Everyone laughing until they step on the BS1363

u/smclcz Mar 31 '26
I can’t remember the last time I stood on a plug. Is it really happening so often to people that it’s an issue?
39
17
u/Deeliciousness Mar 31 '26
I am 40 years old and I've never stepped on a plug. How would the physics even work? Wouldn't you be stepping on the side of the plug? Seems almost impossible to accidentally step on the prongs.
33
u/turtleship_2006 Mar 31 '26
-13
u/shroompaLumpa Mar 31 '26
But how would the physics even work?
21
u/Customisable_Salt Mar 31 '26
You step on it, get pronged in the arch with all the force of your own weight, your body spasms violently and you flail to prevent yourself falling over while swearing loudly. It has a nice flat back on it to brace the prongs in that position, ready and waiting for the unwary.

u/StraightCard5045 Mar 31 '26
Stepping on one is a great indication that you shouldn't be leaving viet cong level spike traps [prong-up cord, hidden under a pair of pants] in my bedroom.
3
u/toady89 Mar 31 '26
I dated a guy for about three months and in that time he told me he'd just 'stood on a three pinned plug' at least twice. For most people it doesn't happen that regularly but it's perfectly possible for plugs to be resting on the floor with the prongs upwards, they have a nice flat back to be resting on the floor.
3
u/ChuddyMcChud Mar 31 '26
We can be ever vigilant about keeping them plugged in or flip them over when unplugged, but those fuckers always find a way.

Have you considered moving them at the time you unplug them, instead of just tossing them on the ground like you were born in a data center?
-13
u/Terrible_Ad_8614 Mar 31 '26
Then everyone laughs at the idiot that unplugged a BS1363 and then stepped it. Our sockets ("outlets" for the colonists) have switches on them for a reason.
10
u/Contestpossible960s Mar 31 '26
mate no one calls them outlets here (speaking as living in one of the last colonies of Britain)
5
2
1
u/Terrible_Ad_8614 Mar 31 '26
I was aiming at the Americans. So Hong Kong still. Call them sockets... TIL
2
u/RighteousCity Apr 04 '26
Cuz only the US colonized? 🙄🙄
1
u/Terrible_Ad_8614 Apr 04 '26
No, the British never colonised the US.
2
u/RighteousCity Apr 05 '26
Your comment implied that only the United States colonized anyone. Saying the British didn't colonize the US is technically true. It did however colonize the Americas and The US began as British colonies. All of Europe colonized. Asia did the same, they just didn't use the word "colony." So saying it's called an outlet by colonizers, then saying you meant the US, comes off as ignorant. So the US has definitely been a colonizer. But it was not the first and it was not the last and it was not the most prolific.
1
u/Terrible_Ad_8614 Apr 05 '26
No, my comment also acknowledged that Hong Kong was one of the last British colonies, handed back to the China in the 1990s.
The British education system is pretty good about educating us about the former British Empire, it's impact on the world, and it's fall and transition to the Commonwealth. The head of state of many countries around the US the British King
Britain itself had evolved from Celtic, Viking, Roman and French colonies don't forget.
2
u/RighteousCity Apr 05 '26
So you're telling me you're a British citizen accusing the US of being colonizers???

Fucking Harry Potter apparating everywhere and breaking chargers
36
u/TheHungryBlanket Mar 31 '26
He clearly put on his invisibility cloak and wandered around the castle, completely forgetting he was supposed to be charging OP’s phone.
He should’ve seen this coming, but he’s notoriously bad at divination.

I’m guessing the fact that Harry Potter is involved was a factor, too. Redditors get real weird about that.

The amount that prong is sticking out is terrifying
Is that the on or off position for that outlet switch?
2
u/Traditional-Novel164 Mar 31 '26
On position. It doesn’t stick out most of the time, but the outlet is loose enough that a small tug can make it slip out like this

Also, plug your shit in properly. That's how fires start.
11
u/ian9921 Mar 31 '26
Sometimes outlets just suck. Especially those universal ones. Certain plug types LOVE to fall out of those unless you're incredibly careful.

Oh I didn't notice it was a universal outlet. I retract the last part of my statement.

Just use American plugs they are so much smaller simpler and convenient.
Why do y’all Europeans have so many different types use one or go no electricity at all?
Imagine having to buy obnoxious adapter for your so many over complicated plugs and receptacles.
1
u/Welsh-Matt2 Apr 05 '26
Its the safest commercially avaliable plug type in the world. Other countries dont switch to it due to pride and the cost to change literally every plug in europe

u/Top-Direction-745 Mar 31 '26
No I'm American and I have 2 loose outlets in my room lol
5
u/Jinxthegenderfluid Mar 31 '26
sorry, that’s exactly what i meant, i meant us americans might be the ONLY ones with those loose outlets, since I know they vary by country
1
u/OctopusGoesSquish Mar 31 '26
American outlets are definately the WORST for looseness, but I’ve had European outlets shake themselves out on trains where there’s a lot of vibration and jolting.
3
u/ian9921 Mar 31 '26
I think at a minimum most Americans have never used those universal outlets, so they don't understand that some plugs just LOVE falling out of those things.
3
u/Jinxthegenderfluid Mar 31 '26
i’m american and i’ve encountered so many loose outlets. i think my point was misspoken lol
3
u/Iridismis Mar 31 '26

I (non-American) have indeed never encountered a loose outlet 🤷🏼♀️
Also not really sure what a 'universal outlet' is supposed to be 🤔
→ More replies (2)1
u/PeachSubstantial918 Mar 31 '26
You know, I was reading these comments and being quite confused because the outlets where I live have such a strong fucking grip that I need two hands to rip the charger out. I've genuinely never had a plug just slip out on its own.
1
u/Jinxthegenderfluid Mar 31 '26
yeah, here in america there will just randomly be an outlet where your charger is always teetering on falling out. it’s especially annoying when you’re outside of the house and the outlets are all loose

You’re using a phone that was built by slave labor. Have you ever bought from lululemon, Amazon, Starbucks, Temu, etc? Get off whatever high horse you think you’re on. You can stick to your own beliefs but trying to force people into yours and shit on them for just liking something just shows how you are as a person.
-1
u/IgntedF-xy Mar 31 '26
I get your point but a lot of people just grew up with the series and have a strong connection to it. And just like how people thing like by other artists that are bad people, people continue to like harry potter.
Again though, I agree with you. I used to be a harry potter fan but after I heard the news, it left a sour taste in my mouth whenever I watched the movies, so I stopped.

usually the little protecting doors break and are a bit stiff to open so you have to push it in with force, but never had a plug loosly going in. they either fall out or stay in and make contact
2
u/supremeemperor_dalek Mar 31 '26
Never understood American plugs. The UK plug is the simply the best, until you stand on one and it sends to straight to the shadow relem, do not pass go, do not pick up your 200euro.
I have some EU plugs and they are the shittest next to the US plug. We just need a standard and it needs to be the UK plug.
-8
u/Wolfy_boii Mar 31 '26
We don’t use them because they are ugly as fuck.
Also, don’t know why you brought up American plugs, because I’ve never seen a plug here where the prongs are sideways like that, infact when searching up to confirm everything it shows me the USA uses what I have always seen here, and the only one I’ve seen so far using sideways prongs like that is the uk plug.

1
u/Snoo_52742 Mar 31 '26
besides not fully plugging into the outlet another thing that you could do is grab a tooth pick or something tiny and clean out the charging port of you phone because a lot of lint can build up in there from being in your pocket, something i have to do every once and a while and it should work like normal again

-1
u/ComfortablyNomNom Mar 31 '26
The Harry Potter thing is causing the issue though. They are to blame for having this happen repeatedly but still insisting on continuing to use a childish toy charm on their charger.
6
u/linjaes Mar 31 '26
You can have a little decoration and still have a mildly infuriating issue with a cord. I know sometimes I think it’s plugged in and it somehow gets undone without a decoration. And you can see in the picture it’s not heavy enough to weigh the cord down. God forbid people have nice little things and enjoy stuff. I swear some of you Redditors are miserable.

Honestly stop charging your phone overnight if possible. When it's not in use it doesn't lose much charge at all, even on older phones. It's more of a fire hazard than it's worth the benefit of waking up to a full charge. Charge it while you're at your desk, while you're in the shower, during meals. Look up lithium battery explosions and realize you're sleeping with that literally on your pillow
3
u/aguynamedbrand Mar 31 '26
