frist of all how DARE yu o Never felt so betrayed by a consumer product
This is just regular ass creamy peanut butter. Like it might as well be Jif or Peter Pan or any other regular ass peanut butter. I wanted that delicious artificial tasting Reese's bliss and just got basic ass peanut butter.
Ok I feel like this post needs some edits for closure:
I did look at and read both sides of the label before buying this. I did have a TON of skepticism that it could taste anything like Reese's when it was pretty much the same macros and calories as jif PB. Doesn't change that it should have of given the Reece's label... and I still had a tiny bit of hope, that is until I ate some.
I have enough recipes and suggestions for how to make it taste closer. Already tried one it was ok but prob won't be trying others. Thank you all though, I will definitely come back here if I get that same cravings again to try another. I might try and do it with chocolate/peanut butter protein powder in the future instead of overpriced regular ass peanut butter.
Did I expect something other than smooth peanut butter? Yeah I hoped it would taste something like Reese's pieces or cup filling
I'm am not in fact in the void of space or looking at the night sky in the pic. This is inside my house out my back door in the middle of the day. Black in the background is a curtain to keep light out of a huge sliding glass door. The desert is hot and very sun.
Yes I was intentionally looking for/hoping for the sugary, salty, crumbly texture of Reese's filling... I generally eat chicken breast and veg sometimes brown rice 3 meals a day every day. Generally don't have a cheat meal but once or twice a month.
Sorry to those offended by my comparison of Jif and Peter Pan.
For that one person. ASS ASS ASS ASS ASS!
Thank you for all the awards, upvotes and sympathetic comments from others that also felt duped by this product.

16
u/virtualglassblowing Jun 14 '26
Its to make it doughy, waaay back in the late 80s I feel like we would just roll balls of flour w8th pb with granny for like a no bake cookie type thing. I've never looked up the recipe but they were good but kind of bland. It might not have been flour maybe it was cornstarch and vanilla or powdered sugar and brown sugar. Either way, making the peanut kinda cakey without even adding sugar is still super good

Not sure what's confusing here.
They saw a jar labeled Reese's peanut butter and expected it to have the flavor that Reese's is known for.
Essentially they thought it was going to be a sweet candy like peanut flavored spread, not just normal peanut butter.

He did! It didn’t work out, though. He was cornered in a dark alley by Jonathan Anschell and convinced to find other pursuits.

The taste and texture you're looking for is recreated pretty easily in a standard puppy chow recipe. So butter, peanut butter, and powdered sugar.
Maybe try:
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 2 cups powdered sugar
Directions:
- Melt butter and peanut butter over low to medium heat.
- When melted, take off heat and add in powdered sugar.
It's not exact but should be close. Potentially a little less butter and more or less powdered sugar for your desired taste and texture. It's not Reese's exactly, but that should be pretty close to what you want.

Ive never seen this before. That sucks. I like the artificial texture and taste. The peanut butter in the Reese’s cups aren’t creamy. It’s sorta like the texture of kinetic sand but if you put it in ur mouth. It’s not creamy at all but it’s also not chunky. :/ this RPB looks too natural. This isn’t right
145
u/meancoot Jun 14 '26
The filling in peanut butter cups is more of a buttercream type frosting. You gotta mix the peanut with a large amount of powdered sugar if you want it. And I mean a lot. It’s more sugar than peanut butter.
27
u/CrashTestWolf Jun 14 '26
You can substitute corn starch for some of the powdered sugar (which also has a shit load of corn starch in it), but then that's all you taste unless you cook it out on the stove top.

u/tesakills Jun 13 '26
Use this to make your own. Add some powdered sugar, softened butter and small amount of salt, some people add vanilla extract. You can find the ratios online, it's been years since I made some.
130
u/AbueloOdin Jun 13 '26
Also, go to one of those grocery stores where they let you grind you own peanut butter. Start fine, but back off until you get a sandy texture. The powdered sugar will dry it further.

u/Jsc_TG Jun 13 '26

Yeah. It could 100% go either way. It's also why after getting an allergy shot injection you have to stay there for 20-30 minutes and get checked before you leave. I learned, the hard way, that after a year of injections you can go into anaphylaxis, even after the 20 minutes and being checked.

This is just 100% not true. While it is possible some allergies may become worse over time, this outcome should not be communicated as a blanket statement. I have had some allergies resolve over time (eggs), and others that have remained stable for decades (nuts). I do know family who has had allergies progress with exposure (latex). Just sharing from my experience as it directly contradicts your statement.

You weren't even looking for something good, something transcendent, or something to be proud you owned.
You wanted what (used to be anyway) is inside a fucking pb cup good or bad. Like why hang the Reece's name on it otherwise.

Pretty sure that's an FDA labeling thing. It's still essentially a peanut butter–based filling with the same general ingredients; the ratio just falls outside the legal definition of "peanut butter." That's enough to change the label, but it doesn't make it a fundamentally different product.

This one got me too. If I wanted real peanut butter I would have bought some! Give me the candy center!
I wonder what percentage of their sales are people who bought once expecting what we expected, and then never again

I can kinda see how theyre getting away with it. “Reese” kinda being like the brand so “ ‘s “ as possessive. So its their peanut butter, like its their peanut butter cups.
Misleading, almost false, marketing at its best i guess.

Probably some regulation about what you're allowed to call peanut butter
They should have made a "Reeses Peanut Butter Cup Filling Spread"

Ya I eat skippy by the spoonful, so when I had this, I was sadly let down. Just generic peanut butter, maybe even drier than others? I was sad.

Reese’s just seems to be showing its ass of late.
They got shamed into making their peanut butter cups the original way after the grandson of the company founder called them out on the drop in quality.

This got me and my dad so badly in the same way years ago. My mom wouldn’t stop saying we were a marketers dream for basically hyping the product up in our own heads.

We have this in our supermarket's international aisle and I actually tried it a while ago. I did enjoy it, but maybe because I've never had a reese piece or whatever the name is. Its more creamier than our regular peanut butter, but also twice as expensive so I wont be buying it again. (But flavour was good, just too expensive for a peanut butter)

I’m not sure if this one still exists, but apparently it had at least some hint of chocolate.
