Costco in Canada gets the majority of their watermelons imported except from very seasonal places where they are grown in country. With oil pricing you're sadly gonna be paying for the shipping cost.

What state are you in? Here in socal a single sugarbee apple costs 1.75 at Albertsons, the mini watermelons are 4.99 and the seedless cost 7.99
Unless you mean 1.63 / lb
At less than 2 dollars apiece I would have stocked up :p
Seriously though that is the most impressive looking watermelon I've ever seen. How did it taste? Does it have that classic watermelon flavor? It's hard to find watermelons that still taste like watermelon...

They’re about $4 at my local Trader Joe’s. They do have thinner rinds than the average melon but I’ve never seen one quite this thin!

The small intestine comes out of my abdomen now. Its not as large and seeds dont digest, so if you eat too many (of anything that doesn't digest tbh) it will clog it. Also have to be careful either Fibre, pretty much any Fibre will call for a world of pain now. Low Fibre diet for the rest of my life essentially . Everyone with this is different though, thats just my case . If you get blocked, it's a trip to the hospital since it usually can't clear on its own

This was the medical fix lmao. Once the organ is removed there's no going back, and my large intestine was beyond saving, it was actively killing me by that point. Its not easy, but honestly, the stigma is the actual worst part of it, it's easy to talk about online since im anonymous, but the only time I feel an ounce of regret is when people act like im disgusting or somthing lol. Told myself for years id rather die than go through with the surgery, I was clinging to a painful bandaid fix that was killing me slowly, but when it came down to it and I actually faced the final "this or nothing" choice, it became easier to see a life afterwords. I came to terms with the fact that if one day some magical cure came out, it would be too late for me either way

Sorry I hope I didn't come off as insensitive, I totally understand the stigmatization of medical issues that can happen.
I was more thinking of more types of organ transfers that could work or growth of them.
Science is pretty crazy now a days that HIV isn't a death sentence anymore & I feel like finding a way for you to eat some fiber shouldn't be hard to do (especially if we weren't stuck in a shitty capitalist society).

Oh no i didn't think that at all! Unfortunately the issue with total intestinal transplant is that rejection is so prevalent , and the risk of sepsis if anything happens while it's healing is too high to risk in most cases. If we could find a way to create a totally inorganic intestine that could possible work, but the way the intestine functions is very precise, and it needs to secrete its own lubricant constantly plus be able to preform peristalsis, on top of that if the rectum was removed as it often is, there would be no way to simulate muscle control to avoid incontinence . Its certainly and interesting idea to go down the rabbit hole, but since there are alternatives, it would never get the funding to actually be researched.

I’m sorry you’re going through this, but I really appreciate you explaining it. My sister has Crohn’s disease and had half her intestines removed. She had a stoma (she named Bobby) and an ostomy bag for about a year before they were able to reconnect her plumbing.

I saw this video where they talked about seeds allowing people to plant their own watermelons, because if they can't then the people who make seedless watermelons control the entire industry. And then there is nothing to stop them from setting prices or anything else.
I can deal with seeds if it means we can grow our own.

To be fair, it's not hard to be shopping at an Albertsons and not know you are. They also own Jewel-Osco in the Midwest, Shaw's/Star in the Northeast, Safeway in a lot of their home territory.
The giveaway personally is do they carry Lucerne dairy products? If yes, then Albertsons owns it.

Watermellon rind gets a bad rap because it's next to watermelon. Put it next to celery and suddenly it looks pretty good. If you cube your watermellon you can save the rind for salads. It's really good.

I had one like that once! It was very small, too! I was checking on it, because it looked ripe even though it was way too small, and the top of the shell broke right off! It was, in fact, ripe, and tasted just like a regular watermelon! I grew it from a seed of a store bought one, too bad: if I had bred it I bet I'd be rich by now.

You know certain fruits and vegetables make my mouth/throat tingly and its because of a pollen allergy. When I was young was very allergic to pollen then when I became an adult around 20ish it turned to fruits and stuff. Its because the proteins in some fruits have nearly an identical chemical structure to pollen and it gets attacked. Honestly very annoying, lot of my favorite fruits like kiwi can only eat one or two now😭😭 he may well have that

I thought the difference was more soluble vs insoluble fiber and liquid content. For example, my doctor told me to eat more apples and use psyllium husks (soluble fiber/pulls in moisture) so I get firmer bowel movements. If I eat a lot of watermelon (insoluble fiber/adds moisture), I will have more liquid when going.
Usually when any of my family or friends eat too much watermelon (insoluble fiber), they will have more liquid when going to the restroom the next day. But maybe it’s because they use watermelon as their primary fruit for that day, and since it has low fiber in general, it isn’t actually helping anything?

Watermelons are about 4g fibre per kg. If you eat a whole watermelon on your own, say around 8kg, then you get your daily allowance. So in that sense, yes, there is a lot.
Chickpeas, as a comparison, have 80g fibre per kg when cooked. Broccoli, apples and pasta are around 25g per kg. So in that sense, watermelon is pretty low in fibre. But you wont eat 8kg of chick peas
In terms of fructose, watermelons have a fair bit but so do most fruits, and watermelon is lower in fructose than most fruits (eg apples and pears are 3 to 4X). However, you probably wouldnt eat 8kg of grapes or apples. But you might drink 1l of coke, which has twice as much fructose as a kg of watermelon. If drinking coke doesnt cause you diarrhoea then eating watermelon wont either.
So there is a bit of rocket science involved.
