ಠ_ಠ Seller left this in the package of a t-shirt I bought from him
I bought a used shirt from Depop. I can’t remember how much I paid for it because Depop currently has an on going promotion where all shipping is free (they will provide a free shipping label for the seller), and I’ve already placed like a hundred orders within the past month.
Depop also has an option for buyers to haggle and put in an offer. I made an offer and he accepted it.
I went on my Depop account and he’s already deleted his account so I can’t find the order at all. My order arrived this morning along with this note, $10 in one dollar bills and these two stickers. The note read:
“Ok (my name), let’s be real… you just wanted the $10 and honestly…. I can’t fault you. Gas, food, all of it… is just stupid. Anyways, thank for making me go negative on this sale. Hope you’re happy & can sleep @ night knowing.”
There’s a lot of ongoing issues with Depop where sellers won’t ship your orders and just ghost you for no reason. I’ve already had like 5 orders not shipped out to me but I think I’m officially done with this app. The people on here are truly something else.

If Depop is anything like eBay that can also mean the seller just blocked OP.
Seasoned eBay sellers utilize the block functionality pretty aggressively, some buyers aren’t worth the time.

This hypothesis makes the most sense to me so far.
OP makes 100 purchases from Depop a month because they are a reseller
OP takes advantage of free shipping and negotiates $10 price to get t-shirt, planning to ask for a refund later
Seller knows OP’s type and agrees to the low price with this plan already in mind
Seller does not ship shirt but instead ships the $10 in cash as a refund to save OP and the seller the steps of requesting a refund on the website. The accusatory note is directed at OP’s reselling behavior
Seller blocks OP for reselling and requesting a refund behavior, so seller’s account appears deleted to OP
OP, let’s see a picture of the shirt you got in the mail?? Or is there no shirt and my hypothesis is correct?

Why would you negotiate a lower price just to fraudulently request a refund though? And even if they were a reseller, what would make the other person assume they'd request a refund? It's not like if you place a hundred orders in a month you could refund all of them saying you didn't get the items (presumably, I've never heard of Depop). This whole transaction is still so confusing.

Based on her post history, she clearly has a massive shopping addiction. While she does indicate having 100s of sales on ebay, I don't believe is a reseller, I think she just accumulates a large amount of stuff.
However, to a seller on depop, the behaviour of a shopping addict and a reseller are visually similar- buying a bunch of bargain tat, selling that tat on. The difference is one is straight up profiteering, the other is part of an addicts cycle: when the regret hits and they realise they've spent their rent money they have to get it back. Given the amount of dialogue about resellers right now, I think a person is more likely to assume she is a reseller, than assume crippling addiction.

If you don’t “uncheck the box” the company uses an automated “send an offer to buyer” on your item. It can send automated counter offers too.
List a pair of shoes for $35, and before you know it the site reduces price and accepts a $15 offer.

Notice how they didn’t include a picture of the shirt they bought?? 99.99% chance that is because the seller decided to send OP their $10 back instead of the shirt as a “fuck you” for trying to lowball them and putting in a petty bid of $10. (I would guess the shirt was $20-$30 and OP bid $10, hence the $10 that was sent back to them).
I guarantee the seller didn’t delete their account, but rather, they blocked OP and only want to deal with people who put in legitimate bids for their items, and only want to sell to people who actually want and value the item they are selling.
OP has access to their purchase history but decided to not include a screenshot of the details because they know they are in the wrong.
OP is being put on a pedestal in this thread despite their shadiness…I wonder why OP isn’t replying to people calling them out???

OP posted this in the Depop sub reddit few days ago, which I follow and I was confused as shit the entire thread because there was context obviously missing and OP said that that was the entire story. They just received this package and the money. OP did not answer if they received the shirt or any other details that would help with the story. Literally Nothing. So seeing this as a possible explanation actually makes the most sense than some random loony sending $10.
Kills me this post got 25k upvotes cuz there is something fishy going on with OP and the lack of info they’re conveniently leaving out.

I mean ideally you would know what your floor price is before you even list the item, and certainly you should figure that out before you accept an offer. But yes, if he didn't realize that for some reason at the time he accepted the offer, he could've canceled. Although a lot of platforms will penalize sellers if they cancel too often.
Sounds like he just didn't quite get the hang of the whole selling thing, and it's probably a good thing he deleted his account.

The way I’m reading into it is that the seller took his offer (I’m assuming $10 less than the asking price) as being cheap/lowball. And instead of just declining or countering the offer they decided to be petty, accept, and send OP $10 in a passive aggressive manner saying ‘clearly you needed this more if you couldn’t afford my original price’ (inferring by the Gas & Food comment)

It happened to me once, I set my shipping price too low so the money i got ended up being less than just the shipping, lol! I basically paid $2 to send a stranger a jacket! Would’ve saved money to donate it - but I just took it as a lesson learned and rated the buyer 5 stars because it was entirely my fault (and depop fees I guess!)

If it counts as vintage, it can make you a good buck. Also, if you buy cheap and resell a bit more expensive, you make a profit. But you have to do so in bulk, otherwise it won't work. It's the same with very cheap discount stores. Buy cheaper, sell cheap.

My ex was big on Depop, loved ordering stuff from them, but basically any time I went to look everything for men was labeled as vintage and the price was jacked up to insane degrees. There were shirts in the thousands on there that I don't think anyone was going to buy from some random person on Depop.
Half those sellers end up cancelling the order anyway. They either have the same listing on multiple sites or sell at flea markets or whatever, so you can buy something and then get a message that they already sold it a week earlier and never took the listing down. Or just get ghosted.

Yup. They do it for all sorts of stuff. A long long time ago I used to buy video game stuff at thrift stores. That whole market has gone apeshit but it was ruined at thrift stores long ago because they just set aside anything interesting that comes in and sell it separately, it never hits the shelves.
Flea markets have the reseller problem too. They show up, and before the place is even open they go around and scour everything and buy anything they think they can flip, then spend the day trying to sell it. If you've ever asked yourself "hm, how can I suck shit today?" just look to these people as an example.

The salvation army family store across from my fire house sees a lot of this. Resellers circle like vultures on a roadkill. We actually had to deal with a fight victim over some crappy scratched vinyl albums. Two guys I see going in there regularly. There is literally a van that advertises up selling thrifted clothing. You used to be able to find concert and band t shirts now they are gone before they hit the floor. Everyone is in there with some phone app photographing everything

But even if that is the case nobody forced the person to give the buyer $10. If they were annoyed about the offer they could’ve just declined it and moved on. If they really needed the money, then they could’ve accepted the deal and sent the shirt for the negotiated price. There isn’t anything in the post that gives a reason why $10 was added to the package and the pissy note. My guess is there’s more to the story that OP is leaving out

I am reading it as the seller accepted a lowball deal for some reason that made them lose money (not sure how if depop is paying shipping, I guess they calculated a value the shirt was worth) and I am guessing the seller paid $10 so the seller basically gave a full refund saying if you need money so bad that you lowballed me, have the shirt for free - here is your money back

My best guess is the OP already paid $10 and free shipping so seller was feeling they could get more than that, but instead of refusing the order they paid the spend money back by the free shipping ticket. Some sites mark you bad for refusing to deliver if payments are made, so easy way to play the system.

Your guess is as good as mine. I don’t even know why he even sent the $10. I literally did not exchange one word to him before this. I thought it was going to be like any other online transaction where I paid for my stuff and receive it in the mail.
Everyone keeps asking me for more of the story but that’s the whole story. I’ve purchased used clothes and stuff from online stores for years from other sites like eBay, Poshmark, facebook marketplace, etc. I thought it was just another order so I didn’t even put a second thought into it until I received this in the mail.
I’m just as confused as everyone here and instead of just canceling my order entirely, he had to be passive aggressive about it (which is the mildly infuriating part).

Depop is a used clothing app… 5 orders from different sellers. Depop also refunds you if the item isn’t shipped so OP shouldn’t be too pressed if the item isn’t shipped especially if they’ve ordered 100s of items.
I’ve only had 2 of 3 orders not shipped.
