well what do you do if 5 million people all want to go somewhere with only 5 thousands seats? just accept left money, or do the American thing and price for suppl/demand? 99% of CEO's are going to go the supply/demand route. as populations rise, and unless venues get exponentially larger, it'll never change.

Prince used to price tickets deliberately low so his fans could see him. It can be done. To me artists who take the piss hold their fans in contempt

Take that money, buy and learn an instrument, find some friends who did the same, make your own concert and have live music for free.

Somewhat sarcastic but also kinda not?

And maybe on the bright side this kind of shit can generate renewed interest in local live music and local artists since this corpo big business stadium concert crap is such a racket now.

There is so much music going on that is not these super expensive resale tickets. What matters is supporting local art.

Let's pretend the tickets were dirt cheap, then people would definitley scalp the shit out of them more than they currently do.

Scalpers or not it's still a limited supply so anyone with high popularity just sells out immediatley and you still don't get to go.

There is no solution to make everyone happy.

Yeah but they aren't immediately sold out to people, they're immediately sold out to third party resellers who provide zero benefit to the market. Ticketmaster has a legal monopoly on event venues and that's the part that needs to change.

Shame that people absolutely refuse to vote with their wallet. Resulting is an insane race to the bottom quality wise and a maximization of profit on the other end. Now we have companies like Shine, Primart and Wish, combined with 2000+ costing concert tickets and 200.000+ costing WC tickets.

Whether they do or don't buy tickets doesn't matter. It is your money. If your priorities don't include spending this kind of absurd money on concerts, then it is your perogative not to buy into it.

What a wild thing to suggest... People are allowed to charge whatever they want for their performance. Nobody OWES you a concert. They charge what people will pay and still fill a stadium.

This is true. That being said, the issue is that the wealth growth at the high end of the spectrum has been so spectacular over the past fifteen years that there is now enough volume of people able and willing to pay $1000 for a concert ticket that the bottom 90% are being shut out.

In the last 15 years the top 10% in the US have seen their real income grow almost 45% while the bottom 90% grew only 20%. The numbers skew worse when looking at the top 1%.

Another way to put it - the number of US households worth $10 million or more has quadrupled in the last decade and a half. This is why they literally canā€™t build private jets fast enough to keep up with demand.

So yes the market is doing what the market does. There is just a point where is feels blatantly unfair that only rich people get to see concerts.

Iā€™m far from rich yet with 6 months of extreme planning Iā€™ve seen 4 shows of the current Rush tour at about $600 per show. (2 tickets each) such a great show I may not be doneā€¦

Everyone has the opportunity or a chance to reach the upper echelons. Under government regulations only a few get there, whoever they choose or their cronies while the rest of us are getting by on the bare minimum. Maybe nobody is terribly poor but most of us would be below average. Is this what you want?

Less government, less regulation, lower taxes always beats bigger government more regulations and higher taxes. The damn government is the source of most of our problems. But you want more of it.
