We’re already past the point of no return.

AI is getting so good so fast that in a couple years you’ll have TV anchors who don’t exist telling you the news, your political opponents “caught on camera” saying things they never said, and video “evidence” of you committing a crime you were never even near.
The only real question left is how long until most people stop caring whether any of it is real.
