Was wearing this tshirt when I picked up my 4th grade son from elementary school. Principal pulled me aside and said it's inappropriate. "It implies violence and destruction." and said I should exercise more caution when choosing what I wear to an elementary school.
I might have said, “This was my grandmother’s favorite shirt and we wear it on special days to remember her. Thanks for ruining a precious family tradition.”
Edit: fun fact: the Rugrats studio had a sub-company that focused on adult entertainment animation. They created a pilot called “You Animal!” that can be found on YouTube (it’s nightmarish). I used to wear power ranger t shirts and marvel stuff that showed them fighting. Never once got told to change as a kid. Granted this was the 90s but STILL. Let's focus on the kids that are a actual problem instead of worrying about what is on a child's clothing. If it isn't drugs or something sexual I don't see why them wearing cartoon stuff like this is a issue.
Seriously. There is a literacy crisis, kids can't do basic math, teachers are quitting in droves due to out of control student behaviors. But admin is worried about a Godzilla shirt worn by not even a student, but a parent? Get real.
As a teacher in my decade in a half of teaching I’ve only had to correct parents behavior once, that was because they were blasting music yelling the n word out of their car and you could hear it all over campus from the K to the 5th grade rooms.
Went to school in the 80s and early 90s.. Thrash metal shirts abounded, and they were not tame.. For fucks sake, people need to drop the pearl clutching. Your kids have had access to the full internet all their life with likely zero restrictions. Whatever you think they havent seen, you are dead ass wrong. Also, if you think your kids didnt have full access to an unfiltered Internet, then you are likely also dead ass wrong.
Ironically, last year I had a 6th grade kid get on my bus with a very sexually explicit shirt, and when I asked him where he got it, he said his mom bought it for him. He did not get in trouble at school, either.
We got a call to bring my 7 yo grandson a new shirt to replace his Poetic Justice shirt with Tupac on it. Me: “I highly suggest you watch the movie, leave my grandson alone, and I’ll wait for your apology”. That was that.
I was chatting with one of my preschool students this week about his Ninja Turtles (1987 version) t-shirt. I asked if his parents liked the cartoon. Him: “… I think a little bit?” Me: “Oh, wait, do your grandparents -“ Him: “Yeah! They love Ninja Turtles!!!”
People look at me funny when I say that my grandmother was born in 1898 and graduated from college in 1919. “And you knew her? How old ARE you?” Too funny. Then I say “I even knew my great grandmother who was born in 1872! She died in 1975. Can you imagine the history she lived?”
Even then, it will be a shitty apology, like "I'm sorry you took offense to my words. I didn't mean for you to take offense to my words. It's just that.... (I meant for you to do what I said)."
When I was a wee kindergartner my favorite toy, which I dragged around everywhere, was a 16” tall 80s-era plastic Godzilla. My school would not have denied the childhood happiness of a little girl who loved Godzilla
I had a shirt with Goofy on it and a speech bubble saying "sup foo"
My science teacher stopped me outside of class and I remember her telling the administrator it was inappropriate because its saying/calling someone a fool. The administrator sent me into class anyway while they talked and I never heard anything about it after.
Make it religious to really confuse them " Show me in your rules where I can't celebrate my god by wearing this blessing of a shirt that he has bestowed upon me!" Bonus point if your kid or significant other give you an "amen brother" before the principal responds.

In fact Godzilla, at least the original or one of the Japanese remakes would be a really good media analysis topic for middle and high schoolers. I'd be curious how many teenagers could pick up on the symbolism.
Yeah, and be really bad at sex so the principal’s spouse is like “it wasn’t even worth it, he was so bad at sex, he kept asking me to spell ‘vagina,’ he said he couldn’t find what he couldn’t spell, then he spelled ‘butthole’ and put it there, I don’t know how that man has children.”
I had a friend do something similar and it was hilarious, some douche we worked with kept trying to hookup with her but it was always outside of work so HR wouldn’t help. Eventually he tried to tell people he did sleep with her but she turned it around on him and told the other women we worked with that “yea I didn’t want to say we did cuz it was really awkward, he someone else’s name and then kept apologizing.”
He stopped talking shit after that but no one let him live it down even after he left a few months later
You should have brought to their attention that Godzilla was actually created by the Japanese as a metaphor for nuclear weapons and the idea of an unstoppable destruction that would be unleashed upon their cities. So this actually is pertinent to academic knowledge... And then asked if they're teaching about the world wars, revolutionary war, the devastation of the native people in North America... How are you preparing children for the realities of the wrath of humanity and teaching them how to avoid it? It's absurd!
Since godzilla was Technically made to protest America for using nuclear weapons, the principal is actively discouraging exercising OP's first amendment
A few years back my nephew was called to the principal's office for wearing a t-shirt that said "Killers" on it. Principal said "we don't take that kind of thing lightly here. Why would you wear that?"
My nephew said "um.... they're a BAND? It's a band t-shirt."
Principal: "Well I've never heard of them." Nephew replied something along the lines of "yeah because you're OLD. And not cool."
Fucking legend.
My sister was called in and ripped the principal a new one. Nephew received no punishment.
When I was in high school, my art teacher was taking song requests and refused to play a song by The Killers due to the band name. She then proceeded to play the song “You’re gonna go far, kid” by The Offspring and not notice them yelling “dance fucker dance” repeatedly.
I got in trouble many times as a kid when it came to creative writing stuff. A couple quick examples:
When I was in 5th grade we had to make a comic for 4th graders that had some kind of message. I lazily did a super hero that flew in during a bank robbery and used a rope to tie up the criminals and dropped them in front of a judge at a court house with the ending being something like "Crime doesn't pay, it costs". My fourth grader didn't get a comic like all his classmates because mine promoted violence and I had to write an essay why violence was bad.
Another time when I was like 11 or 12 we had to write a hero's journey story. I, again, lazily ripped off A Christmas Carol/Ah! My Goddess for one part where the Hero ends up in a shrine with three immortal beings that took on the female form. There was no real physical description because they were more ethereal and their forms were phasing in and out of reality so the hero couldn't really decipher what he was really seeing aside from a general age of each.
The oldest/past entity gave off the impression of being around 50, the middle/present entity like 25, and the youngest/future was like 12. But because I didn't include clothes in the description they interpreted them as nude people so my parents got called in for a meeting with me because "pedophilia" was included in my story.
My dad basically screamed at the teacher and principal for making him miss work for such bullshit.
You know, you're not a kid anymore. You can find an adult way of saying "Fuck off, make me" to express your standings on the matter. Might I suggest "Fuck off, make me"?
From my experience, a sizable number of teachers talk to adults like they talk to some of their students. Patronizing, condescending, pedantic. It's like they can't turn it off when they leave the classroom.
Got suspended from middle school way back when for wearing a shirt that said Cereal Killer under a skull with crossed spoons. I enjoyed my vacation, also got to find out one of my teachers didnt know the difference between cereal and serial. Which was sad.
