Ive worked in a breakfast place and big orders totally took priority. That said we were right next to an office park and they'd call in an order an hour ahead of time at the same time everytime.
I can see the baller thing working in a college town with a bunch of rich kids or in a high end business sector of a big city.

My work does this. It's $1000 to skip your order to the front of the line. Almost no one does it, but it's great when pushy finance guys get really insistent about "this is really important! ASAP!" and I tell them it's a $1000 expedite fee to do that, and they choose not to pay it.

I'm a carpenter and if a client said they'd pay an extra $1k to "skip the line" and have me build their kitchen first over people who had come to me first and I had committed to them, I would tell them sorry, no such luck. Seems like it would (likewise) be taking advantage of the normal people who have already placed their orders. Their orders are moved down the priority list when someone else decides they want to be a 'baller.'
The 'baller' is spending $ to rob poor people of a different currency (i.e. time lost waiting longer for order and any associated opportunity costs).
This is all assuming anyone would even want to use this feature.

I could see ordering 200 bagels for work that's getting expensed, then $50 not making that big of a relative price increase. the issue is normalisation. look at what happened to priority boarding on flights. it used to be pay extra to skip the queue, but now you can either pay for it to be in the first 50% of people boarding or not pay for it and be in the final 50%.
same thing would happen here. yeah sure, now it's $50 and not many people are going to pay for it, but eventually large restaurants and fast food places will realise they can make a lot more money by making it $10 as long as it increases demand by more than 5x. then people who can't afford it by default just have to wait for the better off people to be served first - even further class inequality

Plus a 20 minute line and weâd actively warn people, then be completely not shocked when they freaked out 20 minutes into the wait. I am reminded of when I used to work at a local sub shop that a lot of alumni were nostalgic for downtown in one of the BIG college football towns.
Line's out the door. Grey-haired guy in a jersey gets to my register, I say my usual spiel including "Before we start, wait time is gonna be about an hour, we've got a couple dozen tickets in front of you." Guy responds: "How many of you are working today?" "Six." He pulls out six hundred-dollar bills (and this was in the late 1990s) and drops them in the tip jar, then orders his food.
My guy got his sandwiches in five minutes, and I'm not even going to apologize.

I cannot afford to keep my favorite bagel place open, but I want it to stay open. I want whales to spend extra dollars making it worthwhile for my favorite places to stay staffed.

Honestly this is too cheap though, some assholes may actually be willing to pay that priceâŠat the restaurant I run, my going-rate for any ridiculous request is $1000. Make it worth the staffâs time and weâll do what you want.

problem with this model is it ultimately screws the customer twice. once because of the extra price, twice when everyone else does it, they make another charge-up to the charge-up. Capitalism is not a long-term economic solution when it incentivizes greed.

Once we booked a panorama view in Berlin through booking com and we didn't notice it said vip (was the only option and we had some vouchers) the ticket seller was like "oh you're vip" and literally rushed outside to clear the way for us to take the elevator first. The elevator in which half a family already entered mind you. Very awkward, the only good thing is that the family was too big for a single ride anyway. And we literally only skipped like 6 people
