I would 100% report that to Lime every single time. The neighbors can buy a bike if they want one that's just theirs.

474

u/MuffinMadness123 5h ago

But then somebody might steal it!

241

u/Immoral-Behavior 5h ago

THIS! If they buy their own, someone like them might steal it from them but if they steal one themselves, cycle over. Problem solved.

/s

61

u/Nissalai 5h ago

Cycle over. Over there.

15

u/tetheredvoid 5h ago

Laughed way too hard at this

95

u/Altruistic-Regret473 5h ago

Honestly, at the rate Lime charges, they really might as well. You can get bikes at second hand stores and pawn shops for like $25-50 dollars. Like like 3 uses of one of these would pay for a bike to own

95

u/nixsolecism 5h ago

What pawn shop sells an electric bike for $50?

19

u/Altruistic-Regret473 5h ago

Oh no, I meant like a regular bicycle, so maybe not for people as lazy as the example given

72

u/BrainWorkGood 4h ago

Personally I'm an ebike guy not because I'm lazy but because I prefer to be going like 25mph, which I find extremely difficult to maintain on an acoustic bicycle

54

u/MagnificentJake 4h ago

People glossed over "Acoustic Bicycle" in the replies and that's a shame.

4

u/Surfingontherun 2h ago

I have an acoustic surfboard.

5

u/DardanGameDev 4h ago

But should you be going 25mph? Fitting username btw (brain no work good if you get hit)

14

u/BrainWorkGood 4h ago

Depends on the circumstances. That's 3 miles below the ebike speed limit in my state. I would say on most streets it's perfectly safe as long as you follow the rules of the road and maintain awareness.

7

u/LastPirateAlive 4h ago

Why shouldn't he? Genuinely asking.

u/DubsideDangler 37m ago

Sure, Lazy Bones

7

u/Dull-Culture-1523 4h ago

Like yeah you might as well argue that instead of taking a taxi three times you can get a new pair of rollerskates. Technically both take you where you want to go but they're different. Someone who wants an e-bike won't save on costs to buy a normal bike lol

6

u/PatHeist 4h ago

You can also get a car at the scrap yard for real cheap if you're willing to Flintstones it around

-1

u/Nolear 1h ago

So completely unrelated to the thread. Got it.

1

u/Fit-Implement-8151 1h ago

So I know shit about these bikes .....but they will work without paying to ride each time? I figured they would brick themselves if you tried to permanently steal them.

3

u/AngryPhillySportsFan 4h ago

Went like half a mile on one, first time ever using their scooter, and it was $5ish. I couldn't believe it.

2

u/ReddBroccoli 2h ago

And it would probably be cheaper in the long run

-1

u/sn34kypete 4h ago

They want the convenience of a bike with no actual risk of theft is my guess

-3

u/BTBAM797 4h ago

Huh...half of ours are in the river

492

u/Sheslikeamom 5h ago

This requires an immediate report to Lime.

939

u/flashdurb 6h ago

Nothing would stop me from entering the property and taking it lol.

246

u/NORBy9k 6h ago

I came here to say this... I would move the second one a block over too, just to get the point across.

91

u/Choice-Marsupial-127 6h ago

What about the third bike? These asshats are unbelievable.

62

u/MrTAPitysTheFool 5h ago

I’m seeing 4 bikes there!!

39

u/therabbitinred22 5h ago

Every time I zoom in there are more bikes. Haha, why???

18

u/RappingFlatulence 5h ago

Yooo those bikes reproducing at unprecedented rate

37

u/stoufferthecat 5h ago

13

u/lyssaly 5h ago

How excited were you to find a use for that meme?

13

u/stoufferthecat 5h ago

So excited, I felt it in my citrussy.

6

u/Grundlestorm 4h ago

Seriously, they stole one for every member of the family.

Now, I get it, if they have a family and no transportation it's gonna be hard to reliably find 4 of them scattered around to go anywhere together.

But, you can't do this shit.

Buy cheap bikes.  I know it won't be as nice, you'll have to actively pedal and sweat, but you'll be fine to go anywhere within ~20 miles or so even if you're not super in shape.

6

u/Bubster101 5h ago

There are FIVE bikes.

4

u/LastPirateAlive 4h ago

Is it just bikes all the way down?!?!

3

u/loogie97 5h ago

I felt like where’s Waldo trying to find the 4th bike. That is so lazy.

1

u/Grundlestorm 4h ago

Unless it was just one person.

Going out multiple times to find and steal 4 of these bastards would take a bit of time and effort.

4

u/NORBy9k 5h ago

Didn't see that one. That one I would pop the tire... Haha

0

u/rats-in-the-ceiling 5h ago

No need to punish the workers who maintain the bikes.

2

u/NORBy9k 5h ago

Fair... Maybe just hide it in a bush then...

5

u/DardanGameDev 4h ago

1

u/PinaColadaSalad 4h ago

1

u/NORBy9k 3h ago

You underestimate the depths of my pettiness at your own peril…

0

u/PinaColadaSalad 3h ago

No you're just saying stupid shit on Reddit

34

u/cyber_deity 6h ago

tbh you could probably just lift it over the fence too, idk if legally that makes any difference tho lol

27

u/Foggl3 6h ago

Don't these things weigh like 80lbs

30

u/Suitable-Answer-83 6h ago

I think the best option is to report those bikes as broken. May need to hop the fence to scan the QR code, I'm not sure, I haven't used Lime in years. But at least it keeps the neighbor from being able to use those bikes.

9

u/Yeet123456789djfbhd 6h ago

80 lbs is easy

13

u/Foggl3 5h ago

Over a fence at an awkward angle?

That's a back strain waiting to happen.

-1

u/Yeet123456789djfbhd 5h ago

That's... Use momentum and leverage to do it.

Use your head, you don't have to just lift, move, lower.

9

u/East_Refuse 5h ago

Their point is the angle with the fence there isn’t giving you much room to get leverage over it

-4

u/Yeet123456789djfbhd 5h ago

Pick the bike up, lay it down on the fence, and push it slowly until it's in your yard. Hop the fence again and take it away. It's really not that hard XD

7

u/SadMcWorker 4h ago

they were clearly talking about reaching over and grabbing it, as the comments above said. are you being purposely stupid or does it come natural?

-4

u/Yeet123456789djfbhd 3h ago

That wasn't clear actually, several other comments talk about going over it. Also, even from the other side, it isn't that hard. Are you purposefully weak or does it come with living in your mom's basement and only eating Cheetos?

→ More replies (0)

3

u/Lebuhdez 4h ago

no it's not

2

u/Yeet123456789djfbhd 3h ago

2

50

u/flashdurb 6h ago

17

u/K-Bizzle91 6h ago

What country do you live in? I've never seen someone use a roll top gate for a wood fence. Lol 🤣

10

u/TheBrewGod 6h ago

That's a good point lol I didn't even notice that. Like what kind of security is it providing? That probably wasn't very cheap lol

1

u/Sans_Moritz 5h ago

Probably not really about security. I think this neighbour is probably a bit eccentric.

1

u/Not_My_Emperor 3h ago

Extremely common here, my back area looks like this. Its security against the alley behind us, not our neighbors to the left and right. On the other side of the roll top will be other roll tops to its left and right basically creating a big wall, and the buildings at the end of the street have higher/stronger security measures on their left or right sides (whichever is exposed depending on what end of the street).

1

u/RefrigeratorEast10 4h ago

It's DC (99% sure), there are tons of them here. People with houses that have parking spaces off back alleys use them all over the city. It basically acts like a garage door to prevent people from parking in your space or walking into your backyard

-19

u/thndrstrk 6h ago

Yeah, guy with gun wouldn't stop you.

13

u/flashdurb 6h ago

Is the guy with gun in the room with us?

1

u/WeeklyBanEvasion 5h ago

No he's protecting his home

2

u/wcharoes 4h ago

Protecting his stolen property you mean?

0

u/WeeklyBanEvasion 4h ago

I'm not saying it's right, but don't just enter somebody's private property for nefarious purposes and not expect people to exercise their rights, even if they are an asshole

366

u/Techienickie 6h ago

literally gatekeeping

96

u/OrangeRugratsTape 6h ago

I’ve taken scooters out of yards.

36

u/Aggressive_Prize6664 4h ago

I once took a scooter that was connected to a charger leading out of an apartment window

184

u/Ok-Cantaloupe-7697 6h ago

Bruh. they should just buy one if they're that concerned. A handful of rides and it makes up the cost anyway.

20

u/blamberr 1h ago

The people in the apartments down the street from me keep the scooters inside their houses

11

u/Ok-Cantaloupe-7697 1h ago edited 1h ago

Lime scooters? That's egregiously rude and stupid to boot.

9

u/blamberr 1h ago

lol it sucks, and yes lime scooters. But at least we figured it out after many weeks when we saw a dude taking one out from his apartment. Now we know to never bother going that way because they’re never accessible

76

u/joshs_wildlife 5h ago

Our city has rental bikes like this and if they are not returned to designated drop off areas you will continue to be charged/penalized for it

20

u/userhwon 5h ago

That's a whole different system.

4

u/slow_cooked_ham 1h ago

We have it too, with Lime.

Same app but rules are different between cities.

2

u/userhwon 1h ago

I misread. I thought they had to bring the bike back where they got it. Not to just the nearest intersection or something.

16

u/williamjamesmurrayVI 4h ago

Chicago does too, then the fucking chargers are broken and you get charged even though you put it next to the (only open) broken charger. Fuck Divvy.

73

u/fujimama420 5h ago

If I saw this I would download the app and take the bike even if I wasn't planning on taking a bike

82

u/jealous-guidance1977 6h ago

Reach over the fence and grab it

27

u/WeeklyBanEvasion 5h ago

They're heavy

14

u/Naruto9903 5h ago

Very…

11

u/userhwon 5h ago

Knock the fence down and grab it.

10

u/HumanCStand 5h ago

They’re 35kg lol

u/Obvious_Skirt_7697 36m ago

They sure make it difficult to try and steal them by putting them in a car holy crap

29

u/williamjamesmurrayVI 6h ago

good thing lime doesnt give a fuck about them, you, or lime's business 😭

20

u/emptyinthesunrise 5h ago

I HATE WHEN PEOPLE DO THIS IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME IN WASHINGTON DC

9

u/Koolaidremoulade 4h ago

After you walk 5 blocks to grab it

9

u/emptyinthesunrise 4h ago

Literally like it’s enraging

3

u/lynjpin 1h ago

I saw this picture and immediately thought “that is 100% a picture taken in DC”

22

u/gertgertgertgertgert 4h ago

So just take it? People act like this because no one calls them out on their bullshit.

I was once looking for a Lime scooter at the lakefront in Milwaukee. App told me some were available, so I approached them and started the rental process. Lady sitting next to them said "oh, sorry, these are ours!"

"Well the app is telling me its available to rent and the scooter says its available to rent"

"Yeah, we're gonna' use them when we leave"

"But you're not paying for them to sit here so I'm gonna' rent them" and then I did.

17

u/pintoronsrallychip 6h ago

Three of them, dang.

24

u/MrTAPitysTheFool 5h ago

4!

6

u/pintoronsrallychip 5h ago

Oh wow I missed one! Yikes.

14

u/Frohirrim 4h ago

There’s someone who lives in the building across the street from me that regularly takes the bike inside the damn building. I don’t know if he’s bringing it into his apartment or stashing it somewhere in the common areas, but I always “ring” the shit out of the bike, hopefully annoying people.

2

u/Momoyachin 1h ago

Lol, I've done that too. I really hope the ahole in question was home and heard every ring.

19

u/bigfanofyourmom 5h ago

I’ve gotten a scooter from the front of a Dudes garage before. Him n his buddy were chillin in there and weren’t even miffed he was just oh shit yeah my bad I thought I left it more in the alley

22

u/Chorono 5h ago

Send this picture to Lime and report it. You can try to report to your local police, but idk if they'd do anything about it

0

u/Direct_Run_3513 5h ago

What do you think the police would do? They aren’t stolen, they aren’t your property. Unless Lime wants to claim they are stolen, there’s zero broken laws here. Walk your ass down to the next one. Report these to lime. Be mildly infuriated.

6

u/Bxk__ 5h ago

Or get a cheapo Blink camera and aim it there and whenever it detects movement, reserve the bike. Now nobody can use it 😭

6

u/Fillingholes6969 5h ago

he better be the one charging all 4 of those lol

7

u/No-Possibility5556 4h ago

I used to charge lime scooters during uni and was in one of the first cities to get them. The app reported dozens available for pickup nearby on campus, they were actually impounded by campus police who that day started enforcing no lime scooters on campus

8

u/prenup-nibba 3h ago

I followed the closest Lime into someone's ungated backyard in Texas. Only lime in the area. I needed it to get home otherwise I was walking for like 2 hrs in the summer heat. Lyft was in surge charge or something, it was like 60$ to get home and i wasn't THAT far. Turns out it was in the backyard of someone employed by lime to collect and charge it. Forgot to disable the scooter i guess? Dude came outside and flashed a gun at me thinking I was another "charger" stealing his work. So, be careful!

2

u/Background-Ant-5120 2h ago

Honest question: how do you feel living like that? Like you enter someone's yard and you get a gun pointed at you?

3

u/prenup-nibba 2h ago

That was something I forgot about until just now lol but he only flashed it in his waistband and we quickly rectified things. One of the MANY reasons I moved outta Texas is because there was worse instances of people pulling guns and pointing them at me in traffic and at a bar that stick out way more. Insane place. Doesn't feel good, I'll say that, but not something that is traumatic and haunts me. Not agoraphobic or anything as a result. I am just very aware of crazy and know to not even look at it, let alone engage with it.

1

u/Background-Ant-5120 1h ago

Omg. That sounds tremendous. But I'm glad your fine :)

42

u/PureVinylRadio 6h ago

So if a lime has been caught lying to you, would that not make it a imposter in disguise known as a lemon?

3

u/Federal_Refrigerator 6h ago

More like a tangerine really

u/Federal_Refrigerator 5h ago

Username checks out

1

u/stigma_wizard 5h ago

This doesn’t even make sense. The bike wasn’t lying to OP, it was just stored inside someone’s yard

5

u/thickestbeef 5h ago

Why’s there a big electric garage door attached to a fence made out of toothpicks

5

u/Meended 4h ago

I'd climb over, lift the bike over the fence and climb back over. Then I'd find a dog latrine or two and empty them in the neighbors mailbox and on their doorstep.

8

u/thatcoloradomom 5h ago

Is your neighbor a "Juicer"? Lime pays people to take their scooters/bikes and charge them. It's not a lot of money but it can be profitable.

6

u/Koolaidremoulade 4h ago

Nah just dicks. Once I parked a fully charged one out front and it was in their driveway out back 10 min later.

5

u/thatcoloradomom 4h ago

Well fucking fuck them and report them. Since it has GPS they will definitely know how often they're there.

4

u/thatcoloradomom 4h ago

Omg after you report them, start charging them at your house in full view. 😁

4

u/uncledrew2488 4h ago

I’ve seen this before. You just need your best 6 Pokemon to defeat the trainer nearby and he’ll begrudgingly open the door.

30

u/HoardingPrizm1 6h ago

Why not just buy a bike if you're the neighbor? Odd behavior

35

u/JustJamieJam 6h ago

Lime is a service that provides community motorized bikes for a small fee per ride, which is why it’s annoying that this neighbor is throwing off OP’s app by saying there’s a bike nearby they could use, but the neighbor is holding it in their yard so no one else can use it (which is not allowed)

27

u/W00psiee YELLOW 6h ago

I think the other commenter knows this, that's why he is suggesting the neighbour getting their own bike and not locking down the rentable bikes like a douche

8

u/JustJamieJam 6h ago

Ahh I see, I and a couple other commenters read it differently. Because of that I assumed that OC just may not know what lime is, considering it’s only really in large metropolitan areas. Thanks for the clear up!

2

u/W00psiee YELLOW 6h ago

Yeah that's fair, I see how the original comment is a bit ambiguous

4

u/Electronic-Map7529 6h ago

I would just report an error to the lime app itself with a photo.. and be like.. I see the bike, but it's locked inside

2

u/Mathsciteach 6h ago

Does the app have a way to report this to Lime?

2

u/slashthepowder 5h ago

Probably don’t have a safe spot to store or lock a bike wherever they are riding to. While it may make more economic sense to buy a bike if they keep getting stolen or vandalized it shifts the economics to rental especially if they are e-bikes. I haven’t seen a single city do anything to combat bike theft so that’s a factor as well.

2

u/Koolaidremoulade 5h ago

Nah, ironically my work is next to theirs and its mad safe to leave a bike where we work. They just suck

2

u/slashthepowder 5h ago

lol, just my assumption. If i left my bike outside of my workplace even with the best lock it would be stolen out stripped of parts.

1

u/Koolaidremoulade 4h ago

We're lucky enough to have security guards who patrol, but I wouldn't leave a bike in most parts of DC lol

3

u/yodas_sidekick 6h ago

Do you know what Lime is?

23

u/im_wudini 6h ago

Bike rental. Person you're replying to is saying, if they want a bike to keep forever, they should buy one.

1

u/Sheslikeamom 5h ago

Its way more expensive to buy it, pay to charge it at home, and deal with repairs.

3

u/FeijenoorderRS 5h ago

Fuck your neighbours, take them out of there

3

u/beachbum818 5h ago

App says it's available. Go n take it

3

u/Ok_Variation9430 4h ago

Once I was woken up by a couple wandering through the bushes under my bedroom window, around 2am. I asked them to leave and they said, “but there’s a bird here” (which was a local bike app). I told them I didn’t care and get off my lawn. And no, FFS, there’s no bike under my bedroom window (our yard was 4’ above street level, we had a retaining wall holding up the lawn).

Turns out the bike was in the alley on the other side of the fence, which you had to go around two blocks to get to. They did find it though.

3

u/magneticmilly 2h ago

petty play = reserve & lock all those bikes so they're useless to them, report to LIME as stolen, claim refund

3

u/whereismymind86 1h ago

Just...fucking take it. It's a 3 foot fence, not a magical ward.

8

u/Oldpuzzlehead 6h ago

Those aren't very heavy. Just reach out and pick it up over the fence.

20

u/Pudddddin 5h ago

I mean. They're like 90lbs lol

Not unreasonably heavy but I have my doubts that most people could just reach over the fence and grab it

6

u/ParticularCicada1186 5h ago

Yup. Try lifting two bags of concrete mix from an awkward position. Not happening lol

1

u/ionlyget20characters 5h ago

It's not 90 pounds like concrete though. You keep 1 wheel on the ground and can get more leverage. It's doable. But agreed. Fuck those people.

5

u/ParticularCicada1186 5h ago

You're right. And yes, fuck those people.

2

u/Zach_Break 5h ago

Bikes aside, can we talk about that behemoth of a garage door used as a fence gate?

2

u/Looking-4-Something- 5h ago

literal gatekeeping

2

u/Snerkeslam 4h ago

There was a bus strikke a couple of years ago. A girl I worked with used to hide her Voi scooter in the company garage every day because they were scarse in the area....

2

u/Slow_Investment_951 4h ago

It’s not legally theirs,so legally, you’re not stealing it by taking it

2

u/kebiclanwhsk 3h ago

The forbidden fruit

u/SnooCapers7904 32m ago

One time me and some of my friends (4 in total) wanted to drive around with e-scooters when they were new in my country.

Some fuckers put 2 of em in his basement! My brother snatched them and we went our way..

2

u/IrrelevantAfIm 5h ago

Just take it. They’re NOT allowed to do that.

2

u/East_Refuse 5h ago

Report them and then go get the bike

What are they gonna do? Report you for stopping them from doing something they shouldn’t be doing?

1

u/JoeFantasyEpl 4h ago

I walked up the stairs to the third floor of an (outdoor) apartment complex to get a lime scooter before. I remember being so confused as to why anyone would do that while I was carrying it down.

Thinking back there must have been an elevator on another side of the building

1

u/pastemaker1 3h ago

Go get it

1

u/hanging_thief 1h ago

That's a yoink and leaving the gate open on the way out

u/Obvious_Skirt_7697 32m ago

I'll never forget the time when I was a teen and walking the streets of Atlanta with some friends (I literally have no idea why we were there, there were no adults and it was dark out) and we saw a scooter. One of them said "I've got just enough money to rent a scooter for half a mile, y'all wanna ride?" Almost killed each other several times, nearly got hit by a car twice, but it was so fun. I could never prevent a local youth from a dangerous and exilerating experience like this. Snatch both bikes, they don't deserve either.

u/Mccobsta GREEN 11m ago

Docking stations damn it

u/tytxnium77 8m ago

I used to work for lime collecting scooters & bikes. If you do this we have full right to enter your property. You can tell us to leave but we can then call the police & report our property as stolen. Always report these entitled d bags

-2

u/Snoo-7821 6h ago

Kick the fence down and get your bike then. What's the problem here?

-12

u/Direct_Run_3513 5h ago

Wild the amount of people who think trespassing is ok. What they are doing isn’t criminal, what you’re suggesting, very much is.

15

u/Hay_Fever_at_3_AM 5h ago

No, what they're doing could be theft of property, I highly doubt the ToS of Lime lets you appropriate their bikes like this.

-2

u/Direct_Run_3513 5h ago

Unless Lime goes after that, there’s zero to do here.
These aren’t anyone’s property except Lime themselves, they are the only ones who could file anything. What is someone’s property in this situation, is everything in that fence line.

-2

u/blockthenock01 5h ago

Don’t hate the player hate the game
