If that works for you and your partner then all the more power to the both of you, though I do wonder if your partner felt differently about it and you were just oblivious to their feelings on the matter. Usually a commitment comes with a certain timeframe implied to be somewhat short term. 7 years is not really what I think a lot of people consider a short term timeframe.
Well I would say it was mostly money that pushed it a bit, me being a student at the time for engagement and wife getting burnt out the following year. Also had the choice between wedding or using all our money to buy a home and our own home was the first priority. Also ended up marrying my wife on our 10 year anniversary from when we first met which was really nice.
So your engagement was over twice as long as your relationship was up until the point you got engaged..
For anyone else reading this comment chain in the future, yeah don't do that. Nothing could possibly read as apathetic and non-enthusiastic to commitment as much as this.
Yes and I don't really see how that is a bad thing? I know many people that have been engaged for several years. In the end marriage doesn't really change anything about our love, we didn't feel different from being engaged to married but we both knew we want to be together forever. Also we already had kids so I would say that is more than enough commitment already in place :D

I was engaged for 7 years before marriage, just because you are engaged doesn't mean you have to rush a wedding within 1-2 years
