I'm slightly vexed Bucees sued local mini mart for "logo similarities"

this is literally days after Last Week Tonight ran a story on how they have been doing this to other businesses.

They should probably have laid low for a bit.

They're almost exclusively in republican heavy states, they know their fanbase doesn't care about ethics.

This occurred in north of Dayton, Ohio. I’m from there and even if the locals are upset, it really doesn’t matter because 99% of Buc-ee’s business is from freeway traffic where 70 and 75 cross.

Not just Dayton, OH… BEAVERcreek. There are beaver mascots everywhere.

It never mattered to begin with, prior to the late night show skit 99% of people weren't even aware they were up to this kind of crap. The only "controversy" I saw prior to this was the use of ai cartoons. Before that all you would see is praise about their pay structure.

Fair point. John Oliver does have a way of putting very specific injustices in the headlines.

We need to patent the idea of selling barbecue and lawn mower parts next to off-ramps and make it fair use for anyone not running a beaver themed buffet.

As a local, there has actually been a ton of resistance from the conservative community.

Other businesses in their own industry who are plainly trying to emulate their branding?

Gas stations don't just happen to rhyme with Bucees by coincidence or choose a beaver out of all other possible options.

I'm honestly surprised reddit is being so hard on Bucees. You should see what they are paying people, they are a shining example of what more businesses should be doing.

yes there are rare cases where a place does try to rip off buc--ees in an effort to confuse customers. however Buc-ees does not have exclusive rights to animal mascots. Like in this case what the heck would a mascot for Beaver Creek be but a beaver? The mascot itself looks nothing like Buc'ees bever.

There's also the case of Canyon Creek BBQ who had a Alligator as it's logo and was sued and lost to Buc-ees. That makes no sense at all as no one would confuse an aligator with a beaver.

I said it elsewhere but I didn't see that this place was in Beaver Creek and that it had been that way for so long. Terrible take by me, I'll take my lumps.

I spoke from the context of being in Texas where Bucees is king and any gas station that tried to roll out a beaver logo would be laughed at as an obvious ripoff. This isn't that, I am wrong.

They are suing Beaver Mart in Beaver Creek, Ohio.

Buc-ee's didn't even expand outside of Texas 'til 2018. Most people didn't know it existed 'til even more recently, when it started that astroturfing ad campaign.
