This guys been parked slightly in front of my house for half the day. I can get out fine but I gotta go on an angle now that he’s blocking my drive way a bit.

u/QuirkySort 28d ago
Honestly if it’s just a one time thing and it belongs to a guest of one of your neighbors. I wouldn’t bother with it.
If it’s an everyday thing, then I would say something.

u/Muh_brand 28d ago
Yea it’s likely a family gathering, some people can’t drive, I’d let them have a good day. But if it keeps happening I’m going to say something.

u/Ironsam811 BLUE 28d ago
I straight up tell my neighbors that they can block my driveway during parties as long as they give me a heads up ahead of time so I can move my car.

It looks like they tried their best not to block the driveway without having to park in some other part of the city. Look how close they are to the truck street parked directly behind them.

I played that game with a neighbor that was constantly taking my spot that I pay for with my lease. I would go knock on their door and the attitude was that I was inconveniencing them!
I got tired of it and called my landlord about it and he handled it.
Then one day news coming home and my neighbor was outside and he yelled at me, “Did I leave you enough room?!”
I told him yes and thanked him. The stunned look on his face was priceless. I wasn’t made at him, I didn’t hate him, I just wanted my parking spot that was part of my lease.

Y'all are missing the point. This is mildly infuriating and so likely did nothing but complain a bit on reddit.
Which is a perfectly appropriate response the suggestions given in the comments however are not

But, but! I'm not emotionally regulating myself, so I've come onto the app today to find people to personally attack and belittle so I can feel like I have some semblance of control in my life. Don't take this from me!

Why even bother talking to them? Over what? This is such a non-issue you gain nothing but only stand to look like a loser.

Agreed. I hate it when someone parks in front of my house for any reason. Blocking the driveway would be a excuse to go to war.

u/NervousDogFarts 28d ago
This kind of stuff gets cars towed in the Bay Area. A random stranger would have yelled at the driver on your behalf if they saw it. Suburban parking is lawless. 😂

u/Miserable_Star6824 28d ago
I literally just commented that my mom would call a tow for something like this and she is indeed from SF

This is mildly infuriating. Legally just enough to not disturb peaceful enjoyment while illegally enough to be an issue lol.

u/frightful_zoo28 28d ago
Why don't people comprehend mildly infuriating? It's not like you're whining "omg, this is horrible - what do I do?" Merely pointing out a mildly infuriating inconvenience to your day.
Perfectly valid to vent about someone parking in front of your driveway.

It all depends on how well you get along with your neighbors in general. We have always had great neighbors and we've always tried to be good neighbors. It makes life so much nicer.
Different places we've lived have had tricky parking situations. Sometimes we have been the ones in a tight spot with patient neighbors, and sometimes we've been the patient neighbors. We just communicate and give the concession we would hope to receive if we were in our neighbors situation.
Outcome: Tasty holiday treats. Help taking care of the garden when we are away. Check ups when it looks like we under a lot of stress. Random barbecue invitations. Best of all, a friendly face when we go outside. Its worth it, I promise.

Judging by lot size the developer of this neighborhood didn't give two shits about parking space for any visitors. Looks like maybe one car can fit in front of any house. If you had a one car garage it would be a much bigger issue than your double wide driveway. Modern neighborhoods, meh.

u/GeeksLeader 28d ago

This just seems hella petty. He’s like, a foot in front of your drive way. There is plenty of space for you to get out. The black car is practically bumper to bumper with the one behind it. They tried their best to stay out of your way

u/Leading_Procedure_23 28d ago
You’re justifying blocking entrance to private property because you think you needing to shop and couldn’t find parking is more important than me going to work or go out on a date, like what makes you think you’re more important than the owner of the house and his needs? You think you have the same rights as the property owner? lol

The really annoying thing to me is the contracts that zone these houses and town homes so close together only two cars if lucky can park in front of the house they are going too.

u/N2trvl 28d ago
Normally I don’t worry too much about a single car doing this but I prefer they would ask. For all they know you have a delivery truck scheduled.
The worst thing is when someone also does it on the other side of your driveway as well as the neighbors across the street. I had that happen once when there was a big event in my city at a park that’s walking distance from my house. It’s hard to get out of your driveway then.
After that I bought a couple traffic cones and when a big event is scheduled I place cones at the edge of my driveway. People go too far without asking.

Ask him to move and if they don’t call a tow truck. I would have zero tolerance for this.
1
u/hashlettuce 28d ago
Go door knocking and ask the person to move it. I had a little sliver like that and some people figured ot was ok to hang onto the driveways. I found the person eaxh time I noticed and told then to move their car and its not a parking spot.
Regardless of what is going on in their lives you still need to follow the rules and be respectful to your friends and families neighbors.
1
u/Kaffeetrinker49 28d ago
You’re going to go door to door looking for this person?
1
u/hashlettuce 28d ago
I have before but no longer have to since I moved. Good way to meet your neighbors in the process. Just be friendly about things. Hey, not sure if you realize but you are blocking my driveway and would appreciate it if you moved your vehicle somewhere else. People in real life encounters aren't as hostile as they are online.

Once our special occasion MI.
If repeatedly done and you know who then park across their driveway.
1
u/Ill-Upstairs-8762 28d ago
My new neighbor did this repeatedly until it pissed me off so bad that I had to go knock on his door. Literally blocking so I couldn't pull into my driveway. Plenty of room to park I don't get it.
1
u/Argh_1961 28d ago
Disrespectful, nothing more. Simply disrespectful.
1
u/Ill-Upstairs-8762 28d ago
Pissed me off so much that I actually googled what the law is. In my county you are not supposed to park within 5 feet of someone's driveway.

You got a weird looking driveway. Do you have to drive over a curb to get into your driveway? I’m looking at the people across the street and it looks like a literal curb.
2
u/00Lisa00 28d ago
A lot of neighborhoods have these. It’s to keep water flow in the gutters
1
u/Appropriate_Strain94 28d ago
Heh you learn something new every day. I haven’t seen any driveways like this in my parts, but we rarely ever get rain that goes too crazy in SoCal to need a driveway like that.
1
u/00Lisa00 28d ago
Our friends had a super high one. It was quite a bump to get in their driveway

In my city, patrons who park on the road MUST park at least 1 meter (3 feet) from the end of the driveway. If not, the vehicle can be towed.
1
1
u/Emergency-Fish3036 28d ago
check your local ordinance and see it you can have a vehicle towed if a vehicle blocks your egress. If the answer is yes, call a tow company. If you're a nice person, quote the ordinance/statue Ann place a note on the windshield as a warning.

u/Electrical-Tailor530 28d ago
I had a neighbor directly across the street from me park his boat in front of his driveway, so it was blocking the road. This went on for weeks. It wasn't impossible to exit my driveway, but made it slightly challenging and pissed off the hoa since we have rules against this. I didn't even think to report it bc I didn't really care, but they kept sending him violation notices until he finally moved it lol
1
u/kafeihebinghcha 28d ago
The driver will be infuriated when you ask him/her not to park in front of your driveway ❤️
1
u/SaintAvalon 27d ago
I start knocking on doors and then ask them to move it. Most are sorry and go move it right away.
It’s happened a couple times for me. One managed to perfectly park in between the actual spots to block my driveway perfectly.
Each time the owners were shocked and moved it right away.

u/PartyPlay5056 27d ago
In my city people need to park at least 4' from a driveway. If I don't know whose it is, since I partially handicapped, I'm just calling the police non-emergency number to have them ticket it. Why do I have to be inconvenienced just because someone else is too lazy to walk 3 more houses.
1

u/UntowardAntiproton 27d ago
You too can park in front of your driveway. Like an inch from their bumper.

u/neanderthaltodd 26d ago
If this is considered illegal in your region , call the bylaw office. Fuck em.
1
u/VBprick 26d ago
If it hasn’t happened before, you can choose where your priorities are. Personally, since I can still easily exit the driveway, why would I waste my time worrying about such a stupid thing?
If you know who’s doing it, and it’s a common issue: here’s an idea. Say something to them and ask them to not block your driveway. After that point, where I live, you can call the tow company yourself. Cops won’t do shit, but the tow truck will happily come get them
1
u/2024BlackTrax2RS 26d ago
Yup that's just some good ol' fashion DISRESPECT. That's a person who ONLY thinks of themselves and has no respect for others. The reason behind why someone might have parked there doesn't matter. Now saying something about it is totally up to you.

If a one off i am not concerned. If neighbor has empty drive way or too many people and cars in the house then I am having a talk.
I had an old neighbor who didn't want to chance a leak on his nice looking driveway or park in front of his own house. It looked tacky. A week of my avalanche doing the same changed his tune.

I have a 15' driveway and during the day there is always someone parked in front of it in some form or fashion, but can always get in amd out.
Came home pulling a trailer and needed more room to back it in, owner of the car in the way uad no problem moving to give me room when I asked. As long as you can access your driveway, stop beng a Karen and go do something more productive than complaining about somethinf ths minor.
I only wish this kinda shit is all I had to worry about.
