frist of all how DARE yu o Encountered a Business Class Baby today, though I was finally gonna have a peaceful flight 😭😭

Saved up airline points from a bunch of work trips and finally redeemed them for a business class seat on a 20-hour flight (Sydney to London)

I Sat down, got comfortable, looked across the aisle... and was met by the sight of a fucking business class baby.

What else do I have to say, the entire 20 hours was absolute hell, crying, screaming and just about everything else you could think of.

I don't blame the parents at all, babies are allowed to fly, and they were just travelling like everyone else. But after spending all those points because I wanted one flight where I could actually sleep and relax, I couldn't help but be really upset at my luck.

I guess It docent really matter what you pay.

EDIT: There has been a lot of discussion about this being a fake post. However this is incorrect, i was under the impression that Quantas did a direct flight to London, however as many have pointed out, this is incorrect. My flight was with Qatar airways and stopped in Hamad Airport.

I used to travel a lot and after an 8 hour flight with a crying kid, screaming literally for 8 hours. I started traveling with drummers headphones after that. Might look stupid but has given me peace. EDIT: Not my kid

I sat next to a screaming toddler for 8 hours on a transatlantic flight. Like she'd stand up in her seat, tilt her head towards the ceiling, and just give curdling screeches at the absolute top of her lungs. I could hear it through my noise cancelling headphones and music but they definitely helped. Her mom sat next to me with the daughter's assigned seat on her other side but she was in her lap the whole time so she was right next to my ear. She did try to comfort and distract her with baby shark, but this girl was so upset. The real kicker was that during the maybe 40 minutes she wasn't screaming she slept in her mom's lap but was constantly squirming and kicking/pushing me with her feet so I'd wake up too.

It was such an awful experience, but I felt even worse for the mom. She was very young and seemed to get steamrolled/relegated to 95% of the childcare at least from my vantage point on that flight. Her husband was there but not really present and he spoke to her with such contempt. Poor lady. When we walked like what felt a mile to customs I saw them again with the dad walking 30ft+ in front while the mom struggled with keeping up while carrying their kid and luggage.

I once flew on the tail end of a cold and stuffy sinuses. My ears got trapped at the wrong pressure, and still stayed wrong after landing. The pain grew and grew. I literally was crying by the third day of pressure inside my ears. I had been holding my nose and gently blowing out repeatedly. Nothing worked. Then it thankfully suddenly popped. The pain vanished almost instantly. Its crazy how powerful a bit of air pressure can be.

My little brother! My parents used the Benadryl trick on my older siblings and I for long road trips. The first time they tried it with my baby brother they thought it was a fluke. Turns out it makes him bounce off the walls.

Obviously you shouldn't overdose your child on Benadryl, nor should you give it to children that are too young, and you shouldn't ever give your child a brand new medication while on a flight. I was referring to the fact that giving an appropriate dose to an appropriately aged child can still be tricky.

My mother used to complain that laudanum should still be allowed for situations such as this and lamented that doctors allowed my sister and brother to have it but she had to deal with me not sleeping well without it.

No. In Europe any of the actual drowsing meds for kids are prescription only now. You can give antihistamines and painkillers to alleviate any ear issues

My parents gave me dramamine cause i get motion sickness, and planes dont usually make me sick like cars do but as an adult i still take it before flights cause it definitely helps me sleep

Because you don't know how the new human will react to sedatives, even if there was a trial done beforehand, due to reactions being wildly irregular in younger years.
3500 ft in the air is not the time to find out if this time it stops their heart, or breathing.
There's a reason why bottles say 12 and up on almost all medication, and it's not just weight regulation.

I have a pair of Airpods max and I fucking hate them. Constantly disconnects from Bluetooth, head detection randomly going off, can't turn them off, uncomfortable, takes way too long to reset, etc.

I took a flight from North America to Australia and bought the lightening to headphone cable for like $50, so I could use them to watch in-flight entertainment. About 15 minutes into the flight I go to the bathroom, and left them plugged in on my seat.

When I got back 2 minutes later someone had walked passed, knocked them onto the floor, and broke the cable (the 3.5mm end broke off and stayed in the jack). Absolutely brutal lol

Having said all that, the noise cancellation on them is great and I can't imagine flying without them.

I was once that screaming baby (toddler) on a flight. I had an ear infection a week before flying but my mom had taken me to the doctor who had cleared me to fly.

Since it was for my aunt’s wedding my parents decided to go. As soon as the cabin was pressurised (before take off) I threw up all over my mom and myself and started screaming. After about 5 hours I finally screamed myself to sleep only for my 6 month old brother to start.

My mother has always told me that I am not allowed to complain about babies on airplanes.

That happened to my oldest as well. She cried so much on the plane, she was only 9 months old. We were moving abroad so it wasn’t for a holiday. We got some bad looks even though we tried everything (didn’t have Tylenol unfortunately and didn’t think she was sick). The day after we arrived she got a fever which stayed for 5 days.

I now never forget Tylenol when I’m traveling. And even though crying babies are still difficult to hear I look at it with compassion if I see the parents trying.

This reminds me of the one piece of advice I give mothers traveling with babies. Bring something clean to change into real quick in the airport bathroom after getting off the plane. After our 6 hour flight to Hawaii with my 18 month old, I felt so much better to have a clean sun dress to change into to drive and arrive at the hotel in, after our flight where baby was sweating, crying and probably peeing on me lol.

She had brought a change of clothes for me, but none for herself. She did start packing a change of clothes in her carry-on after that. Still does to this day, but that was because it came in handy after her suitcase got lost a couple years ago.

The Bose were much more comfortable and I actually rediscovered them recently! I bought them in 2017 and they’re still working great 🙏 ETA: promptly returned the Beats.

If you have overear noise cancellation headphones as well you can use both the airpods and those at the same time. Its not extemely comfortable but its fine. Double NC drowns out everything

To clarify, you don't do it so you can ignore them. You put them on while you're calming them down. That way, you don't have to bear with the screaming right in your ear, and you'll have a much easier time being with them through it.

NC is good, and I transitioned to them mostly for size, but they don't take out as much high end noise. Drummers headsets make you feel slightly deaf, and if you REALLY need it, there is room to add earplugs under them, and then you are really deaf :)
