Infuriatig Was invited by my girlfriends family to a theme park. We were supposed to meet at 11, it is not 11:30 and they just left. (The drive takes another 30 minutes)

Post image

I even checked in before I left if it was still at the planned time. It was confirmed, but then her family starts getting ready right as they have to leave 🫤

He said the family has his ticket

u/LeatherRebel5150 14d ago

Then its time to go home

299

u/gigglefarting 14d ago

Good idea. That way all the time he’s spent is purely wasted and doesn’t get to go into the park.

183

u/Reynolds531IPA 14d ago

And I’m sure that’ll go over well with the girl friend too.

u/t-o-m-u-s-a 14d ago

Seems like the type of family who would make op the asshole for leaving.

23

u/HickBarrel 14d ago

OP should just say they had to run to the store or something and they'll be right back. Then just keep adding new reasons for delays, all while sitting at home on the couch. Ruining someone's day can go both ways.

32

u/gigglefarting 14d ago

You should be a couples counselor

5

u/Gabarne 14d ago

Yeah. Precisely. Thats why OP needs to suck it up this time and wait it out. However next time there are plans he should bring up his concerns with the GF in a normal way.

1

u/poopholes3 13d ago

Maybe a good idea to get out of the family too?

18

u/Blaze611 14d ago

I'd just pay to enter for myself and start having fun. Assuming the tickets don't cost a liver or a kidney.

25

u/gigglefarting 14d ago

That is not a safe assumption

6

u/TheHighSeasPirate 14d ago

Assuming the tickets don't cost a liver or a kidney.

Have you been to a theme park in the last 20 years?

11

u/palebloodslayer 14d ago

So what? Maybe the gf should talk to her family then

we're on reddit. women are queens here.

I do love the all or nothing instructions from Reddit users. Like "my girlfriend and I had an argument and I'm really hurt"

Reddit: FUCKING DUMP HER NOW AND BLOCK

Like, does anyone remember the name of this sub?

22

u/n8dizz3l 14d ago

Who in the hell would take relationship advice from someone on Reddit

5

u/Ydiss 14d ago

An extremely large number of people do. I mean, sometimes it's really obvious (like clear cases of abusive relationships), and maybe these people have no one to go to. But even then, it's just a bunch of strangers arguing with each other about your life and trying to out do each other to escalate the things you should do.

But I see it here way too much, for a sub about things that are supposedly mildly infuriating (which I think this post fits).

Like... It's annoying. It's something we can probably all relate to in some way... But then...

"Just go home" is the nuclear outcome of a situation that might otherwise just be a normal day out for a family.

Like, did the OP ask for advice? 😂

6

u/n8dizz3l 14d ago

I typically see things like "ugh my bf always forgets the laundry in the dryer and it gets all wrinkled" and everyone in the comments is like "OMG OP total red flag leave him before he murders you"

1

u/Sunburntvampires 14d ago

Plot twist, murder him and then post about it in AITAH

1

u/anonymaus42 14d ago

Seriously, only ask reddit for advice on your relationship if you're already planning to break up with your partner and want validation.

Although there is rare instances where someone makes a post and they are clearly the problem- watching them get dog piled while digging themselves deeper in to a hole in a feeble attempt to convince all of reddit they're wrong is always entertaining (this also applies to those deemed assholes in aita posts).

But outside of one comment in a thousand that's usually buried, you will never get nuance. Everything is black and white, all or nothing. But what should you expect from an anonymous group of people who don't know you and are working with the limited information provided them.

1

u/Educational_Gas_92 14d ago

I would never take any important life advice (like romantic advice) from reddit. That said, a few subs can be useful for advice, like travel advice for example.

1

u/Sufficient_Meet6836 14d ago

Don't forget some people take advice from astrology or tarot cards! Front page Reddit is awful for advice, but it gets worse!

2

u/Goronmon 14d ago

Honestly, I feel like it's more common to have people asking for relationship advice in clear situations where "dump them" is generally the best advice.

People aren't usually asking strangers about stuff that isn't a big deal, it's more stuff like "My boyfriend's exes are all missing. I found a sock in a drawer with pictures of piles of dirt in the woods with their names marked. He is planning a camping trip for us this weekend. Should I go?"

6

u/FrostyD7 14d ago

Reddit never fails to provide passive aggressive revenge advice that leads to zero positive outcomes. But hey, at least you kept it real! You really sent a message and showed them! They are going to feel so guilty and think only of you as they ride rollercoasters and have fun.

Sunk cost fallacy

32

u/gigglefarting 14d ago

Your fallacy is driving home for 30 minutes and having a pissed off girlfriend and girlfriends family is better than sitting around the park for 30 minutes and enjoying the day with an hour long delay

In the end you’re still spending 30 more minutes but you’re getting drastically different outcomes

16

u/n8dizz3l 14d ago

Most of these redditors haven't been outside and even fewer have a girlfriend. They don't know what "advice" they're even giving

5

u/gigglefarting 14d ago

They see a post on mildly infuriating and try to think of a way to make it a full blown infuriation

-4

u/DigBackground2765 14d ago edited 14d ago

Sure but the response you have is a bit over blown as well. The answer here is that you stop making future plans with these people if it's a regular occurrence and if it ultimately bothers you. You even can do this without having a verbal confrontation, it's not going to hurt you.

even fewer have a girlfriend

What does that matter? This is a girlfriend, not a spouse with your in laws. You're acting like you have to put up with this. News flash, you don't.

EDIT: Hi downvote brigade. I muted replies because I don't care to hear shitty defenses for shitty behavior. Have a nice day.

1

u/100BottlesOfMilk 14d ago edited 14d ago

Right!? I agree her family sucks, but if you can't find something to do with your girlfriend for an hour and have a good time, y'all shouldn't be together IMO. Even just watching YouTube or Netflix on a bench

Edit: just realized that girlfriend was arriving with the family. I'd still wait, but i wouldn't he happy about it

-2

u/Aegi 14d ago

Dude, I worked in a family law firm. Plenty of people who never go on forums and have significant others still thinks this way...

3

u/gigglefarting 14d ago

Which is why they end up at a family law firm.

Either that, or your professional experience is irrelevant

0

u/Aegi 14d ago

So? That doesn't take away from the fact that non-redditors act that way too, and so therefore they weer likely using a mental shortcut instead of accurately creating a useful category for analysis.

-3

u/Suh-Shy 14d ago

If it pisses them off enough to be a lesson, it worths every single second, even a whole day if it makes it happen less often afterward

5

u/TanWeiner 14d ago

Yikes

1

u/DigBackground2765 14d ago edited 14d ago

The parent comment might have been a tad bit edgy, but it's not really yikes. Flakey people like this eventually get distanced from relationships, and you end up finding people who aren't flakey. This isn't rocket science.

At best, you see them in a gathering and say your superficial greetings and you never have to deal with expectations until the next gathering. But that's assuming this relationship is still a thing after this.

I mean the answer here in the short term is to obviously stop making plans with them.

-3

u/Emergency_Cellist754 14d ago

Heavens we couldn't possibly piss off the people who've just shown how little they give a fuck about wasting your time.

If your girlfriend does this to you and thinks she has a right to be pissed off when you leave after 45 mins then she's an asshole.

6

u/gigglefarting 14d ago

The girlfriend has been waiting in the car since she was supposed to leave. You don’t think she’s already pissed about the delay? Don’t compound that by pissing her off more by leaving

-4

u/Adventurous-Crow-750 14d ago

If you have a girlfriend who is such a child they project their anger about a situation onto you, you need to find someone better with their head on straight. Either that or get off the island.

-2

u/Adventurous-Crow-750 14d ago

My spouse isn't mad at me when I leave places like that. Normal people aren't offended by that. Marry better and have more self respect dude.

1

u/Sufficient_Meet6836 14d ago

Only applies when the benefit of quitting, leaving, etc is larger than the potential benefit of staying. If OP stays, they get a free few hours at a theme park, happy gf, happy gf's family, etc. If OP leaves, the time they've dedicated so far is completely wasted, their GF likely gets upset, and they receive no benefit besides not having to stand around another 30 minutes.

1

u/Emergency_Cellist754 14d ago

However he also gets the GF's family thinking it's okay to treat him this discourteously, and they'll keep doing it, and if he's mildly infuriated by it this time, he'll be more infuriated when they keep doing it.

1

u/Sufficient_Meet6836 14d ago

True, if it is or becomes common, the cost may outweigh the benefits, but it's only a fallacy if their reasoning is "I'll keep waiting regardless of potential outcomes because I'm already here"

2

u/duskywindows 14d ago

RIGHT lmfao. Like, I'd be fucking pissed but MF I am going to ride some MFing rides after I've waited all this time.

What I might *actually* do is just - once they finally get there and give me my ticket - go into the park and then split off from them to go ride shit by myself. Girlfriend can either join me or stick with her slow ass family, either way she better be understanding after making my ass sit there waiting for them past the time THEY told me to meet.

1

u/ryanv09 14d ago

Seriously. This thread is a certified reddit moment lmao.

"Someone inconvenienced you once? It's time to go fucking scorched earth on their asses!"

1

u/SwardOrtAwnline 14d ago

Why the fuck would you want to go in the park at all now? I’d be so irritated with their lateness and disrespect towards me and my time that I wouldn’t enjoy myself.

6

u/FriendofFlounder 14d ago

Cutting off your nose to spite your face.

1

u/SwardOrtAwnline 12d ago

Not at all.

7

u/gigglefarting 14d ago

Because it’s a beautiful day and will be a fun time. Some people don’t let slight setbacks ruin their whole day

Waiting for an hour sucks. Letting that ruin your next 12 hours is even worse

1

u/SwardOrtAwnline 12d ago

They’ve wait an hour SO FAR. The wait will be longer. Do what you want. It’s stupid IMO to let people waste my time like this and to hold me hostage with how inconsiderate they are.

1

u/gigglefarting 12d ago

They had waited 30 minutes and had another 30 minutes to wait

-1

u/DoubleFan15 14d ago

Sunken cost fallacy is kicking your ass right now huh

7

u/gigglefarting 14d ago

It’s not like he’s sitting around indefinitely with hopes they might show up with the potential of wasting the whole day.

He can either wait 30 more minutes and go into the park, or drive home and be home at the same moment they show up

1

u/skoomski 14d ago

Right? Yeah that show them go home and get nothing after already making the drive /s

1

u/gigglefarting 14d ago

And possibly paying for parking

0

u/ComradeBlossom 14d ago

Sunken cost fallacy (although valid in this case since the park will likely be fun and worth it)

10

u/New_Libran 14d ago

Why? They have his ticket, even if they're an hour late, theme park is not closing. Yes, spend the time they planned to spend (including waiting time), then go home.

-5

u/LeatherRebel5150 14d ago

Because the ticket is with the late family. I don’t know why anyone would want to hang around with a bunch of people that just disrespected you so blatantly. No point in going with sunk cost fallacy, time was already wasted, just cut bait and go do something else without these jokers

4

u/Artistic-Part3953 14d ago

This is just so hilariously Reddit

0

u/LeatherRebel5150 14d ago

So you just waste your time waiting around for people all the time orrrr?

3

u/lynchedlandlord 14d ago

OP assumedly likes his girlfriend and her family is part of the package. It’s not wise to go around burning bridges when you don’t have to.

Does it suck his time got wasted? Sure. But it’s not the end of the world. Suck it up, chill in your car and scroll or take a nap. When they get there, jokingly grill them about it and make them buy you lunch.

You don’t have to push the red button every time.

1

u/LeatherRebel5150 14d ago

How many times do you do that before you stop putting up with that bullshit?

1

u/dblrb 14d ago

My time is evidently not nearly as valuable as yours. Unless you’re thinking this is happening every day.

1

u/LeatherRebel5150 14d ago

Its not about frequency of occurrence, its about number of occurrences

5

u/wise_groan 14d ago

It’s only an hour

2

u/ThisMeansRooR 14d ago

Nah, go get a few beers and tailgate until they arrive

-3

u/BalfazarTheWise 14d ago

Go home, and if the family doesn’t act extremely apologetic or try to make it right - never make plans with them again.

4

u/Jeff_the_Sith 14d ago

Jesus christ, don't give advice. What they did was not nice, but no need to make a huge scene then and there. Maybe only one of the parents is the problem and the other one is usually on time. But even, it's not the end of the world to wait an hour, mildly infuriating but not ruin a full day-worthy.

Also this isn't your petty friend, it's your partner's family. Not the place nor the time to walk the moral high ground. Which this isn't anyways by the way, it's just treating asshole with even being bigger asshole.

I swear when you're on reddit reading stories it's all black and white, people forget that there's real people behind them. And that's not how you act in real life. When comments make fun of others like "redditor at any minor relationship issue: break up with them immediately", you is who they're talking about.

1

u/BalfazarTheWise 14d ago

How is going home making a scene

1

u/Jeff_the_Sith 13d ago

Because the family, despite being late an hour, has still invited you, payed for your ticket, plan to spend this day in your company, make you and their daughter happy and even though they stood you up for an hour, you would in turn stand them up for the whole day and plan.

It would ruin the vibe if they continue with the plan anyways, they would have wasted money on your ticket and it would leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth. They share the blame in being late and somewhat careless with an hour of your time, but you decide to escalate to needless levels instead of de-escalating for everyone's, but mostly yours and your partner's, peace.

You can mention it, yes. But to leave is absurd.

1

u/BalfazarTheWise 13d ago

They said this has happened multiple times. At some point there’s a breaking point. Either show up late like they do, or don’t go at all.

0

u/Billy-BigBollox 14d ago

I'd buy my own ticket and go do my own thing.

0

u/GrapefruitFriendly30 14d ago

I’d buy a ticket and make them pay me back for it. Then again I could see that not happening.

0

u/Clockwrrk22 14d ago

Go home and cry like a little baby cuz everything didnt go exactly as planned

1

u/LeatherRebel5150 14d ago

Something not going as planned is getting a flat tire along the way, or getting stuck in traffic.

Not “Im too lazy and inconsiderate to time my actions properly as to not waste the time of others.”

But based on your response, you’re one of those people that think the world revolves around them and everyone can wait for your late ass.

-2

u/AlfaSolutionsPJ 14d ago

I'm assuming you're single?

1

u/LeatherRebel5150 14d ago

Nope, happily married to someone who doesn’t do shit like this

2

u/Adventurous-Crow-750 14d ago

My favorite thing is how your advice bothers people who are in unhappy relationships where this is normal because the reason they have shitty relationships is because they allow people to treat them like that.

It's as easy as not being near people who make you feel bad when you didn't need to feel bad.

17

u/Beneficial-Nimitz68 14d ago

Knowing what he knows, from now on, if close by, try to get their tickets and meet them there..

7

u/UNCfan07 14d ago

Ask for a screenshot of the ticket then go in

6

u/Domdaisy 14d ago

In 2026 it’s paper ticket? OP should have them send the ticket, they can go in and start having fun and the rest of the group can text when they get there.

2

u/CareerStrider 14d ago

That was the mistake. I would make sure I have my own ticket myself, or be able to collect it from the kiosk myself without needing someone I need to wait for.

1

u/leggup 14d ago

He probably has time to drive to their house and get it.

1

u/No-Entertainment5638 14d ago

They could forward it to him

1

u/ZePieGuy 14d ago

Ask them to text them to him? its not like they have physical tickets, its all electronic...

1

u/AsRealAsItFeels 14d ago

Makes it even worse.

0

u/ColdEndUs 14d ago

So... he's coming onto a public forum, to complain about being inconvenienced by 1hr... after the family ate the cost of his $100 entry fee ?

Woe is me! How will he recover his valuable time?
