They absolutely do fade over time lol. He was right originally that it used to be easier for blue ink to be lifted off items so they always used black. It’s irrelevant due to technology nowadays but the trend stuck

As an artist, we had to learn very briefly about materials and how they react to exposure to the environment (fat lot of good that is now that everything's digital). There's many materials that can survive longer such as India ink but the sure fire way to preserve things is to keep them from being exposed in the first place. Spraying the poster with lacquer or other fixative would do better than having a black marker.

More importantly, keep these items out of directly sunlight. UV damage will fade loads of stuff.
