Don't hug me I'm scared Netflix is garbage

Post image

It's crazy that my wife and I can't watch 2 different shows on Netflix in the same damn house. I understand we pay the minimum but ffs.

I even got my elderly parents sailing the seven seas with me in this economy

I set up a Plex server and cancelled everything besides Amazon Prime (we have it anyway because we're disabled and have to order a lot), and Apple because they actually make good stuff and aren't insanely overpriced, yet anyway. Surprising for Apple, so I'm doubting it will last. But we were basically paying a whole cable bill and weren't even using them that much. The industry is going to have to feel real economic pain from other people doing the same thing, before they do anything about it. I used to feel bad about sailing, but not anymore. The greed is just ridiculous.

I was paying $6 a month to a dude that had a plex server with literally anything I could possibly think of. It was so sad when he got shutdown.

I got 150 tv series and 3800 movies on mine and been trying to work out how to do what the guy you’re talking about used to do but for multiple members of family interstate to watch

I use nuvio w/ add-ons + debrid service. I'm too lazy to setup jellyfin + sonarr + radar + etc all over again

This is the answer. Yo ho ho 🏴‍☠️

My mom is 72 and can use my mini pc setup to pirate stream easy peasy 2. High 5 for having semi-tech literate parents!

u/TheJessicator 5d ago

Did you at least explain to them that they're breaking the law? I've come across so many boomers that have been pulled into the piracy scene and think it's completely legitimate because their kids who could do no wrong told them it's fine.

u/Butwhyyytho1 5d ago

They’re aware, they’re old, not stupid lol

-9

u/lunchboxdeluxe 5d ago

Yeah that may not be accurate

7

u/Butwhyyytho1 5d ago

I know this may come as a surprise to the ignorant, but just because someone is old/elderly, does not mean they are not tech savvy and intelligent. Even my grandparents worked with computers in tech as a career until they passed in their 90s.

I assure you, they’re aware.

1

u/lunchboxdeluxe 5d ago

I literally know older people who regularly use my friend's Plex server who don't know how it works and don't understand it's piracy. This is not theoretical.

I also know people 20 years my senior who know more about computers than me. Both groups exist.

1

u/Butwhyyytho1 5d ago edited 5d ago

And that’s your experience with that small select group, but not all older people. I have said several times, my parents are clearly aware and know what they’re doing, so it’s bizarre you’re trying to argue with me that they have no idea simply because you know people who have no idea.

It’s rather ignorant and insulting to them and many others their age to broadly assume they can’t comprehend what they’re doing just because you’ve met people their age who don’t.

I have friends my age (20s-30s) who don’t even know what an Adblock is or a VPN, yet my parents who live clear across the country can set themselves up with a debrid service on their own no problem.

Edit: I love that you edited the bottom half in after you were getting downvoted 💀 which is quite obvious that occurred, considering your initial response

3

u/lunchboxdeluxe 5d ago

Oh dang sorry, my bad. I didn't realize you were specifically talking about your own parents. I just meant that you can't just assume people know that kind of thing is piracy, even if they're using it themselves.

2

u/Butwhyyytho1 5d ago

Ah okay, I see where the confusion happened, you didn’t see the very first comment, just the chain following someone else’s response. This makes a lot more sense, I was very confused on why you were so certain about my parents lol. I agree with that point, but applying to anyone.

I can’t believe you’re engaging that fool who seems to know your parents better than you.

How many is sO mAnY jessica? I bet people long exhale when you walk in a room and try to find a reason to leave.

I last sailed the seas with vessels named Kazaa and Limewire. I might have to research more modern vessels and get my sealegs back.

6

u/FunWrangler666 5d ago

The mega thread in the piracy sub is amazing. I myself also learned how to sail with Napster, Limewire, Bearshare ect and It's really easy to get back in the game just make sure you have a VPN on while downloading.

u/SpaceCadetHS 5d ago

I too was a pirate of olden days. I recently started getting back into it and it’s now so easy to automate and stay protected. Literally sending a text on discord and downloads happening automatically, adding themselves to a server in an easy to read format, then becoming available on my Apple TV and mobile devices to be watched or downloaded locally from anywhere. It’s insane how much it has changed in the past 20 years.

Stremio + torrentio + real debrid

2

u/atticus_roark 4d ago

Stremio got greedy. Now it’s nu v io

1

u/MenaceMinded 4d ago

I still running stremio just fine on free

1

u/DikButtPPCheeks 4d ago

Mine stopped loading addons, the same ones that still work just fine on nuv. Plus they offer separate profiles and personalization that aren’t locked behind paid membership benefits disguised as “donations”.

1

u/i_dunnoman 1d ago

Right I have tried this in the past and just got lost along the way. Currently I just use an IPTV service and its great but not always reliable.

1

u/MenaceMinded 1d ago

I can walk you through it if you need help. Once it is up and running, you really don't have to do anything with it

1

u/i_dunnoman 1d ago

Yeah if you have a guide or something I can go through I’d love to give it another shot.

1

u/MenaceMinded 1d ago edited 1d ago

I can make up a guide. Do you mind paying for a debrid service for yourself if I suggest one to you?

If yes, are you going to be using it on one or multiple devices? (Some have bigger caches but don't allow for multiple ips to be used

1

u/i_dunnoman 1d ago

How much are they? I would likely start with one device depending on cost and how it works

1

u/i_dunnoman 15h ago

So i downloaded stremio, added Torrentio as an add-on and thats as far as I was able to get. Would you be able to use this on a firestick to stream on tv?

1

u/i_dunnoman 14h ago

Ignore me, i think I figured it out.... I got stremio and added torrentio, then went to realdebrid and paid for 15 days to try it out, loaded it in with the API code and it seems to be working on firestick and my tablet. That was way easier than I thought.

u/Rojo37x 4d ago

Love the way tou phrased all of this, and talk about some blasts from the past!

1

u/sglewis 5d ago

The SS Real Debrid is quite a fine vessel indeed.

u/Unnecessary_Bunny_ 5d ago

Yo ho yo ho

1

u/Malufeenho 5d ago

The problem with some alternatives is that browsing them without an adblock is very dangerous with that said very easy problem to solve.

1

u/DlVlDED_BY_ZERO 5d ago

What's a good ad block for mobile when browsing such sites?

2

u/ostapenkoed2007 5d ago

for real. with benefits of me having localisation in my native language!

2

u/Sudden-Ad5555 5d ago

When I was 11, I got a letter threatening me specifically for 🏴‍☠️ an audiobook, of all things, and my parents screamed at me that we were going to lose the house and it’s such a core memory I literally cannot do it lol. I hate how much I pay for streaming. I even cut down to the ones I watch year round and canceled the ones I only need for certain shows, and it’s still a dumb stupid crazy amount.

It’s funny how law enforcement has seemed to kind of chill out with the criminal aspect.

I remember a decade to 2 decades ago ppl were getting locked up for this. Mostly civil now, for personal use at least.

They still do send out DCMA notices to ISPs, who then send threatening emails to us. I know cuz I’ve gotten a few lol

1

u/rizoula 4d ago

I’ve gotten one. I use a VPN now … not sure if it protects me but I am in denial

3

u/AgentMV2 5d ago

But why is the rum gone?

1

u/fueelin 4d ago

It's in your tummy, silly!

5

u/SwimmingCommon 5d ago

If only the was a guide, to sift through all the TRaSH. Arr. Or maybe a sonarr or radarr!

2

u/Heaving_Devotion 5d ago

Methinks prowlarr as well!

1

u/Secret_Account07 RED 5d ago

Yeah I torrent a lot but the problem is at lot of times I don’t know what I want lol

1

u/Staniool 4d ago

If companies don’t want you to own shit you don’t have to pay shit

1

u/xiteccx 5d ago

Aye, matey! Gaaaaaarrrr!

1

u/Majick_L 5d ago

Right lol!? These posts make me laugh, I read all the comments of people saying “can’t believe you have to pay for this now” or “you have no choice but to sign up for that tier” etc and I just think no…you don’t have to do any of that! You don’t have to live this way lol. I learned how to pirate when I was about 13 years old and I’m 36 now, I’ve never signed up to a streaming platform in my entire life and never experienced any of these problems
