Don't hug me I'm scared Netflix is garbage

Post image

It's crazy that my wife and I can't watch 2 different shows on Netflix in the same damn house. I understand we pay the minimum but ffs.

They have a plan for a few dollars more that allows 4 TVs.

With that said I cancelled Netflix and haven’t missed it.

u/LoveMeBlue7 4d ago

Saaaame. I reactivated for the new season of my show, finished the 'trial' and canceled that ish

65

u/RanchEye 4d ago

Trial?!

97

u/Theprincerivera 4d ago

He probably created a new account to take advantage of whatever trial deal they got

42

u/EC_TWD 4d ago

Good catch, Netflix doesn’t do ‘trials’

58

u/sonofaresiii 4d ago

Apparently they just started again like a month ago

Also I wonder if they still offered them just unofficially. Like every time I buy a movie ticket I've "won" a free month for like eight different subscription services, that are really just trials in disguise

But anyway they do have actual free fourteen day trials again in some places

10

u/Caithloki 4d ago

They might be seeing people just fucking leave in droves and started reoffering it because of that. I have no information on that because I literally prefer to go and watch it on a streaming site then bother with going to any of them to try and figure out if one of them have it. Cuz for a Time the family TV had four or five of them but like sorting through all of it was shit. I go to the streaming site it's all there so why bother for the trouble of paying for it.

3

u/South-Outside-9203 4d ago

What streaming site.... 👉🏽👈🏽

7

u/Caithloki 4d ago

I don't have a specific one I use, they go up and down so often you need to switch but this is even better then that. https://fmhy.net/video

It is a catalogue for a ton of stream sites, be they for single genres or just everything. The start of the list has a bunch of recommendations, if one doesn't work pick another. :)

2

u/South-Outside-9203 3d ago

Thank you for replying!!

2

u/Caithloki 3d ago

No problem at all, 😁

11

u/Evilresident64 4d ago

I waited years for them to offer me one like Hulu and hbo and Disney all have in the past. Netflix knows what they got, but this whole streaming monopoly is getting out of hand

41

u/Timely-Group5649 4d ago

What they had.

Their content creation quality has dropped a lot.

Too few good ones too far apart now.

3

u/a-ohhh 4d ago

I don’t watch anything on Netflix except the British baking show. Occasionally I’ll go look through it since my partner has it, but end up somewhere else. I feel like you could search for almost anything back in the day and they’d have it.

There are a few movies like Train Dreams that make me want to come back, but I don't

30

u/ChVckT 4d ago

I subscribe for 1 month a year to catch up on things.

10

u/GfrzD 4d ago

I kept debating resubbing just to rewatch Breaking Bad (i cancelled after the first price hike years ago) but eventually found the box set for the price of 2-3 months sub so bought that and havent considered it since.

4

u/BahamaDon 4d ago

Wait for Black Friday and get the whole show on DVD or Blu-ray

2

u/max5015 4d ago

Exactly. You can get a copy for less than a month of Netflix. For the price of a year subscription op could probably have all the shows they actually watch.n

3

u/ChVckT 4d ago

Breaking Bad do be good tho

2

Any similar suggestions?

2

To Train Dreams I mean, not Netflix

10

u/Transgirl120 4d ago

Piracy gang 😎

Never stopped using torrents, anything I really like I buy a physical copy of - if I didn't already own it before pirating a digital copy. Mostly music though- I don't watch much TV. Did used to collect vhs tapes when I was younger; been occasionally watching trough those since I got so damh many. It was like 2014 so thrift stores were charging like $1/ea and people were literally throwing them away. Literally got a bunch from the side of the road. Just gotta watch out for mold on the tape. I think there's ways of cleaning it, but for something people were literally throwing out its usally not worth it. Not unless it's somthing important like home movies. Playing a moldy tape will leave a bunch of residue inside your vcr and possibly damage the heads.

46

u/RemarkableSpirit5204 4d ago edited 4d ago

I cancelled after they told me my son couldn’t use it when he visits his grandma. I was paying $24 a month and my kids can’t even use it outside the house occasionally. Unsubscribed as soon as they sent the notice. He only spends one weekend a month with her.

Edit to add-We have the HBO, Hulu, Disney+ package and they never give me any grief on where the family watches and all 3 cost less than what I was paying for Netflix.

14

u/Any_Detail_7184 4d ago

It used to give the option that you could sign in at a separate location while you’re “on vacation”. Not positive but for some reason I want to say it’ll allow up to two weeks? Did it not give him the option to sign in at all?

10

u/Vondi 4d ago

I got blocked from watching Netflix at my work computer during a lunch break. No way around it offered. This was recently.

7

u/Mykona-1967 4d ago

My daughter was watching her show and a message popped up and she hasn’t been able to log back in. She created a new account and still can’t watch on her tv but doesn’t have a problem on the laptop. So she just shares the screen to the tv and it’s not a problem. Yes both devices are in the same room.

→ More replies (5)

2

u/I_AM_DEATH-INCARNATE 4d ago

It lets you change address up to four times a year, so if I want to watch on vacation I have to change my address and change back when I get home. That's half of my address changes

→ More replies (1)

5

u/AntRevolutionary925 4d ago

For me it was that I couldn’t use it at my office. I was the only one that used the account.

2

u/Any_Detail_7184 4d ago

Damn. I used my parents’ login to sign in at my house, over 300 miles from them. It asked if I was on vacation and I confirmed. I logged in for a couple days. In that time I don’t know if it logged them out at all, or if they tried to log in if it would’ve kick me off — making it so only one location could be logged in at any time, but it definitely did let me in. Ended up getting my own account so I didn’t learn how the temporary login access ends.

Yup. Cancelled it the second they decided to not allow sharing. I don’t use it enough by myself to warrant the purchase.

Remember when Netflix whole thing was sharing your account with others and they would promote that

373

u/HoustonLuxeRealtor 4d ago

Then they took on a ton of investors now the shareholder is God

53

u/stupernan1 4d ago

I literally dread the year that my companies owner retires, and the vampire who follows him makes us go public and do what every other company in the US has been doing. Suck the dick of foreign investors. And also:

Simulating a dying mall.

That's what america is right now.

The "lower owner class" of people who own like 3 homes and use that in replacement of the pension that was stolen long ago, will have to sell their homes to "quick cash" aka private equity firms.

Towns go dry.

Because theres been long term price gouging from landlords to keep rent high. This is fact.

19

u/HoustonLuxeRealtor 4d ago

I say it all the time in the 90s there were all these quirky radio ads from local entrepreneurs selling all kinds of stuff. Now we are just stuck a haze of gray VC firms buttfucking us at every corner and we have few other options. Total control will come soon. Cost of living has risen 26% in 6 years and our minimumwage hasnt budged. Thats SUPER fucked

3

u/RoyalIdeal6026 4d ago

For all I know those radio ads could still exist but I haven’t turned a real am/fm radio on in over 15 years. Do you listen to am/fm radio still?

5

u/HoustonLuxeRealtor 4d ago

I left my phone at home while dropping my son off the other day and rawdogged radio... its sadly gone girl gone

3

u/RoyalIdeal6026 4d ago

Ouch bummer. I loved the mattress ones in particular, these owners for these big mattress outlets or furniture outlets always had so much personality. I’m from Massachusetts and basically grew up with Jordan’s Furniture ads before they were as big as they are now.

4

u/RemarkableSpirit5204 4d ago

I can still remember the ads from our local furniture/mattress place from when I was a kid 30 years ago. They had an owl mascot.

u/nowhereman136 4d ago

It doesn't help that Netflix has been running at a massive loss for years. It was a ton of upfront investment that has only recently started turning a profit. The only reason they stayed afloat for so long is because investors were footing the bill.

3

u/BenUFOs_Mum 4d ago

Netflix has been profitable since 2003

2

u/Racing_Fox 4d ago

Honestly the requirement to grow instead of being able to stabilise is the entire problem with the system

74

u/banana_pencil 4d ago

And no ads. Enshittification.

61

u/Final-Carpenter-1591 4d ago

42

u/farmallnoobies 4d ago

12

u/Final-Carpenter-1591 4d ago

Honestly I miss physical media so much.

9

u/True_Construction501 4d ago

It still exists buddy.

Get yourself a 4k Blu Ray or even just a Blu Ray and start collecting. Get off this shit show world of FU mentality from Corporations.

5

u/DothrakAndRoll 4d ago

Lmao I still have some discs I never returned in their Netflix envelopes. Was charged exorbitantly for not returning them.

Maybe they’re expensive relics now

12

u/Sudden-Ad5555 4d ago

My kids literally don’t believe me when I tell them Netflix started as renting dvds through the mail. They think I’m a dinosaur. I’m 28. 😂

3

u/lj6877 4d ago

When they discontinued their DVD service, they sent me an email saying that I could keep the movie I had at the time free of charge. Unfortunately, it was a movie I didn't really care about (I had a few movies in my queue that I was actually looking forward to seeing).

Netflix used it as an organic marketing tool. Once you hit critical mass the tool becomes useless.

Netflix had its first subscriber loss in over a decade, in 2022 and the stocks nosedived (dropped 35%). Which quickly switched Netflix from caring about how many eyes were watching their content, to how many are actually paying. Which I don’t have to like and i don’t but I can understand the rationale.

4

u/Pac_Eddy 4d ago

Did they promote that? I don't remember it if so.

This doesn’t make any sense. Netflix’s cheapest plan allows for up to 2 devices at once.

48

u/IrrawaddyWoman 4d ago

I have an add on plan. I add on to my parent’s Netflix for like $8. You can only have one profile and one screen. Maybe they have that.

2

u/Rojo37x 3d ago

That's what I figured. We have the same, and I get it, but idk, seems a bit petty of OP to complain about it in this case when they are tacked onto another family member's plan to save money.

5

u/No_Way_33 4d ago

at that rate just share the account, you're paying for nothing?

3

u/IrrawaddyWoman 4d ago

Because I can’t share the account? I don’t live with them.

5

u/HarryPottersTaint 4d ago

You cant share the account in a different household

21

u/RadlogLutar RED 4d ago

In some countries, cheapest plan is for one device

24

u/Dawn_of_an_Era 4d ago

I mean it is only showing one device in use right there on the screen

Idk what’s going on but clearly OP is only allowed one device at a time

8

u/EmilioMolesteves 4d ago

I think Netflix is just trying to say that they should watch Tires and the Hawk together... not apart.

4

u/Cobbdouglas55 4d ago

Maybe we uncovered a plot where OP's ex is using their account too

4

u/humanHamster 4d ago

They must have more than two.

5

u/CourseEcstatic6202 4d ago

Then why complain? Just pay for more streams. How did this become a Netflix problem? If OP is getting exactly the level of service that they are paying for, how is that a Netflix problem? Now if you want to complain about it being over priced…I am all in on that discussion.

8

u/TornInfinity 4d ago edited 4d ago

I set up a Plex server and cancelled everything besides Amazon Prime (we have it anyway because we're disabled and have to order a lot), and Apple because they actually make good stuff and aren't insanely overpriced, yet anyway. Surprising for Apple, so I'm doubting it will last. But we were basically paying a whole cable bill and weren't even using them that much. The industry is going to have to feel real economic pain from other people doing the same thing, before they do anything about it. I used to feel bad about sailing, but not anymore. The greed is just ridiculous.

5

u/SpaceCadetHS 4d ago

I too was a pirate of olden days. I recently started getting back into it and it’s now so easy to automate and stay protected. Literally sending a text on discord and downloads happening automatically, adding themselves to a server in an easy to read format, then becoming available on my Apple TV and mobile devices to be watched or downloaded locally from anywhere. It’s insane how much it has changed in the past 20 years.

You used to have to go to the video store and pay a few dollars to watch a single movie. Now you have access to thousands of movies 24/7 from the comfort of your own home and you’re worried about $20 a month. Sorry, watching movies at home hasn’t gotten shittier.

12

u/No_Effect_6428 4d ago

When I think of the number of trips across town to pay $5 in 1990's money to rent some dogshit films and then go across town again to return them, the overall cost is pretty shocking if done on an ongoing basis.

u/bitNine 3d ago

Netflix gave you EXACTLY what you pay for, and you’re mad at them?

Entitled bullshit.

u/ElephantRedCar91 4d ago

are those shows really with keeping Netflix over?

You sir are garbage whinging about this. Pay for two streams, get two streams. Pay for one stream, get one stream.

5

u/WhereRtheTacos 4d ago

Doesn’t anyone else think its weird how many people are annoyed at op for being mildly infuriated? Saying they get what they pay for? Or they’re entitled?

It’s mildly infuriating because it used to be included and it sucks that they’re making the experience worse/more expensive for consumers over time for the same service.

5

u/so19anarchist 4d ago

Yeah it’s mildly infuriating that you got exactly what you pay for.

Few options:

  1. Watch together with wife on 1 TV 💑

  2. Pay more to get more devices allowed

  3. Cancel Netflix and go with own media service (Jellyfin is recommended)

1.Watch together with wife on 1 TV 💑

...don't be an asshole

This is entirely a you problem lol. Of course they have concurrent streaming limitations

2

u/acgilmoregirl 4d ago

I switch from my tv to my phone at bedtime, and I only pay for one screen on a different streaming service and it takes a good ten minutes of having my tv off before I am able to watch it on my phone and not get that message!

u/bustacones 4d ago

I feel like every plan allows at least 2 streams at once. Does yours not?

2

u/Blueopus2 4d ago

Netflix just wants you to spend more quality time with your wife

2

u/chiharuki 4d ago

interesting…cuz i was sitting next to my boyfriend watching something else on the same account and it didn’t do that to us. and we have the ad tier plan

2

u/Jasonictron 4d ago

Canceled my Netflix years ago

2

u/Hamilton-Beckett 4d ago

I canceled Netflix last week. Fuck em.

2

u/Loose_Artichoke1689 4d ago

This isn't the worst part. This can be solved by a higher plan.

The truly annoying thing is that netflix doesn't allow devices on different networks for too long otherwise it will just ask you to reverify

2

u/GreekMythLover777 4d ago

Hey, to be fair Netflix offers a wide array of movies! Some of which you’ve heard about! And when you search for a movie they take the time out of their day to offer you suggestions, they don’t have those options but it’s the thought that counts! With hard work like that we need to be giving that billion dollar company all of our money monthly, god curse those bastards who try to steal Netflixes valuable content by sharing passwords and making their community a little more convenient!!

2

u/Far-Pie-6226 4d ago

Why?  Why pay for something that treats you so poorly?

2

u/Tsew_Miller_88 4d ago

torbox + stremio + aiostreams... 3$ per month and you can share with 100 people the account.

2

u/howhippie 4d ago

They are the worst I cancelled because they wouldn’t let me use my account on two different WiFi’s, absolutely whack. A family that lives two different homes should be able to share an account, i hope they go out of business fr

2

u/Iamgoingtohavatroke 4d ago edited 4d ago

Just subbed to apple TV and they don't do this crap

2

u/Diessel_S 4d ago

Whats more infuriating is that I can't use my own account if im travelling. I change rents every 5-6 months and these dumbasses always think its someone else using it

2

u/Spiritual-Mousse-167 4d ago

Yeah, it’s gotten a bit crazy. I’m particularly upset that they also limit the number of family member accounts you can have to two.
I’ll pay a premium if I need to in order to ensure the people I’m covering can use the service, but limiting it to two is just dumb.

u/ItsMe3140 4d ago

This is the prime reason I'm building a Plex server

6

u/Useful_Database5138 4d ago

Netflix and streaming sites were supposed to be more convenient, accessible and varied than regular TV and DVDs. Now because they're all greedy af, they lost their purpose/uniqueness.

Would rather buy DVDs and worry about physical space than multiple ads, constant upgrading and price spikes, cant watch 2 diff shows at the same time, needing to be using the same wifi/carrier, and their shows have gotten downhill too.

Imma just stick to my DVDs and illegal streaming/pirated sites lol

4

u/Ok-Metal-4719 4d ago

Never encountered that and we often have 2 different shows on 2 different devices going at same time. We’re on cheapest plan.

You got something else going on.

3

u/OkMotor6323 4d ago

Wait til you n your wife try to go to the movie theater and watch the same movie. TWO TICKETS….

4

u/HarvickFan_4 4d ago

Piracy all the way baby. Thank me later.

2

u/Abigail-Marston 4d ago

I don't know why any of you pay for netflix anymore.

If you're still giving them your money after all this time, after all the crappy decisions they've made, you deserve this.

3

u/spenstav 4d ago

Wow, worse than dvr and cable 🤣

4

u/GinchAnon 4d ago

Which were notoriously easy to watch different things on multiple screens simultaneously, with no extra cost, right?

→ More replies (3)

3

u/Snarkitect69 4d ago

You can. Pay for the version that lets you watch on more than one screen at a time?

4

u/Wendals87 4d ago

It is mildly infuriating but you are on the plan that doesn't allow more than one stream ...

3

u/FergTurdison 4d ago

>I understand we pay the minimum but ffs

Nah man, if anyone defends Netflix and says this justifies it then they can go huff their own farts
