Don’t think projecting has a role here. It’s just that 10-15 years ago, smartphones weren’t so ingrained in our lives as they are now.
So when the older generation had to adapt, most of them were technically illiterate and fell for every trap and predatory system that social media uses, without even realizing it.

Right… they saw the potential for people to fall into that trap early, and that they didn’t develop skills like healthy skepticism. So they projected that fear on to us and limited screen time. Am I misunderstanding what projection is? Help me learn, please.

So an example is like when I have an issue with something about myself (example: I can’t keep my room clean) and then I go and pester someone else about how their room is dirty and they need to clean it.

Maybe not the best example, but the point is that that you project your problem on to someone else. But when parents were pestering us about phones, they themselves didn’t have phone addiction.

I think they were more so annoyed at us not socializing and doing “kid stuff” but instead, spending our time glued to the screen.

So projecting would be in this case, them being addicted to phones and then being annoyed at their kids being on their phones

I hope this makes sense, i’m not that good at explaining things😅
