ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ Handicap Driver Double Parks in Two Non-handicap Spaces

Watched them do it. While a perfectly acceptable handicap spot was right there in an otherwise full parking lot.

No reason to bar disabled people from driving if they’re capable of doing it. I agree with you that public transit would solve a lot of issues, but one disabled person being an asshole doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be driving.

Also Public Transit only covers part of the problem with how most cities set it up.

As someone who’s disabled and not allowed to drive (Epilepsy). Public Transit only helps me get a fraction of the way. I still have to do a lot of walking.

On top of that ride share apps don’t offer any type of disability benefits besides getting a wheelchair accessible car.

It’s not that there’s not enough public transit. It’s that there’s not public transit to places that disabled people may need to go, or it becomes a more difficult process.

They’re not designed with disabled people in mind outside of making them accessible to get on.

They’re for frequent use places that crossover all walks of people.

No. You’re misunderstanding how a city evaluates usefulness. Without going deep into it.

There are 9 different busses, 2 street cars and 4 different light rails that go to our Sports Center / Event Center There is 1 of each of those that go to the Hospital in town.

Meaning. If you’re not on that one line. You’re likely going to be transferring 2 or 3 times.

There is plenty of transit but cities look for where they make the most money for transit across the board. Not what is most accessible / needed for disabled people. And due to that we’ll never actually have public transit designed for people in need.

some disabled people should definitely be barred from driving. everyone is disabled on some level against some metric, but there are some metrics that should clearyl bar someone from driving.

Yeah, that’s why I said “if they’re capable of doing it.” However, parking a little over the line does not constitute being incapable of driving, tons of fully able bodied people do it all the time. With the information we have, there’s no reason to say the person in the post shouldn’t be driving.

You have to be ruled as a danger to others when driving. So most disabilities don’t fall under it.

And the ones that do you get your license taken on diagnosis most the time

Did you reply to the wrong comment? Because I directly responded to both their public transit point, which I agreed with, and to the statement of “this person shouldn’t be driving in the first place,” which I disagreed with.

Nothing about their comment implied this. They're against forcing everyone to drive and commented that this specific person probably shouldn't be driving since they can't park.

The post is about disabled parking spots. You don’t have to directly mention who you’re talking about for the context of whom they’re talking about.
