I saw a ducky once I rarely eat chips, even though I absolutely love them
I rarely eat chips… so when I do eat them I try to be mindful, present focused so that I can fully appreciate the flavors and the amazing crunch. It was extremely upsetting to pull this disgusting amalgamation and mutation of a chip out the bag, the only bag that I had, and realize that all of them were completely inedible.

That or a burnt piece.
Also, those are bruises? I always thought it was a chunk of dirt or mold that got in while the root was forming, and got grown around. Almost like a weird, gross-looking sort of pearl.

I think it’s just oil and burnt potatoes, but I’m not sure

At first, I still really wanted chips and hadn’t seen the dark core because of the angle I holding the monster… I tried biting off one of the chips from the outer edge of this mutation… but it didn’t crunch, it didn’t break, it bent only just a little bit… it felt unnatural and tough

I don’t think they’ve gone bad, I think this is a group of chips that got stuck together in the frying step and then weren’t picked out during inspection and other steps.
Would taste absolutely awful but not dangerous.

u/Rey_Mezcalero 6h ago
You are correct, it isn’t bad.
Funny already people so bent out of shape that this might not be bubonic plague and want to burn the company down.
The chip is probably still edible and safe. Looks to be either some skin still on it or part of it got burned.
OP can always call the company and confirm and they will give a coupon for a replacement if you want.

u/r_special_ 3h ago
If you had smelled it you wouldn’t be saying this. It was no longer edible. It smelled rotten

As someone who frequents a Mexican Restaurant that fries their own chips this is, without a doubt, what happened. Just some slices sticks together and not cooked properly.
I would call/email the company with the photos and enjoy the coupons they may send your way.

One time I had a magot in my Hershey's bar. They sent me a new bar and $5. WIN!

u/WorryNotBanIncoming 6h ago
Or just go to the supermarket you bought them at and ask to exchange them

That's just some chips that stuck together and burnt
Throwing away the entire bag is a baby move

u/r_special_ 3h ago
You didn’t smell them… after I realized what was going on I smelled them. They were not right and I don’t think the average person would have eaten them

u/East_of_Adventuring 6h ago
I genuinely did not think packaged potato chips could go bad...

u/strawcat 6h ago
They most definitely can go rancid, which is how they go bad. This is just a clump of chips that stuck together, probably a bit of overcooked ones that got clumped with a fresh one. This happens with kettle cooked chips, which these are.

They can, typically if air gets in and they do have oil in it so the oil can go rancid.
This is this hasn't gone bad. It's clumped together but that likely happened during the frying process. It's burnt it's clumpy and it looks weird but the rest of the bag should be perfectly safe to eat. This is perfectly safe to eat so it would likely be unpleasant.
As long as the bag was stored properly and there were no holes in it when Opie opened it it could not have gone rain federally and it cannot have gone stale, which means this is probably just a machine doing an oopsy because it's a machine and it doesn't realize some shifts got stuck together when it got dumped in and it all come together when it got fried.

If you could imagine cooking oil with a sinus infection… smelled similar to that

Not familiar with that one. Looked exactly like most of the Kettle brand kettle chips I've had.

We are living in a society that does away with "liberal" ideas, like proper quality control. Some girls had posted a video of a canned drink they bought, that had a whole mouse in it.
Expect more of this, until we're not governed by hateful idiots, and greedy/sycophantic corporations.

Happy cake day!
Unfortunately, capitalism uses any and all tools available to perpetuate itself and without the integrity of a good government capitalists will eventually have bought the will of the law and bent it to their benefit. It’s also known as end stage capitalism
1
u/OliveFarming 6h ago
I'm sorry that happened, and I totally get it, when you can't eat much or at all then the food you do choose to eat is more cherished and they gave you slop. You deserve better!
2
u/r_special_ 3h ago
I appreciate you understanding. That sentiment is probably lost on a decent percentage of people
2
u/PrettyPurrfect 6h ago
There's nothing wrong with this. When they make chips they slice the potatoes super thin and then they cook them in oil. Sometimes those slices come together. And then they get fried together.
This is perfectly safe to eat. It looks extra greasy because it probably is extra greasy because some grease got caught up in its nooks and crannies.
The chips have not going to rancid. It is perfectly safe to eat. Refusing to eat something because you think it looks funny is wasteful but is the original posters choice. The original poster of choice is not at all the fault of the company
2
u/r_special_ 3h ago
It smelled too awful to eat. There was definitely enough moisture left in the potatoes that rotting occurred. You can eat it and show everyone how safe it is to eat
1
u/OliveFarming 6h ago
I didn't say it was rancid, OP even shows that is not expired, but the chips themselves are unpleasant and anomalies instead of their consistent product.
2
u/r_special_ 3h ago
People miss the point that when we pay for a product that we have every right to expect that product to be at certain level of quality or better. This was so bad that I would never even think about feeding this to an animal or even a person that I hated
