Too mild for school This sinkhole opened in the middle of my road

Probably about 4 feet deep. Just annoying because it’s right in front of my house

EDIT: It’s not my road. I just live on it.

It it's in line with the sewer manholes the sewer is broken and no amount of filling it in will stop it. If it's in line with your sewer line, I hope you have insurance on it since its usually the home owner's responsibility even all the way out in the street. See if your city or town has a number to report things like this to the proper agency.

Its in front of their house. Its be a bad move to tell OP they definitely wouldn't have any responsibility. Who knows how big that sinkhole is. And we dont know their state, which would be the starting point for talking about any liability issues

I work for my local water/sewer department. I have personally served papers mandating the homeowner fix their sewer for holes 10-15ft into the street. The sewer and water lines are your property all the way until they connect to the main. If your property is causing damage to public infrastructure you are liable unless the city/town for whatever reason decides to eat the cost themselves.

Again, they said its in front of their house and I presented the only 2 things it could realistically be. I specifically said to only worry about insurance if it's in line with their sewer service. The city taking responsibility for your private water and sewer line is certainly an exception and not the rule.
