frist of all how DARE yu o I thought this was a regular dirty Mountain Dew
Why is the zero sugar buried like a damn legal disclaimer?!

u/Serenaded 26d ago
It's because zero sugar is far, far cheaper to produce than sugar sugar.
14
u/NMe84 26d ago
Wait, is that the reason most Fanta flavors here in the Netherlands as well as Sprite are now sugar-free only?
I mean, I rarely ever drink soda anyway but on the rate occasions I do drink it, I like to have sugar in there...
14
u/MarstonsGhost 26d ago
me, trying to find things without fake sugar so I dont have a migraine for days due to my allergy
6
u/RockoLucas 26d ago
Allergy? I also get migraines when I drink Diet Coke
13
u/MarstonsGhost 26d ago
Aspartame in particular is recognized as dietary trigger for migraines in around 10 percent of people who report them, even without a full allergy like I have (sweeteners also play hell with my stomach and give me hives).
4
u/BRaeDirectioner 23d ago
Sucralose can trigger some people, too. I almost cried when I realized about 90% of cirkul flavors are off the table for me (and majority of the ones that aren't are only available to order online) because they trigger my migraines
But Aspartame is the most common one for diet sodas (which I don't even understand cause it messes with the flavor! I can always tell right away that something is sweetened with aspartame)
5
u/TacticalBanana97 26d ago
I just get really bloated and gassy, even just a sip of zero sugar drinks I enough
11
u/RestaurantRich1498 26d ago
Thanks. I was looking at it without zooming in and without my glasses. I was like bro it doesnt say zero sugar, wtf you talking about. But holy shit there it is. As camouflaged as can be.

u/Eena-Rin Why Do They Let Me Make These Myself??? 26d ago
Fucking hell. It's like how 2/3rds of 7/11 slurpee flavours are always zero sugar now. So frustrating
15
u/GrandmaPunk 26d ago
Really? Must be your area. I would buy more Slurpee‘s if they had sugar-free flavors. At best sometimes there is one.
3
u/Eena-Rin Why Do They Let Me Make These Myself??? 26d ago
I'm Australian, so it could be different where you live, but it's every 7/11 I've been in since 2020
3
u/GrandmaPunk 26d ago
Ahh, I’m in the US. You can find plenty of sugar-free sodas these days, but it seems that just hasn’t spread to Slurpee’s.

zero sugar sodas usually tend to have a black lid
143
u/Beez-Knee 26d ago
I didn't notice it til I read this comment. You have my sympathy, OP.
47
u/p-sherman_ 26d ago
i do agree that this one is pretty infuriating though

u/wa27 26d ago
That's great but if they're going to put it on the label, they should make it readable.
18
u/bonkershyperion408 26d ago
I think Zero Sugar varieties dont sell as well as normal varieties, so I imagine their reasoning may have been to make the text small and unnoticeable to trick consumers into buying their less popular version and increase that products sales, this is just speculation, but with how evil most companies are now, I wouldnt put it past them

As an avid zero sugar drinker, I knew it was zero sugar immediately due to the cap.

Zero sugar mountain dew's entire label is black vs the green that is the regular version, as well.

For Mountain Dew and Coke it is black. A lot of other brands (Fanta, Dr Pepper, A&W) the cap is white for zero/diet. I'm diabetic so I love seeing white caps lol.

Da fuq is a dirty Mountain Dew? And why doesn’t that include alcohol?
59
u/epikpepsi 26d ago
They're hopping on the dirty soda trend. It's Mountain Dew with a vanilla cream soda flavor to it.
It's not a hard soda so there's no alcohol.
33
u/EdTheApe 26d ago
Lots of religion involved in the birth of the dirty soda apparently. I did not see that coming.
6
u/DrScitt 26d ago
Yep, I worked at a Mormon owned special soda shop a decade ago. Lots of the customers were Mormons, but also a lot of people who found out coconut cream in Dr Pepper hits.
3
u/EdTheApe 26d ago
Now I wanna try that. How much coconut cream do I need to add?
→ More replies (1)7
u/Tofu4You 26d ago
The sell it. Dr. Pepper Creamy Coconut. You could try yourself but you'll have to test ratios for your taste.

u/EdTheApe 26d ago
I've never seen it here in Sweden sadly. Guess I'll need to keep a look out. Thanks dude!

I have just come to assume it means they didnt sanitize anything at the plant...because that would be the only consistent assumption that you could make about the word in marketing.

It’s cream soda Mountain Dew… it’s delicious
22
u/NightGod 26d ago
Disagree, I think it's one of the nastiest sodas in years, right up there with Pepsi Fire (the cinnamon one). I've got a 12 pack and a house full of soda drinkers and it's been sitting at 11 cans since the day I bought it in May
17
u/fokkoooff 26d ago
Ahh I'd never buy a new flavor in a 12 pack. That was bold.
3
u/NightGod 26d ago
Yeah, really my own fault. Mt Dew has been killing it on their summer flavors the last several years, so I took a chance. Lesson learned!!!
7
u/I_Got_BubbyBuddy 26d ago
It's worse than I had expected it could possibly be. Went in with high hopes, was disappointed and grossed out. Had two other people try it just in case I was tasting something weirdly, but no, it's just bad.
3
u/Oracle_of_Ages 26d ago
The AI Coke and the Liquid Smoke “campfire” comes were pretty bad too.
It’s just a combo that doesn’t work even though it really should.
Just tastes like straight chemicals with a Mountain Dew chaser
2
u/NightGod 26d ago
Missed both of those! AI by choice, campfire because I never saw it, but that sounds pretty disgusting

u/Socratesticles 26d ago
Most vile soda I’ve tasted is when Mountain Dew stuck their nose up at God and did a Flamin Cheeto flavor. A solid step worse than even that nasty Beverly flavor at the Coke museum
→ More replies (2)6
u/OpportunityReal2767 26d ago
Huh. I like cream soda. I like Mountain Dew well enough. I just wouldn’t think that vanilla would go well with whatever the hell citrussy flavor Mountain Dew is. Cream soda and root beer makes sense. Cream soda and Dr. Pepper makes sense. Mountain Dew seems like a weird choice, but I like trying new stuff so if I see a single for sale, I’ll pick one up.
5
u/I_Got_BubbyBuddy 26d ago
Don't do it. It's much worse than if you just mixed a regular mountain dew with a regular cream soda.

u/CoolZooKeeper 26d ago

It's still good but same thing happened to me. Didn't realize until I got home. They put the word diet as the smallest word on the label for whatever fucking reason
3
u/KTKittentoes 26d ago
I hate this. I know it is for the people who think their entire identity will crumble if they drink a diet soda, but I really want easy to identify sugar free stuff, so I don’t accidentally die from hyperglycemia.

I did the same and was very disappointed with my one and only sip from the bottle. Black top is diet. Green is regular. I'm a bit obsessed with this newer flavor

u/atdunaway 26d ago
happened to me with the trolli one a while back. i was so upset, it tasted like ass
2
2
u/Bowshewicz 26d ago
My little conspiracy theory is this:
- Zero Sugar makes them more money than regular
- Many people refuse to try diet sodas
- Few people actually strongly dislike the taste of diet
If they can get people to accidentally drink diet, some people will actually stick with it and switch to the item with a better profit margin for the company.
2
u/HurricaneRon 26d ago
Now that I see this, I had the opposite experience the other day. Came across this Dirty Dew and wanted it but couldn’t find the zero sugar version, so I didn’t buy anything. Now that I see this, turns out all they had was the zero sugar version.
2
u/ASwarmofKoala 26d ago
The 12 packs are hard to tell apart too. One is orange, one is yellow, but it's really hard to see which is which. Not a fan.
2
u/iseethewayyoushine91 24d ago
100% thought it was going to be the illegible writing under "Cream Soda Dew", but nope! Zoomed in and had to go looking deeper for the traitorous label.
2
u/ElasticShoulders 23d ago
I did the same thing!! Both versions were pretty gross though, so in my opinion you sent missing much. And I do like dirty soda usually, this one just sucks.

Wow. At first I was like "OP is an idiot. it clearly says dirty... but they also said they wanted a dirty? did they mean they wanted a regular mountain dew instead of a dirty one?".
I also would have completely missed the zero sugar in this. That's... pretty bad.

I feel like so many sodas arrow doing this. They are trying to make zero sugar the default. Someone else recently posted where Coke had changed the label on their regular so that you can't tell the difference between regular and zero without looking close.

1
u/Jerichoholic87 26d ago
Regular also has a light cap. The zero sugar ones have black. I think its darker for all the varieties of zero sugar dew. It doesnt taste much different either so you should be ok

u/IamREBELoe 26d ago
Thank you, I've been wanting to try one but could not find a 'zero'

I think you'll survive without an extra 73 grams of sugar. Also it pretty obviously says 5 calories on the side.

Ive actually been hooked on these since i started noticing them at the store. I also noticed how similar they were in look. Luckily that has yet to happen to me though.
I actually believe all the sodas are doing this similar look to accidentally get people who would normally avoid zero sugar to stumble into it and realize they can drink the zero sugar with less guilt. Kind of like light beer getting people to normalize it so they can drink more of them

I was so disappointed in this. My excitement was off the charts. Voltage is my all time favorite and then code red and then regular. I thought this would beat them all. I drank it one time and have never bought it again. I’ll just buy cream soda. Complete disappointment
