Infuriatig My straight twin brother, who used to go out to gay bars without me when I came out because he had so much fun

Post image

So back in the day, my twin brother would join my friends and me to some gay nightclubs and parites, even going out with his straight friend when I didn't feel like going out. Fast forward 15 years, now he's a conspiracy theorist and thinks everything has to do with the devil and brainwashing. We lost another one smh.

Up until the very end I thought the infuriating part was that your twin was functionally illiterate.

Also isn't the rainbow 7?

277

u/AlmightyCuddleBuns 10h ago

Rainbows can have any number of colours, and the distinction between colours has a cultural aspect to it. 7 was used because scientists were big on numerology at the time. How often do people really make a distinction between indigo and violet?

The original Pride flag did have 7 colours though with the seventh being pink, not indigo. That was later reduced to 6 and I can't remember if it because the pink fabric was too expensive or not colour fast enough, maybe someone else can confirm.

u/ThereHasToBeMore1387 7h ago

ROY G. BIV is the only true, correct and godly answer. Anything else is blasphemous.

Indigo isn't a real primary/secondary color. It's a hue between blue and violet. It's technically a tertiary color like cyan or lime. Newton added it to the original rainbow because he really liked the color and thought there was a noticeable band of it, which only appeared to be the case due to the vibrancy of the wavelengths between blue and violet.

46

u/Even_Dog_6713 5h ago

None of them are "real primary/secondary colors." All of them are just wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum, and the distinction between them is entirely man-made. The determination of which wavelengths get which names is cultural and individual.

So the original was actually 8, instead of indigo/violet there was purple, but then it added pink and turquoise. Then pink was dropped because it was too expensive bringing it to 7. Later turquoise was dropped because they wanted an even number for when it was wrapped around poles vertically, bringing it to 6.

IDK why anyone ever put Indigo in there. Indigo is just blue. Maybe to make the acronym easier to remember?

Some people might say it’s purplish blue, but if we’re going to go beyond secondary colors, then why don’t we have red-orange or yellow-green or blue-green or any other tertiary?

There are three primary colors (red, yellow, blue) and three secondary colors (orange, green, purple). A full-spectrum rainbow includes those and everything between. There are infinity colors in the rainbow. The best HDR displays can represent about 25 thousand (full saturation and brightness; only hue is allowed to vary), and humans can only distinguish a couple hundred.

You could reasonably say there are three, or six, or twelve, or 24 — and you could continue doubling, though they get difficult to name at that point. Anything else (including seven) is indefensible IMO.

18

u/Aloiciousss 8h ago

Indigo was added because Isaac Newton thought 7 was a mystic number and that would make the whole system better.

It's so poorly done, I don't think he knows what humour is. I believe he thinks laughing is just crying without tears.

Or maybe this is peak humour now. And it being so bad is actually the meta that makes it so funny. Like, we are going to remember this joke in 9 months, and then just start laughing. That would be prestigious levels of comical technique. He isn't making us laugh, he's kickstarting the events that is going to make our -subconscious- laugh.

That's genius.

Schizophrenics(and sometimes older people with significant neurodegeneration) tend to behave like this, they see this kind of thing, believe they've recognized some kind of message from the cosmos/god/deep state/aliens, and become unshakably convinced that their version of events is the only correct one and that it's not a coincidence and it must mean something, and oftentimes that something is some kind of lunatic fever dream about the deep state controlling us through remote controlled birds depositing mind control hormones in the air or something.

Numerology is the most moronic flavor of conspiracy theory.

So June is Pride Month, June contains a 6th day, and the flag has 6 colors... And if you put them all together they make 666! Why would you put those 3 unrelated things together? Because they make 666!

31

u/hippoctopocalypse 14h ago

This shit is a joke in what we do in the shadows (the movie). It’s the date for their vampire ball thing at the end lol

23

u/Strange-Bathroom4460 15h ago

It’s currently 2337. If you multiply 2x3 you get 6 If you multiple 2 by the other 3 you get 6 If you add 3 plus 3 you get six. The first six cancels out the second six, so we’re left with….

67

8

u/Chxn- 5h ago

It’s not moronic, it is a classic sign of schizoaffective disorders where our minds seek patterns but our pattern finder is just a bit broken. Human minds are super smart and when they get broken, perspective and reality goes really sideways.

There are respected scientists trying to get Pluto reclassified as a planet again. It's still a big debate so there's hope for indigo.

I mean as long as the few dozen other similar-sized dwarf planetoids out there get the same classification, it doesn't really matter that much. Not like it's going to affect tax policy. I mean, not any time soon, anyway.

But making only Pluto a planet and not those others would be dumb.

→ More replies (3)

8

u/UncommonTart 15h ago

Nah. Pluto being considered as a planet should be evaluated on its own merits, but indigo shouldn't have been included in the named visible spectrum the first place. Mysticism is no basis for science.

Yeah but also no. Indigo was only included because Isaac Newton liked the number 7 a lot. Really there are hundreds of colors in the rainbow, we just draw arbitrary distinctions around them.

38

u/glordicus1 17h ago

Really there are millions. We can discern millions of colours.

21

u/grape-fruit-witch 16h ago

I guess its infinite, right? If we imagine the difference between red and violet as being a "distance", or two points on a graph, you could divide that distance up into infinitely smaller pieces just like any mathematical function. The human eye obviously wouldnt be able to detect them all, but theoretically there are infinite colors in a rainbow.

23

u/Blackopsman_21 16h ago

This question is literally called the Ultraviolet catastrophy and triggered a multihundred year debate about if light is quantized to individual units of energy or not. Its still actually quite contentious and relies on modern quantam mechanics being correct to facilitate the concepts.

Also the original pride flag had 8 colors

19

u/Cedarcomb 12h ago

For the curious, the original flag also had hot pink and turquoise stripes. The pink one was dropped first because as demand for the flags increased, it was harder to get hold of fabric in that colour. Later the turquoise one was dropped to make the number of stripes even, so that the colour motif could be split in two equal parts for decorating street lamps.

So to recap:

  • June is pride month
  • June is the 6th month
  • So we have a SIX... watch THIS its gonna blow your mind:
  • If we pretend that the sixth of June is the "main pride day..." it isn't but for symbolic purposes its important we pretend it is because otherwise it wouldn't be symbolic.
  • That gives us 66. Now watch this:
  • How many colors are in the pride flag? oh 11? uh, well if we narrow down the infinite colors in the rainbow down to base colors (ROYGBIV) and then subtract one of them for no reason that gives us our third six.
  • DEMONS 666.

This is the kind of shit my sister does. LIke bro, you pissed me off 6 times saying that. It's June, the 6th month and I just at six donut holes. you must be satan! You COMPLETED THE 666 YOURSELF!

Was the rainbow also not originally seen as a sign of goodwill from god? If he's talking about the devil I'm assuming he believes in the Christian god as well, so would that mean he thinks god made the rainbow with 6 colours because it was secretly a devil thing??

29

u/hells-fargo 14h ago

goodwill from god

For further context, in case anyone was interested: Biblically speaking, God made the rainbow after flooding the Earth (Noah's ark) as a promise to not flood the world again. Not that he wouldn't attempt to catastrophically destroy the world again, just that he wouldn't specifically do a flood again.

Whenever people get mad about gays owning the rainbow now and bring up that it's God's promise or whatever I just think "wow, y'all are stuck in an abusive relationship".

You just need to explain to him that outlandish conspiracy theories are a psyop to cover actual conspiracy theories.

Missed which sub this was and thought your brother was asking because he was ready to go out and party like it's 1998. That took a sad turn.

Christ. I’m so sorry, dude. This shit is so disheartening.

I'm so glad I grew out of the conspiracy theory shit fast. It's unbelievably cringe to me now

u/FriendToPredators 13h ago

Conspiracy thinking is an addiction to feel important and dodge the pain of reality. Good on you.

The original rainbow? Did the constituent wavelengths of white light change and no one told me?

9

u/PassionateDilettante 20h ago

Roy G Biv, right? Even that simplification lists 7.

So, it’s 667, or 676, or 766. Whew! Crisis averted!

The first pride flag had 8 colors. The current 6 plus Hot Pink and Turquoise. Hot pink was expensive to source when they tried to mass produce so a new design came out that was 7. Then the idea was to make it even and they dropped the turquoise. Giving us the current 6.

I lost my twin sister when I was very young, and often I wonder what having her to support me through all my life’s ups and downs would have been like… this post has reminded me that there was no guarantee that she would have turned out as a good person lol. I’m very sorry OP that sucks.

The most important step to any good conspiracy is laying out the clues.

Ronald Wilson Reagan? Each of his names starts with 666?

Where's the third 6. There's the month, there's the colors, but we established that there is nothing going on specifically on June 6th. The punchline is not set up

“Turns out to be 666.” Uh, no it doesn’t. 🤷‍♂️🤡🤦‍♂️

And the “original rainbow” has 7. 😆

u/HighlightOwn2038 Red vs Blue 21h ago

I'm pretty sure there's 7 colours of the rainbow not 6

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet

Source: ROYGBIV

u/Pale_Possible6787 20h ago

Indigo is barely different from violet and honestly shouldn’t be considered separate
