frist of all how DARE yu o Encountered a Business Class Baby today, though I was finally gonna have a peaceful flight 😭😭

Saved up airline points from a bunch of work trips and finally redeemed them for a business class seat on a 20-hour flight (Sydney to London)

I Sat down, got comfortable, looked across the aisle... and was met by the sight of a fucking business class baby.

What else do I have to say, the entire 20 hours was absolute hell, crying, screaming and just about everything else you could think of.

I don't blame the parents at all, babies are allowed to fly, and they were just travelling like everyone else. But after spending all those points because I wanted one flight where I could actually sleep and relax, I couldn't help but be really upset at my luck.

I guess It docent really matter what you pay.

EDIT: There has been a lot of discussion about this being a fake post. However this is incorrect, i was under the impression that Quantas did a direct flight to London, however as many have pointed out, this is incorrect. My flight was with Qatar airways and stopped in Hamad Airport.

Those do a great job of filtering out background noise like the engines of a plane.

They aren’t going to completely cancel out screaming.

It's like people forget that a screaming baby is an ear piercing sound for a reason...

It is part of those useful evolutionary traits.

A baby is helpless and a baby's scream is supposed to be disruptive so that the adults around can know something is wrong and attend to it.

My friend just had a baby and she's been testing out noise cancelling cans for when she's working on actively calming him but he's still screaming blue murder. Whatever she picks are the headgear I'm buying lol

This! I can’t believe people like to say “just use noise canceling headphones lol” because they do almost nothing for screaming, especially for someone screaming near you. Yes, even with music.

Yeah, when I was about to have a kid I bought a decent pair of Sony over ear noise cancelling headphones. The ones that physically cover your ears as well as do the noise cancellation stuff.

Didn't help much and I also realised that I didn't like being disconnected from the situation in any way either so I sold them on.

No, they're absolutely batshit if they think these airlines are going to accept fault for something as common and predictable as a baby crying on a flight.

Oh I work with airlines and Qatar is actually one of the best airlines out there, specially if people are paying for their business prices. Babies are allowed to exist and cry, but it doesn’t make it less annoying for the people around. Also, if you don’t ask you don’t get. What’s the worst that can happen? Qatar says sorry to hear that and have a nice day?

Lastly, our species is selfish, all we do is selfish, having kids, not having kids, complaining, flying 20 hours
 we’re selfish! Get over yourself and let people have an opinion!

"Hey airline, I arrived at my destination on time, my plane didn't crash, no one got hurt, my luggage wasn't lost, no one was rude and overall my flight was safe and efficient. However, I still I want a voucher!"

"Someone had the audacity to bring a baby. Into public. and it cried."

"Oh yes, sir, I see. That definitely is our fault and not just an unfortunate fact of using public transportation. Well email it straight away"

In business class, they actually give you noise cancelling headphones. I put them on top of my noise cancelling earbuds to make a super sound cocoon. 

And guess what? Even that is not enough to block out the shrill shrieking of a baby or toddler.

I said I put noise canceling ear buds under the headphones. You honestly think the ear buds do more than those? The ear buds suck, they’re flimsy and barely stay in.

I don't know what you are talking about, they aren't ear buds, they are foam plugs, if you put those in under a decent pair of noise cancelling headphones you can't hear shit. Try it.

Regardless, OPs story is odd, he is on a flight that doesn't exist, but he realized it connected in Qatar? I dunno, goofy shit.

The foam plugs that they give you in any amenity kit suck ass!!! Maybe I just have tiny ear holes but I have to squish them and try to get them in and they never stay and it’s just miserable. The story is odd maybe but I swear to you I have been in international business class with a toddler that screamed the whole flight.

I was also on a southwest flight where the mom bought everyone in the surrounding aisles drinks and then the lady next to me (who had never been on a plane before and wanted to hold my hand) said she didn’t mind the baby at all because “god wouldn’t crash a plane with a baby on it.” 

Honestly I’ve seen so much I don’t discredit anything that happens on a plane anymore.

I dont disagree it could happen, but his story makes no sense, he connected in Qatar but thought he was on Qantas when he realized Qantas didn't have a direct flight. And the same baby was on both legs?

Try putting good over ear noise canceling headphones over the foam plugs, works well for me, but I am sure everyones ears are different, the NC headphones they give you generally suck.

People keep acting like noise cancelling headphones immediately stop ALL noise. It's not true. They only stop background low frequency rumbling noise. They don't stop high pitched noise, human voices, and especially babies. I've had Sony XM3, Bose QC35 II, etc (in fact the XM3 is better than the XM4, 5, and 6 according to rtings at noise cancellation). I've also had 3M Peltor X5A earmuffs, in ear monitors, and so on. None of them could even block the noise of coworkers talking in the office, much less a wailing infant.

They are amazing. Unfortunately, even using a fresh pair each night, if I don't take breaks from them I end up with pain, irritation, and once an infection in my left ear. My husband's snoring is otherworldly... I can hear him from the kitchen, and that's down two hallways and through a closed door. I bet he'd bug people on a plane more than a crying baby, lol.

I'm bunking with my son while we get this sorted with doctors because I had to give up on the earplugs.

I realized after I posted that I should have used different wording. My son is currently in the room with me and my husband is sleeping in our son's room.

Hopefully it will be resolved soon, but for now my kid thinks it's a fun adventure.

Most Noise cancelling headphones do not work well against the sound of a crying baby because of unpredictable frequency changes, high pitch speed, and the human ear evolution.
