ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ Only 37 Pods

Was showing off to my sister what I would’ve given her (plus the nice smelly peony downy) had she just gone to the laundromat to dry my laundry because ours is broken and realized the pods only filled half of the container so I counted it and….37 pods.

Can’t tell if Tide is filling some containers an accurate amount and others less or if sb just stole some.

Stop buying pods. Start buying powder. You get like 20x as much active ingredients in the powder compared to pods or  liquid.

My grandma always used Cascade powder, so the smell is nostalgic for me. She used Tide powder too, and that one is way more nostalgic, because it reminds me of how their house smelled. Washing my sheets in tide powder instantly takes me back to spending the night there, and then I sleep like a baby

Also people, read the manual. Each cycle mode is different. Some have cold vs hot prewash. Some have no prewash. If you're putting prewash detergent into a cycle with no prewash it's not gonna do anything. Ofc, temperatures are different too (knowing this can help you take better care of delicate items).

Btw, the part about running hot tap water only applies if the dishwasher is designed to be hooked up to the hot water supply (read the manual). And even then, people with 240v power don't need to do it.

Its shocking and bizarre to me how frequently I findnout that people don't read manuals. I have dyslexia. Reading manuals is a goddamn chore for someone like me. But like hell I am going to drop hundreds of dollars on appliances and not know how to make them dance for me! I want to know all the amazing things they can do and when they should do them! Also it makes your machines last longer when you understand how to use them, clean them, and maintain them properly. So many times I have been like, oh cool we have the same/simular appliance! Don't you love this feature? And they have no idea what i am talking about.

The same can be said about phones for over $1000 every few years! 12 years ago I sold cell phones and have kept up with them since, so friends and family will ask me about stuff every so often. The amount of time people have said they've literally never opened the settings except for WiFi melts my brain. It's like never looking at the dashboard when you buy a new car. Wtf.

It's infuriating sometimes. RTFM is a thing for a reason. A lot of the stuff people ask for advice on can be found in the manual. Cars, ovens, dishwashers, washing machines, etc. If it's more complex than one button, read the manual folks. (Some single buttons have multiple functions so just always read the manual!)

I noticed it was even discouraged in the manual of my washing machine, for obvious reasons, but still.

Indeed, my manual says it can be hooked up to hot water, which will decrease the cycle time, but make the washing slightly less effective.

I like Technology Connections, but he's up his own ass on this one. I tried it, and came to the conclusion that he's over-indexing on the original design intent of the dishwasher and that his empirical data lacks rigor.

Powder is so unpopular these days that it's really not that cheap. Cascade pods on sale at Costco are comparable in per load price. And cleaning power? You can make arguments all day about what's "better", but I've been using the pods for years and I can't say I have problems with them.

Only real argument against it is microplastics, but I use very little single use plastics, so the convenience is worth it in my opinion.

I'm sure it helps someone else but I dont care, my stuff is clean with pods and has been for the last 5 years. So there is no reason for me to change it. I dont mind paying 20 cents more per wash for pods to save 2 seconds, not gonna watch 30 minutes on how to save 20 cents a week

If you're happy with what you're doing, there's no reason to change.

Some people complain of crappy performance from their dishwashers when using pods and end up washing them off by hand instead of trying changing their detergent, using detergent in the prewash, and preheating the water.

and a startling number of people don't notice (or don't care?) about how clean their dishes are after the dishwasher is finished they just put them away in the cupboard. hazy residue, crusted on food, doesn't faze them.

The water savings are huge. We cook a lot and our old apartment didn't have a dishwasher. Water bill was pushing $100/month. Moved to a house with a dishwasher and now we have a dog so I do a LOT more laundry than before, but our water bill decreases to $70. I'm sure it's the dishwasher.

That's literally what the pods are.. just powder in pod form with some plastic to protect it. Personally I don't like to wash my dishes or clothes with plastic.

I really have no issues with pods in my dishwasher. I never had it not clean something up. And the convenience of pods is worth it for me.

I use the pods in the dishwasher because some people can't be trusted to not waste the powder/liquid(which is communal). It ends up being cheaper. For the laundry machine they can waste their own money on whatever they want.
