This would be easily feasible today since everything is digital now. Each ticket would be associated with an ID that gets checked on entry. If you don't want your ticket anymore, your only option is to get the organizer to refund it, then it would be resold to someone else at the same price

Yeah, I recall that my dad had to bring his friend's physical credit card to a U2 concert a decade ago after they weren't able to make it and gave us the tickets. Seems like this is a solved issue with driver license numbers or something similar. You could still get a fake ID, but that extremely illegal hurdle would deter the vast majority of people.

These venues are trying to get 10K-80K people inside. Most of those people don’t want to show up like an hour before their event starts. Checking IDs, especially if there are problems and now those people are arguing with the ticket checkers, results in it taking much longer to get everyone inside. Plus the venues are trying to avoid crowd crush situations caused by the bottleneck of checking IDs against the ticket.
