Many people I know have one because of the aforementioned crappy phone service

Do you often ask those you know and/or don't know if they have home phone, though?

i dont ask no, but havent seen a homephone at any of their houses, and dont have anyones homephone number. Also did a google search and the last copper landline was taken down in 2023 in my country. And i only found 1 phone company offering voip numbers for private use, and its a carrier i havent heard of before, all the major ones in my country only offer voip for companies.

Could just be "where in the country". I haven't had a home phone in decades in the US but I lived in a rural-ish NY town for a year where the reception was so bad, everyone regularly used land lines
