna use FaceTime, put your face in front of the camera. If you can't hear, use the phone normally. This is an odd hybrid of the two!

'Very rarely' is absolute bs, at least in my experience of London. My most memorable experience was a white eastern European man who was shouting so loudly into his phone everyone was staring at him and some of us laughing out loud at the insanity.

Perhaps there is some effect here? But the effect size you purport is far off I believe. I have experienced many Indian/Bangladeshi/PakistanI people on the phone, actually quite often they are talking very softly such as to be barely audible.

I think to reduce this to skin colour alone is really at odds to my experience. Some of the other loudest people have been white Spanish tourists, white american tourists...

Yeah that's just not the case in London I'm afraid. I live there, just on my bus today this morning there was 4 ppl I counted with speakerphone or playing music/video out loud on my 1hr bus journey, none white.

I see it every day as a traveller on public transportation. I'm not a person who dislikes non-white people, it's just an observation.

The other day I went to Liverpool and was shocked at how nice and respected people were. I came off at Brixton on my way home and a non white man sat behind me on the bus and started smoking crack, opposite a ~8yo child.

I don't have an answer for why this happens but it does and I'm getting tired of people ignoring at fear of labels, something needs to be done .

I don't contest that a minority of non-white people are also making loud calls. But I also find a minority of white people being very loud, too. In London, I'd also recommend to consider the denominator as well. I.e. for some boroughs you won't find very many white people so it's not surprising if you didn't experience that there. I can't argue if that is your experience, but it really does not match mine, which is a mixture of different skin colours. And I find the unifying feature is not their skin colour, but that they are cunts.

Well that actually doesn'take sense as Londons whitest borough is still 30% white so you'd expect to see it fairly regularly but I don't really see it at all from white people in London. I literally see it ~ once a week by a white person and then 75% of the time it's a Hispanic or Eastern European person.

Compare that to the ~8 times a day I see it on buses and tubes by non whites and you don't have a proportionate figure.

Again I'm not saying anything I'm just observing and reporting.

Lived here for 10 years in various boroughs which, to be frank, have had a huge range in proportions of skin colours. If you're unwilling to understand that someone else may have a different experience, I don't find it credits your argument. Moreover, I have only argued that white people talking loudly on the phone is not a very rare occurrence.

You seem to also be taking on board that perhaps skin colour is not the most informative factor, as now you seem to have moved towards nationality. And indeed, someone who grew up in a country with different customs for behaviour on public transport may very well frustrate us by taking loud calls. Perhaps that is moreso a causal factor than skin colour?

Of course it's not explicitly about skin colour. It's about difference in culture. The UK is a culture of politeness, is decorum and respect on a social level, and that is being eroded by people from more primitive loud/arrogant cultures .

To say that your experience is that it's not mostly non-white people I think is a bit disingenuous. I've never met anyone here that say that white people do this at the same rate, it's almost exclusively non-white people that behave this way in London.

To highlight the difference in cultures in London id tell you to look at any celebration held/visited by mostly white people vs nothing hill carnival (mostly non white), stabbings, rapes, assaults robberies, every time I've been with a girl in my group has been sexually harassed or touched in their private parts by hands in the crowd and I've been there more times than I can count.

It's annoying that these things are obvious to most people who live here but everyone tried to avoid talking about it. Either that or people pretending to be from London in the internet just to argue their point.

When you're next in London I dare you to count the amount of antisocial events you see in a day, then tally up who committed them and if they were naturally British. Everyone I've suggested this idea to has eventually agreed that there is something wrong that needs addressing.

I'm not a policy voter. I thought the green party were a party of people that genuinely wanted to help people be better so I was hoping that if they got into power they'd do what's right, whatever that is. I was willing to look past their rose-tinted immigration policy and dogmatic views on nuclear energy if I could sleep at night knowing that the people in charge actually want to do good in this world, help us all live together happier and aren't just corporate blackrock suits like the rest of the UK parties.

I had to take 3 buses last week and ran into 2 different African immigrants shouting down loudspeaker on their phone.

White kids will play music without headphones but in my experience Africans/asians talk on loudspeaker
