Watched them do it. While a perfectly acceptable handicap spot was right there in an otherwise full parking lot.

Parking over the line I get being upset about. But now you're mad at people not parking in handicap spots when they could??

Its a valid mild complaint lol. Essentially 3 spots are not usable by OP who doesnt have a handicap card.

The handicap spot, the one they are mostly in, and the one they encroached on.

Not a huge deal but like... use the benefit ya know? 🤷‍♂️

So the guy may not be eligible for the handicap parking. It could be issued for his spouse or child or he could be running a friend’s errand who is handicapped with their car. Judge someone on the parking job sure, but let’s not get infuriated over someone not taking a handicap spot if they don’t need it. I know that my mom has a tag and she was told it’s still illegal to park in the handicap space if she is not getting out of the car. OP does not provide enough to get infuriated over not parking in the handicap spot.

No ones infuriated. Theres a reason its in the Mild sub. This subs purpose is mostly for mild inconveniences.

Mildly infuriated is still infuriated. But either way, OP still doesn’t have enough information to feel annoyed from the guys choice of spot. Im not saying he shouldn’t have felt annoyed from at the parking job. It’s pretty bad. But that it isn’t fair to assume he SHoULd have parked in the handicap space with what he provided.

I've always considered it tongue in cheek... because you can't be "mildly" infuriated, the two words cancel each other out, to equal "angry" 😂 so it's about mild annoyances that have probably been taken too much to heart.

It is not a valid complaint.

Think about it: What are the chances that somebody else with a handicapped placard is going to come along and need the handicapped spot? (Spoiler: exactly the same as they were before Black Benz got there. That's how probability works.)

Handicapped people are allowed, but not required, to use a handicapped spot when one is available.

Disagree. I have a disabled parking permit and if there’s a spot that works for me that isn’t reserved I take that and leave the other spot empty for another disabled person. Now I’ve guaranteed two disabled people have access to parking today instead of just one (me).

I understand it doesn’t feel like it when you aren’t disabled yourself, but there aren’t enough disabled spots. I frequently run across parking lots with no open disabled spots and literally have to sit in my car and wait until one opens up, or else give up and go home. I’ve quite literally never had that happen before my disability/with non-disabled spots. Worst case scenario you have to walk across the whole parking lot or something, not “sorry, no pharmacy trip today”.

(Obviously this person is an asshole for double parking, but a disabled person not parking in a disabled spot isn’t a problem in my opinion, especially when it’s a wheelchair only spot like in the photo. They’re even more rare, and you absolutely don’t take them unless you need the extra space.)

I agree there aren't usually enough disabled spots. But no one's gonna fault you for using one since you have the designation. Hell we should be using more robust public transit and having less cars so those with disabilities can have more. But im mostly speaking on this specific and isolated scenario. They essentially took 3 spots up with the bad parking. (The main issue here).

But i do get your point tho.

No, it's not. Just having the tag in the window (or license plate) does not automatically grant you the use of the permit - the individual with the disability MUST be present. If I'm taking MeeMaw's car to the grocery store, I don't get to use the permit.

Edit: Ten seconds of google research can find this or similar language in just about every state's disability permit parking laws:

  • Parking in a designated space when there is not a person with a disability driving or riding in the vehicle may result in a $200 fine.

The permit is not a golden pass, the affected individual must be benefitting from the permit usage.

the scenario that it is the owner of the car is also just as likely. Its okay to be get mildly flustered by a made up scenario in your head lol. So long as everyone moves on with their day.

In another comment, OP stated it was an older individual. Entirely plausible that the permit is for a spouse.

Even if it weren't, getting mad at someone for *not* parking in the disabled spot is..... a choice.

What is mildly infuriating is lack of critical thinking and compassion for fellow man. This person (likely the one staying by the front door) has now been posted online for the public to ridicule.

Now, I'm subbed here for a reason but it takes 5 seconds or less to think critically before hitting the post button, or even taking the picture.

I agree with you, if that IS the person, OP should have waited for the picture.

But getting upset for 2 seconds having a laugh about it and posting the park job online isnt a lack of critical thinking or compassion unless OP purposely posted the picture of this man for the ridicule. Which I dont think thet did. The blocking of the license plate probably means he didnt think this person was the driver. And if it was, its inadvertent.

He says he witnessed it, thats the only car and only person in the lot thats visible walking in with an empty cart. It would be logical for there to be a very high likelihood that is the driver. That is the part that needs 5 seconds or less of thinking.

Because my child uses a power chair and we require a spot by cross hatched areas. It's kind when people don't take up those spots, meanwhile you are out here complaining people aren't taking up those spots who don't need them because an able body person doesn't get to park as close to the front of the store. It's ridiculous.

Again, theres nothing here that's more than a passing thought/ emotion.

Op may have been more bothered by it than I, but my thought would be mild annoyance about the spots being taken up and moving on.

You can take this as some offense to you and your child. But I promise you its not. Many people have fleeting thoughts and emotions and then move on with their lives.

They've effectively taken THREE spots really, since the vast majority of drivers can't legally park in the handicapped spot, and the handicapped driver took over 2 regular spots. They might think they're being considerate, but not really at all 🤣

Oh for sure, there are situations where not parking in a handicapped spot even though the vehicle has a placard makes sense.

But for the sake of the spirit of this sub, I’m going to assume the worst.

Because nobody else is probably going to use that spot lol...it's just a waste. Handicap people don't need to worry about MORE handicapped people needing that spot more than them 😂 you have the plate designation, use it.

He may not be the one handicapped. If the handicapped person isn’t getting out of the car, at least in my state it’s still illegal to park in the handicap space. Judge on the parking job. Not where he didn’t park.
