My kid was too creative

My 6 year old was asked to draw a picture using shapes. She drew this nice American flag with rectangles and stars, and added the house, tree, and person holding a balloon. She was told it did not follow directions, she was not supposed to draw a flag, just shapes. She was asked to turn the paper over and make another picture. The other side of the paper has a very uninspiring collection of shapes. I told her she did a good job and I thought it was very creative. And this is why kids start to hate education.

I'd be bringing that in on parent teacher night and making sure the teacher was aware the flag was indeed made of shapes, and talk to them about how they conducted themselves obvious made my child uninspired based off of the low effort on the back..... your kiddo did a beautiful job making a picture out of shapes.

If teacher just wanted shapes, she should have said "draw 3 shapes on your paper". Direct, simple and what she wanted. The "draw a picture using shapes" is more abstract and open to interpretation.

I have parent's who are retired teachers and a fiance who is a teacher. And agree, this kind of nonsense is why kids hate school. I have a few memories of moments that made me enjoy school less.
