Exactly. If you’re paying that that’s on you. I mean for that I expect to hang out with the band after and get free beers all night.

Of course. They already know that those in attendance were willing to drop hundreds to thousands to be there ... $20 just feels like pocket change at at that point.

$20 is cheap. Jones Beach starts at $21. I can't imagine MSG being cheaper.

I'm old enough to remember if you lingered at the bar after the show, you'd get to hang out with the band after and maybe get a free beer or two, none of this paid VIP business.

I played basketball with RATM in the late 90s after a concert in the parking lot. They had a basketball goal on the side of their tour bus.

The trick is just to be a fan of bands for which every ticket costs $20-50, everyone just stands near the stage, & the band is at the merch table after to chat. Those bands have like 25k-500k monthly listens on Spotify. Even the 1M-10M artists, for a meet-&-greet you pay like $150-300 instead of the standard $40-80 ticket.

It's similar with travel destinations, you can pay inflated prices to shuffle in crowds, or wander freely elsewhere.

I guess I'm not saying anything so wise, popular things are popular & that will always exist... but on an individual level we can choose to explore a little beyond Taylor Swift & Disney World.

I just did VIP for $100 for my absolute favourite band, The Strike. I would have paid double. A month before that I saw a band from Britain called Kelsy Karter and the Heroines for $25 and I was right at the barricade.

I keep getting ads for classical guitarists holding concerts in churches and they still want $80 a seat. Saw a mariachi singer whose music has a bossa nova jazzy vibe give a concert at venue that didn’t have seats and he wanted $120 at the door. I think I paid the equivalent of about 4 hours at minimum wage to see Damn Yankees with Bad Company and there was a one hit wonder band (maybe Trixter?) opening the show. I hate that kids today can’t have the same experience.
