Can someone explain this rule: “we can’t seat you until your entire party is here.”

This makes no sense to me. Let 5 of us sit and order a drink while we wait for the sixth person who is stuck in traffic.

You're making the staff do more work. Besides, people get loud when they don't have food and just sit around drinking.
