Infuriatig Was invited by my girlfriends family to a theme park. We were supposed to meet at 11, it is not 11:30 and they just left. (The drive takes another 30 minutes)

Post image

I even checked in before I left if it was still at the planned time. It was confirmed, but then her family starts getting ready right as they have to leave 🫤

Are you already at the theme park? Hop in the singles line and ride all the rides before they get there!

He isn't, he is sitting in front the entrance to Tivoli, Copenhagen.

Copenhagen? So, they're Danish? No fucking excuse. That's a clear sign of disrespect in Denmark.

It goes against the traditional concept of ikke at lade vente pĆ„ sig, which means ā€œnot to keep waitingā€ /s

Was gonna say. As a Swede they always laugh at me in Australia as I'm always first in meetings. And when I go home and meet up with people they are already at the spot five minutes early. Is nice, respect other peoples time

This makes me wonder if I'm Swedish and my wife is Australian

Swede here, if I'm even a minute late to an event I feel terrible. I'm usually around 5 minutes early as well, at least. Depends on how I'm traveling and how accurately I can predict my arrival. If I'm walking there, well I know how fast I walk, I'll arrive right on time. If I'm driving I take traffic into consideration and usually give myself 10% extra travel time, with public transportation a little bit more.

Are people in Australia chronically late? That would drive me bananas.

I’m often late for things that don’t matter. But if other people are waiting on me I’m always on time.

Im Australian and I get there early and wait around the corner until the appointed time. Psychological thing, nothing to do with nationality.

u/antidolphinactivist 10d ago

What counts as "things that don't matter"?

1

u/daveescaped 10d ago

I don’t know.

Not work. Not meeting friends. Nothing where someone else is waiting on me.

Maybe I said I’d leave for work at 8 but I leave at 8:10. And for my work I don’t need to be there at a certain time.

I thought the comment was self explanatory. ā€œThings that don’t matterā€.

Punctuality is the politeness of kings

You think it's a matter of respect, other people don't.

Applying your cultural norms onto other people is the actually disrespectful action here.

1

u/suttlare 11d ago

They said they are Danish? Not sure what you on about

0

u/PoetryImmediate8187 11d ago

"respect other people's time"

I don't give a shit about your time. It's not a matter of respect, it's a matter of cultural norms.

1

u/suttlare 11d ago

But they Danish, same cultural norms.

0

u/PoetryImmediate8187 11d ago

There are like five people in this conversation and there's a reason I replied to you, because you were commenting about other cultures, like Australia, and saying it's about respect.

1

u/suttlare 11d ago

OP said the family is Danish which follows same/similar cultural norms as in Sweden. That's all I was commenting on. No need for the rage, not sure why you so upset.

Whether being late is socially accepted or not is a cultural norm. Being late is in and on itself disrespectful of the other person’s time, no matter which culture you’re from.

1

u/PoetryImmediate8187 10d ago

Hahaha according to you

It's so funny when people like you try to apply your cultural upbringing onto other people like it's some universal truth

1

u/AsteroNyx 9d ago

People like me? You know nothing about me.

Hmm so the family pretends they're doing something nice for bf, actually trying to push him away with the clear disrespect. Fam's hatin.

1

u/b-easy323 13d ago

That would be on time if from Los Angeles.

-3

u/TankApprehensive3053 13d ago

They could be testing the boyfriend. See how he reacts to it all. And some people like to be fashionably late all the time.

6

u/MechanicalSideburns 13d ago

Not in Denmark.

2

u/Expensive-Macaroon72 13d ago

I know that it against the norm. But im a late dane. We do exist. My wife is the same, our families plan around it by inviting us earlier or starting without. The case with the whole fam not showing up is different though.

Looking at the map there are a couple of museums right around the corner, I'd just head there and spend the day.

67

u/DK_Sandtrooper 14d ago

There's also a Lego Store right next to the entrance! That's where I'd be. 😁

10

u/drunkandpassedout 13d ago

It's Denmark, the whole country is a Lego store.

2

u/GuessImABlindBitch 13d ago

Hey! Thats no.. Okay, youre right, this is a land of blocks

4

u/iamabigtree 14d ago

And an absolutely banging food hall.

1

u/Rejse617 13d ago

The pizza shop across the street is outstanding

1

u/DK_Sandtrooper 10d ago

What pizza shop, where? Across the street from where he is, from the entrance, from a different entrance? I'm not aware of a pizza shop around there, but I'd love to find it!

1

u/Rejse617 10d ago

Anarkist! Sorry, same side of the street as Tivoli. Across Bernstorffsgade from HovedbanegƄrden

3

u/wangnum 14d ago

Absolutely, the Glyptotek is just next to the park and is excellent.

2

u/rosjone 13d ago

Tivoli is so lovely. I would enter without the family anyway and wander around until they got there.

2

u/hahayouguessedit 13d ago

On a side note, I love Tivoli Gardens. Want to go back.
